My first proper set of irons. Saved my pocket money and birthday money to buy them in 1983, 13 at the time. They were the clubs all the top players at my club were using then. Tom Watson was and still is my favourite golf pro. Good days, great clubs 👍

I traded in my p790's and went back to 1991 Ram laser fx forged. Love em. Those Golden Rams are the softest forged I've ever hit, the feeling is indescribable

I played these for almost 15 years, the feel and performance was outstanding. I kept them in the collection when I replaced them with Armour 845s . In a moment of weakness, I sold them on EBay to reduce the number of sticks I was maintaining , I regret that decision to this day.

I have played these since the '80's. I played my first set to destruction and now working my way through my second with a third set in reserve. They are exceptional irons and despite being 40 years old, I doubt anything now is any better. I regularly switch our with other sets in my collection including Mp14's but will always come back to these. Simply stunning!

I was in high school in 1979. The Austad catalog was the only place I had ever seen Ram clubs, and I spent hours pouring through that Austad catalog drooling over the clubs. The Golden Ram were definitely among the top of line in that catalog. I used all my birthday money to buy a Ping Anser from Austad.

So glad I found this video. I bought exactly the same set as these (3-PW) in 1979 when I was 15 (Ok my dad bought them for me). Still have them today. For me one of the sweetest irons I've ever hit. Going for a bit of a refurb next week and getting loft and lie checked. They go well with my original Ping Zing putter

These clubs look great. Nice review.

These were some of the best blades out there in the day. Just fantastic blades and they had some of the coolest (and best to carry as a caddy) red and white bags. Picked up a set for $35 from goodwill just recently.

I’m so glad to have found this video. I don’t know how i missed it earlier. I have the heads for the muscle with the depression taken out. Planning to build that set and i just sold the Axial version which i also had. Gorgeous clubs and I’m so happy that you enjoy them.

Have you ever heard of Tour Model 103 brass putter? I found one in the trash, the shaft was snapped in half. I removed the shaft, cleaned it up, affixed another shaft from an olde putter I had, placed a new grip and used it recently. I like it! It’s cool looking. Some of my buddies have brass blade putters!

I had Golden Rams in the bag for a year, still got them sitting in the garage. They’re all dinged up, if they still looked brand new like yours there, I might give them another chance.

Early 90's Ram Tour Grinds are my favorite

I remember seeing used sets of Ram blades in the golf retail shops clear into the early 2000's, Tour grind, FX which I recall was a "tour cavity"...even the old staff bags,,,,
competition with Dunlop Maxfli blades, then there were the "low profile" irons around that time like Browning, even Lynx,,,,it was a short lived trend. Ram, at least in name, is around today with new bladed irons for '23, probably owned by a major chain sporting goods retailer. Macgregor as well has some new "very classic " looking forged blades, MT's.

I picked up a set of these last year, 4i-PW, oddly enough missing the 7 iron. They have a really nice feel to them.

Don’t forget Calvin Peete was on Staff for Ram back in the early/mid 80s

Very nice irons to hit! I have 3 different Tam sets, buuuut not full sets in each one. But I can make a nice 2-PW out of all 3 🤗

TGIF!!!So glad that you did this follow up video. After your review of the Golden Ram persimmon wood I started looking for the irons and here you come with the review! Sa-Weet. Now compared to my old MP-14's these are no where in my opinion as beautiful but they sure do look nice and very playable. I've never hit any Ram irons from sets but I do have the Ram Tom Watson Scoring system forged wedges 50*, 55* and 60* and they are amazing. Good stuff sir!

Muscle is similar to MP68/9. This was my "covet" iron in the 80s. I have never found a decent set in R flex. Always hoping someone ordered Rifles in a set...

mine have that same concave muscle, and say "forged," and "Axiel." got the 3 - PW in a barrel at salvation army for $1 each. they were worthless to me until i pulled the shafts and bored the hosels for parallel tip dynamic gold X 100 and 300 extra stiff tipped shafts. no built-in "bounce" on these buggers, so you gotta be dead on your business. when struck on the sweet spot it's a nice lower sounding thud that feels pure up your arms like no cavity-back iron could ever feel.

I've just got back into golf and am using my grandfather's Golden Ram clubs. I really like the look and prefer the weight to modern clubs. Just not sure it's the best beginner club!

With full faced wedges being more prevalent, I wonder when we’ll see full faced irons as well.

Just picked up two almost complete iron sets for $40. One set missing 9 iron. The only difference is the ones I got are the featherlites. Not sure how much difference there is in the weight.

Does anyone know what kind of tip size these require using graphite shafts? Parallel, Taper Tip, 350, 370??? Thank you

They have a devoted following, but I'm embarrassed to have to admit that I've never hit one, in fact I can't even remember ever having seen one in the flesh/metal, so to speak.
    They look great though!
