I watch a lot of cockpit Videos, but this one is special: You did an extraordinary job in editing it. The slow, relaxed attitude with less voice overs and more text inserts even gives us time to enjoy the landscape. I obviously had a wrong ideas about the Andes in the Quito region, it is very much a high plateau. 10 Years ago my Quito connection was blown up: Radio HCJB had a shortwave service for Germany, but after 80 years the station closed and the antenna had to be disassembled to make place for the new Quito Airport. Oh - why is it difficult to loose speed, because of the low air pressure?
@@DutchPilotGirl @DutchPilotGirl Michelle, what a shame you came too late for the Space Shuttle program. With its tiny wings it was often descibed as a "Flying Brick". Great video! Most people don’t realize how challenging Quito is since it is flanked by two giant mountain regions. The old airport was even more challenging because it lay inside the city with homes literally at both end of the short ramp. I will never forget landing there when I first met my -now wife - and her family. The announced a decent and moments later we were touching down with what looked like on a highway. Hard braking because the single runway was a fraction of the length it is today. Now the larger jets can arrive. My in-laws home is on a ridge where you can softly hear each flight come in and close enough to the airport were they could hear the jet arriving, hop in the car and pick us up. Today the airport is nearly an hour from the edge of the city which was very controversial when announced but much nicer. The old airport did not have bridges from the gates and customs was just a few desks setup. Ecuador is a beautiful country, amazing people and love going to visit my in-laws when I can. Thank you for sharing!

Another beautiful approach and landing. At high altitude. Wow. Nice. Thank you for these wonderful presentations. Look forward to all of the upcoming landings. Blue Skies!
I have Captained a B767-300 at SEQM 20 times. It’s challenging in and out, with everything operating normally. Add an engine failure on takeoff, and you’ll be VERY busy! I’m glad that I never went into the old airport, as I’m sure it was much more challenging. I also landed 7 times at La Paz, Bolivia. That is the most challenging airport I’ve ever been into, in my 40 years as an airline pilot. Elevation 13,314’ MSL, with runway 13,124’ long😳. Can you feature that airport in a video?
Absolutely a great video DutchPilotGirl. Great job on all the info during the flight vectors to approach/landing. It took me by surprise. I was getting set for the same type of video everyone else makes. But you really did a grand job on this one. Quito, a very interesting place to visit. Last time I was down there was way back in 1977. Things were a lot different in the area and country side back then. I was there for 2 years as a student of engineering at the radio station HCJB. They moved just before the new airport was built, all the way down to Canberra Australia. Again, Thank you for all your content.
A tough approach ..... and you see so many planes at the airport !! It is like, you climb a mountain with difficulty and on reaching the peak, you see a party going on......
A very well-produced video of Quito! It's very calming and everything is noted and explained for the layman. Congratulations on your upgrade in the B777. I noticed that the "Dutch Pilot Girl" aircraft shown on the UIO approach chart is still a 737-800 -- I imagine that you'll be upgrading that, too, in the future. I've only flown into UIO once, to the old airport as a FO on the B727-200. It was a real "eye-opener" (shock). It was listed in our ops manual as a "Special Airport", which meant that both CAs & FOs had to attend simulator training, which included flying the very complex engine-out procedure (at least two times: one eng-out each), then fly into UIO with a check airman. CAs had to fly into UIO at least every 180 days, or they would be required to fly again with a check airman. FOs didn't have that requirement; only one checkout required. As you stated in your video, it was quite a bit higher and I would say more challenging than the new airport. At 9,228' elevation, we were severely weight restricted on the 727 -- max t/o wt was 190,000 lbs, but out of UIO we were limited to 144,000 lbs due to the density altitude. For that reason, we flew IAH -- UIO, had a lay over, then the next day, UIO -- GYE (Guayaquil, Ecudor - as a fuel stop) -- IAH. We flew in late at night (2100, or so), thus we were dependent on GPWS (and not EGPWS, like we have today, so no mapping function). It was only the next morning that we were able to see the mountains that we had been flying around, the night before. We also had a special Jeppesen plate that showed our company-designed "Pressurization Escape Route", which would lead us through a pass, west of UIO, down to Guayaquil. Later, the trip was split between the B737-800 and B757-200, which were much more capable aircraft with more power, EFIS and EGPWS. I only went in the one time, and because of the special procedures and a/c limitations, I bid around UIO, never to fly in again, not even after my checkout on the B737. I look forward to more excellent videos, as you continue your career.
@@superfreakalmere4143 Ahh ok, thanks for the info .. I was already wondering. I don't really follow her but I somehow was stunned that she is suddenly on the 777
Depends on the reason I guess... One good reason might be a control failure on the left hand side while the captain wasn't in his seat to begin with (because he was having his in flight rest)?

Wait, you became a 777 pilot? Or are you just like explaining this video? If you did then congrats!
Nop, she flies B737-800 for Transavia Holland
@@superfreakalmere4143 Oh, she knows MKL so.....

These are very informative videos. Love the all the way to the Gate! And the Charts! Great job!
I just wanted to ask would a Captain get in trouble if he switched seats with his first officer
Depends on the reason I guess... One good reason might be a control failure on the left hand side while the captain wasn't in his seat to begin with (because he was having his in flight rest)?
@@DutchPilotGirl Have you flied with the King? If so, does he make passengers sing the national anthem before he takes off?
@@erkinalp Nope never flew with him but I don't believe he makes the pax sing the national anthem before he takes off😂😂
@@DutchPilotGirl I don't no if it's true but I heard if they switched seats they can be confusion in the cockpit of who is in control of the aircraft
@@DutchPilotGirl AFAIK they NEVER reveal his identity. if he takes to the sky he is not named at all.
I liked and enjoyed your video format. Interesting edits, informative but not information overloaded. Good post.
