  • Hi everyone, a couple of small but important things to remember when setting up your scope and fitting your rifle system to you. These will help your speed of target acquisition greatly and help avoid parallax issues if your using a scope that does not have a parallax adjustment. Thanks for watching.

    Agree 100% - I always adjust the eye relief on highest magnification as you describe - and from prone position. The reason for this - no matter how you will shoot the rifle afterwards - is that you head position is most fixed when in prone. It is very hard to adjust back or forth in this position sonit has to be spot on. When you on the other hand shoot from sitting, kneeling or standing position the head can move more freely and adjust the eye relief…

    Makes complete sense I’ll definitely do this as I’m setting up my new rig

    Out of curiosity, Have Suppressor laws changed in New Zealand in recent years? Last time I was there you could virtually walk in, hand over money and walk out. As opposed to here being either up to a one year wait , back ground checks to out right illegal..

      Hi, they are still the same. We have had many law changes recently including type of firearm etc but it is still legal at this stage to purchase a suppressor with a standard license. Thanks for watching 👍😁

    Fantastic video. Rifle appears to be a CTR. I have the same gun in 20" and would like to set up very similar to this for my type of hunting. Any info that you could share on the setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and happy shooting.

      Hi, the rifle is a Tikka T3x Bush hunter.
      16” barrel ( slightly heavier than the standard lite model) with a Hardy compact suppressor. Element Optics 2-16x50 HDLR.
      Thanks for watching 👍👍

      @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting I did notice the fluting. I have a T3 lite in 308 as well as a T3x CTR in 308. The CTR is what I'm looking to suppressed. Thanks for the info. Oh also, what suppressor? I'm not sure we can get over barrel suppressors here in the states, but it would be nice, so the overall length is kept nice and tight.

    Hey man, love your videos, I’m 16 and looking for the right gun to buy what would be your recommendations?
    What’s your set up?
    Cheers

      Hi mate,
      Depends on what your intending to hunt and where?
      Are you interested at all in long range shooting, or sticking to shots out to 350-400 yards?
      Are you planning on reloading or have access to reloading gear?
      Is weight a large priority?
      Are you planning on using a suppressor?
      Sorry to ask lots of questions, but this will give me an idea of what direction you need to go in to suit your needs.
      It’s of course ok to not know all these answers yet but it is worth thinking about. Getting your gear right the first time will build trust and confidence in it and save you a lot of time and money.👍

      Hey man yea well I will be doing bush and open country hunting want to shoot out to 100 to 450 yards, will be buying ammo as I don’t have the set up. I will be using a suppressor. Lighter the better, and would want a 16 or 18” barrel nothing longer. (Personal preference)
      And not looking to send anymore than 3000 for a set up?
      What’s your recommendations.
      Cheers.

      @@jacksmtbing2515 Hi, I would get either 308, 7mm08, or 6.5 creedmoore. The 6.5 will not be quite as efficient out of the shorter barrel as the other two but you do have good factory ammunition for long range available. I personally love the 308 as you can still get cheaper ammunition options unlike the 6.5.
      The 7mm08 is great you have more bullet weight choice than the 6.5 while still having higher BC bullets than the 308. Can’t go wrong with any of these just look at ammunition available in you area and it’s price. I would recommend a Tikka if you can afford it. The ruger American rifles seem to be accurate. Bergara have some great choices. The single shot Bergara takedown rifles are very affordable and a great option if your planning to just fire a couple of shots on a hunt eg meat hunt or trophy. The are accurate and very convenient to carry. I know it won’t be ideal for all situations but if you bought the 18” 1-10 twist barrel 308 and topped it off with a Element Optics 2-16x50 HDLR it would be a great combo as this would allow enough money for a suppressor.
      I personally think my Tikka 308 16” suppressed with that same scope is all you need but it probably more like $4000 all up with today’s prices. Don’t forget the second hand market. Iv seen some great deals recently. I would however buy optics new personally unless you knew the last owner.

    I recently purchased a scope for my CZ 452. I was down to a Bushnell and a Vortex. I’m begging to regret getting the cheaper Bushnell, but one of the reasons I went with it was the front bell and lens were much smaller on the vortex, and I was afraid of it because I always hear with any kind of optics that bigger is brighter in low light.
    I mean it’s a hunting rifle and though we may search in low light, we don’t hunt in the dark. Do you think if the glass is a little better, would a smaller front lens be a problem?

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, a larger objective lens will always help with light gathering capability. However there’s usually a lot more to it then just lens size. The coatings that are used are very important as well as glass quality. If it was say only a 40mm or 44mm it would probably be very hard to see any real difference in a practical application, however a 40mm vs 50mm or 56mm you would start to notice a difference. Again it depends on the combination of these things. Also the lowest magnification will also be a factor. The less magnification in low light the brighter the picture will be. Hope this helps 👍👍

      @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting Thanks, but why do you think they would make a scope like that? What would be the benefit? The one I was looking at was the vortex crossfire. In the store it was very nice, bright, clear, but I got worried about how it would be outside.

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jimf1964 What magnification was it? It maybe a LVPO style that is designed for close to medium ranges with the idea of being light and fast like a red dot but have a bit more magnification for longer engagements. I’m only guessing but often they have very small objective lens.

    • @jimf1964
      @jimf1964 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting It’s the vortex crossfire for rimfire. 2-7 magnification. They sell the same version with an illuminated reticle, but the one I looked at was a plain crosshairs, with the very centre part much finer lines. That was why I chose the cheaper Bushnell in the end, because I really wanted measurements for elevation. I’ll be head shooting grouse (partridge) with it so I need exact elevation.
      Well, it was that, and wider field of view, and I was afraid of the smaller objective lens. Even with all that, I’m still not sure I made the right choice, because it goes down to 2 which is good for a rimfire sometimes, and in the store anyway, the glass did seem better. I’m terrible at making decisions sometimes.🙂

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Personally I think you made the right choice. I would much rather have a good reticle with holdover points than a plain crosshair. Especially using rimfire.
