This is the most Toolish song from APC. It completely stands out from the rest of the album bay far. In saying that, I still think the Noose is the best song of this album followed by The Outsider.

I disagree. I think this album flows from track to track. I'm my opinion, it's the best APC album. The concept is fucking fantastic and as an opener it definitely sets it apart from Tool.

The lyrics for this whole album were written from the perspective of watching how addiction destroys friends and families. Maynard was never a drug addict himself. I know this cos I had an APC dvd with 13th step which had extra commentary on all the tracks.

I was impressed by 13th Step because I saw them live on this album every chance I got (as I did on Mer de Nom) and they slayed all day. I saw them with NIN on that album, and it made me so happy

I remember when I bought this Album (CD), peeled that clear plastic off the album, opened the CD, smelled the booklet, then popped in the disk. Press Play... This was the first song! I replayed it before listening to the rest of the album, but still proceeded to listen the Entire album start to finish. Such a great Album, it was just as good as Mer De Noms. I got this back in 2003 when it came out.

Bro’s, you state 13 step and Eat the Elephant is your favorite albums. I disagree 100%. I’m a huge huge tool, APC and Pusifer fan and not only do I believe Mer de noms is APC best album I think it’s one of the best albums ever written in hole from 1st to last songs. You guys stay away from that album for some reason and don’t give it a chance. Every track is amazing!

When Tool was on a tour with Alice in Chains back in the day I do believe this album was inspired by him witnessing Layne Stayley going down with his heroin addiction. Whole album is great. I could be wrong so don't quote me on this.

This song is about jonesing for a drug, then using people to get more. Pretending to care but you don't. The singular voice of addiction. They talk and all you care about is give me this fix. It's mine. The end is after taking the heroin (likely as in another song he talks about turning blue and pushing a dragon down the hole).the softness at the end is the addiction, satiated for a moment as it fades. The frenzied song before is the cravings making you lose control. Ive lived this. And Maynard has talked of this

Mike Patton fan here. Mondo Cane is Mike Patton and the Italian Metropole Orchestra, the material is 60s Italian theme songs. Bands that's he's in... FNM, Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Lovage, Dillinger Escape Plan, Hemophiliac, Weird Little Boy, General Patton VS. The X-ecutioners, Mondo Cane, Dead Cross, and Corpse Flower. Everyone is different and that's not including the other artists he's worked with. Also sings in... English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Italian. Try "Crack Hitler" and watch lyrics, he screams so hard it's insane, and "This Guy's In Love With You" for great full blown beautiful.

13th STEP is all about drug use, addiction & recovery......but w/ the sarcastic, metaphorical, highly intelligent lyricist that MJK is. My interpretation is THE PACKAGE is about those drug dealers that don't have many true friends due to the unconventional business practice they chose. And they tend to get bored & lonely & strike up a convo w/ a customer....& the customer doesn't wanna necessarily be friends & shoot the breeze....he just wants to get what he's there for & bounce the F up outta there w/ the quickness & go get himself high & right. And he's not listening to a word that's being said. Just nodding his head in affirmation and/or disbelief & probably occasionally responding w/ short shit like "yeah, uh huh, damn, nah, exactly, troofs, ya don't say, facts!!!, i hear ya, really? whaaaaat? crazy!!!, that's what I'm sayin'...etc." All the while thinking of a comment/response/lie that's gonna get'em outta there soon as possible. LMAO.

"Gravity" fits this "13th step" concept so well. I also thought this song was about a person lying/manipulating someone to get laid. Listen to it again as if he was talking about pussy. However, it's obvious more about drugs once I understood the album concept

No. They don't play APC at Tool concerts or vice versa. The last tour I saw them in Eugene or and they opened with this but the whole stage was shrouded in a white veil so you saw the silhouettes then that that first "give this to me...." the veil dropped. It was amazing. I'm going to see Tool in Eugene in 10 days. May have an extra ticket....13th row on the floor.

Thirteenth step was the first album I bought on my own at age 13 in 2003... I bought it with my own allowance. I watched the "weak and powerless" and "the outsider" videos on Yahoo music lol. I really loved what I heard then decided to go for it when I saw it at borders (nostalgia, am I freaking right? All the youth in my small Metro city in NC hung out there, all the sketchy hipsters would loiter en masse every Friday and Saturday night, I'm sure the establishment loved all the shoplifting). Pretty sure it was between $16-20, CDs were hella expensive but it was worth every penny as I listened to it in my portable player over and OVER, especially on the road to the beach that summer, a 5 hour drive.

    Vanishing is my mood
The serene, gentle and lost sound resonates with me
It's simple lyrically but presentation is perfect 💜🖤

Finally! It is the opener of this incredible album, that's why it was so highly requested. Definitely in my top 3 APC songs. The BASS, Maynard's lyrics and delivery, the drums....an epic song. So happy for you that you're gonna experience TOOL live, boys. You are in for an unforgettable night, I guarantee you. All the best in the New Year! 🤘🤘🍻🍻🥃🥃

An immensely powerful song in the midst of a criminally underrated album! Soooo damn good!

The cover art is actually super cool. You’ll notice the eye under the yellow slug is clear, and the other one is glossy and blood shot. Yellow is supposed to represent warmth, positivity, overall good. The slug, believe it or not, often represents the spiritual side of life and are seen as guardians and helpers. That really brings together the whole concept of this album. I’m not sure if you’ve done “feathers” yet, but that is next level APC

The Harris Twins were part of the (horrible) later years of WCW and went by the name of Creative Control as Vince Russo's muscle and also part of NWO 2000. I don't remember much of their work because I stopped watching WCW in 1999. They were basically glorified jobbers from what I remember, at least in WCW.

I guess they did win the tag titles three times though. But at that time, titles changed hands so many times it was hard to keep track of who was champion lol
