You're channel deserves top tier recognition due to the context of the content you put out. You can find enough restoration/repair vids but advice that helps you make a decision and a budget before purchasing is pretty rare. A few things worth mentioning: bore scoring has nothing to do with oiling system inefficiencies, but more so the cylinder wall material (lokasil on M96/7’s, but Alusil used on the next generation 9A1’s). It also starts at the base of the cylinder and a proper bore scope should be performed through the sump. Going through the spark plug hole only shows 1/2 the picture and if scoring is that far advanced to be seen, you’re looking at a $20k+ rebuild very soon. Regarding the IMSB, it’s actually a brilliant design tainted by bean counters. All 911’s up to the 991 have an IMS, but the bearings are oiled, plain bearings, unlike the much maligned M96/7’s sealed ball bearing unit. Seal degrades, bearing goes dry and boom, full rebuild needed. Most people just recommend replacing it when a clutch is due and realize it’s a maintenance item. Check out Hartech, LN engineering and Flat 6 Innovations; they’re all wealths of knowledge with these engines! Ok, I’m done geeking out and I’m sub’d! I’ve owned a 996 for the past 6 years and love it enough to stick with it for a high performance rebuild. Until mine’s done, I’ll be looking forward to updates on yours!
I've come to the personal conclusion that the bore scoring problem isn't worth my investment in a 911(my dream car). Just blows my mind. The issue hasn't been fixed(still being found on newer 997s). The IMS issue has overshadowed the graver issue being the bore scoring.
Since you got the exhaust upgraded,you should try a body kit and upgrade the engine which is your choice. Body always lights a old cars spark,I mean then get a screaming Grey color and black rims
A few stethic changes could be made, well only one really, get rid of the damn headlights and put some normal ones! The 996 is so low valued because of the damn headlights
You should get facial plastic surgery to look like your father. Then drive it everywhere he would... wearing his old clothes. That's how you honor the man.
OR, you can get a 987.2 Cayman S for not that much more money, and get a way better, newer, and more reliable car. Same power, too, if you compare both cars with a stage 1 tune.

Low miles like in the 30k range $22k Every 1st 911 buyer afraid of being priced out of the 911 market started a bidding war on clean examples and prices started to go up. When the low mileage examples started to dry up, then the 80k-100k mile well maintained cars, prices on those went up, and people started to pay up to $30k 🤦 now the market is slowing down on 1st Gen 996's

3:45 Isn't this preventable if you try to find better fitting piston rings? In the way you explain it it seems it has to do with the quality of those.
