      Personally I've had a 2DS since around 2016. A friend bought me the white and blue one that came with Mario Kart 7. Problem is, I never really had money to buy games for it. I don't have all that much money as it is, and I was trying to buy games here and there on sale on my Xbox since I was sharing games with my brother.
      I ONLY just NOW (as in like 2 days ago) got into playing my 2DS. I ended up just throwing custom firmware on it and...um...questionably obtaining games. Still can't afford games, but at least my 2DS isn't just sitting in a box anymore. I have a whole list of games to play. Been playing a ton of Animal Crossing New Leaf, Mario stuff, and Pokemon. But I know there's quite a few games that are good, that I probably don't know about.
      To add one of my own that I've tried: WWE All-Stars. Not really an unknown game in general, but the game is already underrated on full consoles. I imagine the 3DS port is less known, and underrated by the people that do know about it. It's not an amazing game. But it's a pretty fun arcadey wrestling game featuring quite a few wrestlers. Half of the roster is more modern wrestlers, and the other half is 'legends' like Stone Cold, Jake Roberts, and Hogan. If you like unrealistic wrestling games, it's pretty fun to load up and do some matches.

    I don't know if you cover this before on the channel, but Fantasy Life for the 3ds, is an amazing time sink. It's all about jobs/classes as you can switch them basically whenever. From the standard Paladin and mage, to cook and Tailor. They all compliment each other. The music is fantasic as well, because it was composed by Nobuo Uematsu
    An Eshop only hidden gem made by the same company (Level-5) is the the Soccer RPG, Inazuma Eleven. In which, there are a bunch of players to recruit and special moves to learn

    For the first time I can say I've actually played everything on the list. Definitely a great and underappreciated set of games. As far as eShop recommendations, these games had me hooked for at least a couple of days each: Picross 3D Round 2, Pocket Card Jockey, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Weapon Shop de Omasse, Yumi's Odd Odyssey, and Crimson Shroud. I could list a few more that are well-reviewed but I can't really recommend them since I haven't yet played them myself.

      North American TH-camr in my opinion it will be quite a while before the Switch has a library of games behind it to make it worth buying. Plus it's never wise to be an early adopter. Let the system come out and it's features roll out and see what people are saying and try playing someone else's before you commit to it.
      I bought a Wii U when it came out and to this day I don't think it was worth the money. The system never got supported. Nintendo can only make so many first party games. They have "commitments" from 3rd party devs... but all of the same devs besides Bethesda publicly committed to the Wii U too. At this point most of the 3rd party offerings are ports, which means they're testing the water on this thing themselves. Let's see them announce big new titles that prove they're willing to put money into supporting the system and then you'll know there will be games.
      Remember that the Switch is only nearly comparable in power to the XBone when docked, but it is slower and lower res when in portable mode. That means that devs will have to produce different versions of their big releases for the Switch or just use it as a common denominator and make their games slower and less graphically robust across the board. That was a big part of the reason no one wanted to develop for the Wii U.
      Wait and see is the best course of action in terms of purchasing the Switch. The 3DS is long proven and it already has a great library and Nintendo is even still continuing to support it for the time being.
      I also find it dubious as to how easy it will be to find a Switch at launch if you didn't preorder it. Nintendo has a long history of having fake hardware shortages to generate buzz

      The Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions is a really great compilation of games, especially if you have limited space and have to choose only a few games to take with you. Not mention retro appeal.

Pilotwings Resort was my first 3DS game back in 2011-loved it and got a ton of mileage out of it, really, really cheap nowadays. I don't know if this is classed as a hidden gem but Virtues Last Reward is an amazing game

    • @takki3942
      @takki3942 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Communist Mr Saturn the original 999 is considered a hidden gem for the DS but the rest of the series went mainstream after Virtue's Last Reward came out. I would say Zero Time Dilemna is better tho because everything is in 3d and has way more voice acting. Plus the puzzles are way harder in it.

    • @user-bu6lu7jl6j
      @user-bu6lu7jl6j 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anarchy The Cynic In my opinion Zero Time Dilemma was a complete mess. The voice acting for Akane, Mira and Eric is awful, the plot is incredibly disappointing because the main writer only had enough time to write one route himself (Diana's Route) which ends up being the only good one. I think the thing that ruined the game the most was the 3D cutscenes that are poorly animated. I honestly don't know why they didn't stick with the visual novel style. But I agree that the puzzles are good and the 3 groups thing is pretty neat, even if it did take away character interaction

    • @takki3942
      @takki3942 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The true ending actually got me though. Plus wasn't the three groups thing in 999 in a way? Also I know the animation is crappy but it gets to you after awhile, like a really cheesy sitcom. And the dialogue may not be the best but to me it sounded like the voice actors did good with what they were working with. All in all, it may not be the best game in the series, but they did put alot of effort into it considering it was going to be the last game in the series. It just made me more excited for The Nonary Games. I didn't play all of 999 or play VLR so to have it as a bundle would be nice.

    • @SuperFirstSecond
      @SuperFirstSecond 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I loved ZTD, part of that is because I was glad they moved away from VLR's bad character design, but I think it stuck the landing reasonably well for the sheer amount of stories it had to connect and wrap up. As cool as VLR's final ending scene was, it felt unnecessarily convoluted for trying to explain the jumping system.
      I dunno, it feels like nitpicking I guess, I love all three of the games. I just wish they got the love that Dangan Ronpa gets.

    • @user-bu6lu7jl6j
      @user-bu6lu7jl6j 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      First Second I though every character in VLR was well written and had some sort of purpose (except one who was there because... reasons?)

  • @CosmykTheDolfyn
    @CosmykTheDolfyn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Code Of Princess was a favorite of mine on the 3DS. Just a really solid beat em up game, with all the campy dialogue you could expect from an Atlus game... and somewhere around 100 playable characters. Every enemy and helpless NPC is a playable character in this game and it makes it pretty great to just goof around.

    Saw another 3DS top 10 video from a lady the other day, which started out with games like Animal Crossing and Tomadachi Life, but then it got into Angry Birds and stuff. It's fine to have different tastes, but there's just SO many great games on the 3DS. I'm honestly surprised anyone would put phone game ports on their personal lists with such a rich library of quality titles.

    As for hidden eShop gems, have you talked about the Boxboy games? I missed the video you did on eShop gems, will have to check it out! But they are sooooo good.
    Great list, I have over 70 physical 3DS games and 40 DS games, plus about 70 more DSi/eShop games I play on my 3DS. It's my favorite portable system of all time, and I came into portable back in the OG Gameboy days.
    Other good eShop gems: Nano Assault EX, the Phoenix Wright games (trilogy and Duel Destines), 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (and 3D Ecco and 3D Out Run), Pocket Card Jockey, The Denpa Men series, Art of Balance touch, and NightSky. I am sure you have mentioned these in the video I have yet to watch of course. I have other recs but I know they are so obvious they had to have been covered.

    Glad to see some Azure Striker Gunvolt love up in here. By far one of the best games for the 3DS. If you're an old school Mega Man fan it's a must. And if you like Mega Man Zero for GBA and DS then you should own this gem already. If not go out and buy it!!!

    Dude, you should check out Code of Princess on 3DS! It's a sort of RPG/Beat-'em-up hybrid in the vein of Guardian Heroes, with playable characters including a bikini armor-clad princess with a giant sword, a Frankenstein monster-esque sorceress, and my personal favorite, a guitar-shredding elf boy.

      Personally even though I did not make the original statement.
      Stella Glow
      Lord of Magna Maiden heaven
      7th Dragon III Code VFD
      Slightly lesser known titles that weren't so obvious and well known by most 3DS owners but are great games (and may end up becoming hard to find).
      I'd have to stop and think to formulate a full list of 10 or more but these are ones I just spotted in my own collection that immediately came to my mind.
      P.S Newer Subscriber here and digging the channel thus far.

      Azure striker was a solid choice, I don't doubt that as I'm a day one purchase fan for the original and "nes" 8 bit release.
      Code princess comes to mind as a hidden gem, spiritual successor to the guardian hero franchise.
      Pullbox is an amazing little puzzle series too.
      Don't mean to be rude to "the dude" but pilotwings is not a hidden gem... 😕

      A couple of my favorite lesser-known titles. All are eShop only, but don't let that hold you back. :-)
      - Pushmo (US)/Pullblox (Europe). It's made from the people behing Paper Mario, Fire Emblem and WarioWare, but it's on eShop only. Awesome puzzler a lot more people should play.
      - Tappingo 1 and 2. Another puzzler. This time we're talking a grid where you tap a numbered block to extend a line of blocks. The problem is the number of blocks need to match the number you tapped, which is a hell of a lot easier said than done. You need to extend one line to cut off another, so the third one doesn't get too long or too short, and so on. You get the idea. Starts easy, gets really complicated.
      - Kingdom Item Shop. We're talking a JRPG where you, not surprisingly, run an item shop. But to do this, you need items to sell. This is done by going into dungeons to gather materials, fight monsters and all that. Maybe a bit on the simple side for some, but quite enjoyable.

      Stella Glow is amazing! It's a fun little SRPG that starts out as a cute little anime game, but it gets surprisingly deep. I highly recommend it for anyone who's a fan of SRPGs

    • @Reapehify
      @Reapehify 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price point however was and still is high. It launched at (CDN) $64.99, out pricing any of their other 3DS games including both of their most prominent RPG franchises Etrian Odyssey and Shin Megami Tensei. I loved the demo, but couldn't bring myself to buy it when I have both of those series, plus Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest (and for those out there who enjoy it, Bravely Default/2).
      When it drops to the $20 range, if it does, it would definitely be a great pick up then!

      Great with a friend too, but I guess that would apply more to the big screen versions rather than handheld. Still a fun game regardless!
      Gunman Clive is wonderful too, even though MJR already talked about it in a previous hidden gems video. It's short, but also snappy, challenging, replayable, and dirt cheap. Hard to ask for more than that.
      I picked up Edge when it was on sale recently but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. How is it?

    I think you should do a retrospective of all the Frogger games you know and love. I liked your Gameboy video chronicling all the different iterations of the Gameboy, so something like that for Frogger would be cool. Frogger is a great game to get kids and newbies into gaming, and is perfect for portable gaming too yet the games don't get much love these days.

    I recently picked up a 3DS game that I had never seen or heard of. I mostly got it because it came in a nice box and came with a soundtrack. It's called Code of Princess. It's a beat em' up/RPG. Interesting little game. Check it out of you haven't already. Great video, I love the 3DS and always need more games for it.

    Codename S.T.E.A.M. was advertised pretty heavily before its release, but it was forgotten. I got it for 15 new on sale and it's cheaper that that now. It's actually a pretty fun strategy game that plays very similarly to Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3. Plus, you can tap Lucina, Marth, Robin, and Ike amiibos and bring them in as playable characters. I think everyone should check it out if you can find it cheap.
