    thank you so much ! i was stuck on the problem of quixel bridge megascan material not showing up in redshift render. now i know it's because i miss the uv texture node for my grid! thank you so much!!!

    Hi Kays is Gamma Overrides still a thing? I don't see that in my Redshift like where you have it, also "Compute Tangents from UV" in Redshift Tab doesn't exist anymore. Thank you.

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might have changed in more recent versions and is probably an automatic thing now.

    Great tutorial. Is there a chance of getting one that covers the settings of redshift in Houdini? Brute force, global illumination, how to speed up renderings, etc :)

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Unfortunately I stopped using Redshift lately due to several reasons. There are some decent tutorials for optimizing Redshift settings here: th-cam.com/users/SaulEspinosavideos

    • @septic07
      @septic07 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RightBrainedTutorials thank you very much for the link. Could you tell me, why you stopped using it? Because I'm looking for a third party render engine for Houdini at the moment and I'm open for any recommendations :)

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@septic07 Without going too much into detail, my parting of ways with Redshift was due to a noticeable shift in release schedule and operations since they were acquired by Maxon a couple of years ago, as well as a struggle to overcome the Redshift "look" which in my opinion is not very realistic. There are some pros and cons to all engines for sure, but at the moment my recommendation for CPU-based engine in Houdini would be 3Delight: www.3delight.com
      On the GPU render engine side, after careful consideration, I think Octane, despite being a tad slower, blows Redshift out of the water when it comes to realism while being a hell of a lot cheaper: home.otoy.com

    Thanks for the tutorial. Found it very helpful
    Just my 2 cents on where to plug the AO map into - I'm still yet to dive deep into RS, but from my experience with other shaders, all three methods are exactly the same. They are all multipliers.
    overall_color = multiplies overall
    diffuse_weight = multiplies the diffuse (which has an overall effect)
    multiplying with the base texture = same as above, but with an extra node
    So yeah. Doesn't matter. They'll all give exactly the same result :)

    Great Video! Can you please tackle Volumes in redshift's houdini next?

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure, although I want to hold off until the upcoming update which will add 3 channels in total as opposed to the current 2 for volumes. At the moment, one can only do Density and Heat, the third channel will add Fuel which should make explosions that much more realistic.

    Nice tutorial! I was wondering. When you are working with substance and houdini should I use a Metalness-Roughness or a Specular-glosiness workflow?

    • @midphase
      @midphase 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Metal-roughness for sure. I think the Arnold render preset actually works better with Redshift than the Redshift one!

  • @Felipehez
    @Felipehez 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks man, good tutorial, although am not really convinced of using both bump and normal maps, in my opinion, the second one is clearly the best choice. I also had some trouble using the specular/reflection map, do you know where I should plug it?

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that using Normal maps is best, however is some cases it is necessary to use both in order to see some high-frequency type of surface displacement that Normal alone doesn't always achieve. But yeah, in 99% of the cases you'd probably just want to use the Normal map. As far as the Spec and Reflexion maps, they're technically not necessary when working within a PBR engine like Redshift. You're better off letting Redshift calculate physically accurate specular highlights based on the Albedo/Roughness/Metalness/IOR information of the materials.

    hi there! thanks for your amazing tutorial! sorry for the stupid question. how do you get your parameter editor to sit so neatly on the side of your node editor. i noticed it only sits so neatly when node editor is full screened, as soon as i bring in the scene view it dissapears. thanks!:)

    Thank you! great tutorial. Can you explain how to use a triplanar shader in redshift?

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As soon as Redshift for Metal comes out I'll start doing more Redshift tutorials again! But it's pretty simple, just insert a TriPlanar node between your Texture Node and the Material Node and you should be good to go. You can adjust the blending of the planes, but I found that the default settings give good results right off the bat!

    I'm trying to follow along but I can't seem to find the "gamma override" or the "compute vertex tangents from the object UV map" checkboxes in my current version of Houdini. Any help?

    • @RightBrainedTutorials
      @RightBrainedTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stopped using Redshift for several reasons, but it's possible that they got rid of the Gamma override function in more recent versions and are now doing it automatically. If that's the case, then you don't need to worry about it.

    Ok where is the Redshift OBJ menu where he has it compute normals? Houdini 17.5- I'm not getting any redshift OBJ menu like that at the object level

    • @midphase
      @midphase 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure you installed Redshift properly, the Redshift panel should automatically be added to your OBJ nodes, but if they're not there, you can also add them by clicking on the OBJParms button in the Redshift Shelf.

      I'm using a different HDRI to light the scene than the one that Quixel used. They're using a sphere while I'm mapping on a flat plane.
