These were my first full set of irons passed down from my grandfather in 1997. I was so happy when he gave me these. I was 16 at the time and had been using a cheap half set of Northwesters for three years. I broke 100, 90, and eventually 80 with these irons.

Great clubs. I found a set of these in 2020. Played them in a tournament. I learned how to play blades on these.

Love your videos. It's weird because these look very much like the mid 1980's staff blades

Wilson Staff Fluid Feel (F-51????) was the best club when I was a teenager. I never could afford them then!!!!

Great video. I would like to see a follow-up video comparing these W/S's to your 1973 Walter Hagen W/H both form form and function.
    Just a thought. Thanks

My grandfather bought these new in 1958 and they were passed on to me. I still play them occasionally. My lowest round of 75 was using these. When I need to regroove my swing or my iron game is poor I switch back to using them.

So I have this exact set in 2-9 irons in beautiful condition. Had them at least 2 years and haven’t played them yet. Your video inspired me to play them instead of my usuals (2010 Wilson Staffs lol)

Arnold Palmer’s 1960 Wilson Staff Dynapower irons for some reason did not have the bored thru hosel with the fluid feel plug. Read that in some tournament he was playing, Arnold was looking at a fellow tour player’s clubs and Arnold loved his driver and said he had to have it. But the tour pro Joe Black said no, Arnold kept insisting but Joe kept saying no. Arnold then said let me use it this week, and Joe said o.k. Arnold drove it great that week. And kept the club because Joe was going home to take a break from the tour. Afterward Arnold calls Joe and says he has to see his driver that it is even better now, Arnold shaved off the toe of the driver, and Joe was furious he ruined his driver and Arnold drove it terrible after he shaved the toe. Joe said to Arnold now he wanted Arnold’s putter a Tommy Armour blade putter that he welded a flange onto, and Arnold had 2 with one being a back up putter. Arnold said now he couldn’t part with those putters, but Joe kept bugging Arnold and finally after the end of a tournament Arnold had Joe come to the trunk of his putter and gave him the 1960-61 Wilson Staff Dynapower irons that Arnold won 14 tournaments with including a Masters win.

ALL my golf buddies can't hit anything longer than a 7i. So distance is crucial for them. If you want to be a great ball striker, practice with an old blade. No offset, sharp leading edge, narrow sole, tiny hitting area. It'll either force you to work on the correct technique or make you realize that you'll NEVER be good at golf.

Ahhh....not sure I agree w/you that in 1960 you went to pro & he custom fit the club to you. I caddied '57 thr '61, I saw members who went to pro to buy new clubs. Often a demo club(s) were taken out to practice area for him to try (usually by an assistant pro), so they might be able to compare or just try out the model to see how it felt. Then they'd buy the set & go out to practice, practice, practice. The idea seemed less like fitting the clubs to the golfer, more like fitting the golfer to the clubs. A period of adjustment, becoming used to the excentricities of the new clubs. I don't know when the "custom fitting" craze began, but for most of us duffers - it's merely an expensive gimmic.
Only other thing, that Palmer club you mentioned that had holes drilled into the toe - don't you think it might be more likely to decrease toe weight, cuz there is always lead tape that is far easier to add weight & isn't so permanent

The Palmer clubs are easily googled and show lead plugs in the drilled holes - thus adding weight.

@@markb7857 Really, could you post link - cuz I can't find any Vintage Dyna-Power clubs...I did find Callaway's Arnies Army clubs with what looks like filled holes, but it was done at factory level...

I still play '86staff blades every round. The feel is amazing and I actually play better than game improvement. The shafts are probably too heavy for me now, but I won't change them. I've always been disappointed in game improvement irons.

I started playing golf in late 1995,, at the ripe young age of 29, lol, back then I realized certain Wilson irons had a very strong crowd. They were all Staff, rm, but none were the Pro Staff models. As I started learning about different types of clubs and some history of the game I actually associated Wilson with two old time golfers. Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead. Even Vijay Singh. At some point in the early 2000's I re-associated that brand with Padraig Harrington and still do to this day. Really like those Wilson CB'S he carries nowdays. Am I right to think that bore through hosel actually has a plastic or something plug, it's not the shaft thru hosel like what Callaway did right?
