      really? Its the cover of issue #1 of the comic.

    • @joncarroll2040
      @joncarroll2040 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MikeFarnhamGalaxysEdgeGroupthat's not the cover of the first issue though they are similar in terms of composition. The big difference is that the poster looks like pure Chaykin whereas the cover was inked by Tom Palmer. The poster also has colors correct to the film. On the comic Vader is green, Han is wearing a brown jacket that looks like the one from the movie Solo, Leia is wearing a black dress and Obi Wan is less shadowy looking. The cover also doesn't have the vertical lightsaber down the middle in the background.

    • @Coolestmovies
      @Coolestmovies หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You’d be absolutely right to do that, because everything they do to these posters - as beautiful as the finished products look - degrades their value more than if they were left in their current state but secured tightly (but not permanently) in a plastic sleeve or enclosed frame. The client here sounds like he wants to preserve this in part for its future financial value, but everything they’ve done to it has robbed it of that because it’s had materials added to it (to touch up the inks, fill in the tears, etc). Based on other videos, they seem to permanently fuse/adhere them to those backing boards (and never address comments that bring it up), so that’s another layer of authenticity and collector value removed.

    • @FourthConeRestoration
      @FourthConeRestoration  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @Coolestmovies All of our processes are fully reversible. We provide our services for individuals, dealers and auction houses all over the world and our services typically aim to increase the life span of ephemera which was designed to be thrown away after the promotions/events. We don’t speak to the value of pieces we work on because we are not appraisers and at the end of the day the value of collectibles are determined by the collector. Through our decades of experience within the industry, we can say that our processes do not rob the pieces of all value.

    • @Max-million
      @Max-million หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ it’s beautiful work. Lots of talent to make these posters look so good for sure, amazing work. I think the process is more suited for family heirlooms and things with no value other than to the person/family that treasures it.

    • @Coolestmovies
      @Coolestmovies หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@FourthConeRestoration Thanks for following up. I was referring to you folks not addressing comments in the past about the additive and (possibly, I thought) permanent nature of the processes, not the value of the products before or after treatment. And as much as I admire the incredible skills and tools on display in these videos, I’m just a little skeptical that everything can be undone if someone ever wanted to verify the ‘true’ appearance of a high-dollar purchase (especially wherein the seller doesn’t admit that restoration work has been done). I mean, are the paints and inks used to touch up the artwork fully removable? If so, that’s great.
      Also, thanks for clarifying that the work doesn’t rob the pieces of all value. My comment probably sounded like I thought they did, when in fact my suspicion is only that the processes decrease the value of the posters to somewhere lower than their ‘book value’, even though they look a million times better.
      One thing that might be cool, and silence skeptics like me 😉 is a video showing the reversing of the processes on a poster that has no value either way.

      The poster was distributed almost 12 months before the movie. It's one of the first publicly available promotional materials for the entire Star Wars franchise. This poster was not made to promote the movie. It is not a movie poster.
    It was made to promote the Marvel comic book series, which had already been agreed to before the movie was released. Chaykin was the penciler and inker on the original Star Wars comic, so this was just another piece of cover style art. Some speculate that potentially multiple covers were drawn for issue #1, and this poster was just one of the covers that didn't get selected and was repurpose as a poster. Some others speculate that several artists were offered the job on Star Wars and had to submit a piece of art showcasing how they would draw it. Chaykin got the job and they turned his piece into a promotional poster. Either is plausible.
    Star Wars #1 was released in April 1977, a few weeks before the movies debut in the theatre.
    According to Star Wars historians, it wasn't just 1000 copies of this poster that were made. 1000 copies of the poster were distributed to retail outlets across the US who sold Marvel comics. Later, additional copies of the poster were offered for sale at SDCC. As stated, it was a slow seller. At the end of the con, unsold inventory was given away.
    So more than 1000 copies were printed but the print run for the SDCC copies is unknown, so it is 1000 + more. Many believe it may have been another 1000 copies. Attendance at SDCC was around 3000 people in 1976 and they really thought enough people would buy this poster that it would create buzz for the upcoming comic and movie. If you didn't make enough, you wouldn't create buzz. If you created too many, you ran the risk of not selling them all. It's argued that it would have been more typical to order 500 of them, or 1000 of them. Another arguement is they would have known far enough in advance that they needed them for store promos AND Comic Con, so they probably ordered 2000-2500 in the same order.
    I'm in the camp that probably 2000 were made overall. And many probably were destroyed and lost to time.
