    Nice find! These cars lots of fun and great to wrench on. The horn issue is the airbag frame springs. Known issue easy cheap repair. In the mean time, stick a folded business card in between the horn and the wheel and no more honking. Your charging voltage looked low...should be reading closer to 14V. Don't lose sleep over IMS, you have a dual row bearing with low (less than 1%) failure rate. Get the car on a lift change the oil and filter. Cut your filter apart and inspect for metal. Also....check convertible top drains!! The immobilizer is located at the lowest point in the interior, under drivers seat. Got to keep that area dry!!

I bought the car without any inspection thru a broker, I have the car in front of my house and it starts and moves I will have it street legal by 9/2/2019. I have no complaints about the way you make your videos and if my comments carry any weight I hope you keep making them and thanks for showing me that all wrecks aren't total write off's. • @jrumiano
    @jrumiano 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randy- Nice score! Remember Porsche 911's use a dry oil sump. The engine holds about 3 quarts and the oil tank holds the rest. When you check the oil level, the car needs to be running and up to temperature. If you check it not running and cold the level will show little if any oil on the dip stick. When you change the oil, the engine and the oil tank need to be drained of oil. It has a 9.2 quart capacity, when putting in new oil add about 8.5 quarts then run it and get it up to temp. Check the level and add oil as needed to top it off. The last thing you want to do is overfill it! It will be a major mess (the engine and your driveway). Good luck with the new car!
    Update: your 996 has an integrated dry sump, there no separate oil tank. I used to own a 996 turbo and it had a dry sump. You check the oil level on the standard 996 cold. Sorry for the misinformation.

    Nice 996, got my 2003 986 local for $3k, put a battery in in and changed the oil and etc and it’s a great car. Have put over 2k miles on her with no issues. Previous owner put new tires and a new top on it before I got it and he let the battery go and thought something was wrong and his wife wanted it gone (tired of it sitting in her garage space). Lucky me, mine is the “S” model and triple black with the 3.2 and 6 speed. Fun cars and handle well, they like to rev and have a good power band past 3500 rpms. My 986 now has 85k miles on it.

    It's amazing how you gave us your life story from a trailer park, building up an inventory of cars from Copart, renting a dump of a garage for 300.00 a month, then the city comes after you to remove all your inventory, a rain storm floods your garage, you move your inventory to your landlord, and then he comes after you, then you tell us you lose you job, and voila you buy yourself a Camaro. All this time crying the blues to your subscribers. I'm sure a lot of them helped you out. Your good!

    If you change the oil regularly & use synthetic oil you will not have trouble with the IMS bearing. All Porsches have electrical problems. Smart Porsche buyers only buy air-cooled Porsches. That's when they made them right.

    The 996 "most hated" porsche 911. I say good job, it has the aero kit,, turbo hollow spoke rims(factory rims as you can see the rims size and width by the valve stem), low 92k miles, and 6spd. Keep it stock, no crazy rims,leave the stock radio in it, buff and puff it, and sell it. Keep me in mind when you do brother.

  • @85rx7se
    @85rx7se 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yes the intermediate shaft bearing that runs the camshafts, can and will fail around 70K or so .. It was an idiotic design by Porshce engineers. That same year car was done on Wheeler Dealers and they showed how a simple, easily available kit, can fix that issue once and for all. It does require the tranny and flywheel to come off, but once it is done, it will stay fixed. Porshce could have done it this way at the factory and the added cost would have been minimal.

  • @lisadennisorourke797
    @lisadennisorourke797 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randy you can decode the options via tag under the hood, these rims are from 2001-2005 996.1 Turbo btw. Call your local Porsche there are 2-9 open recalls right now on ‘99-01 996 based 911’s mileage Retail is typically $15,900 for ‘99 Cab 6 Speed in superb condition. With under 110k.

    The second thing.... while my friend who owned the car was driving... well I survived a crash nearing triple digits in one. The way it held up impressed me. Since then I have appreciated the 911.

  • @jean-pierrew.3859

    Great buy! You can find used parts easily. You will be able to find a door card. The top will be expensive. Join PCA for $46 and get many resources for the car. The miles are good and the chrome wheels could be an option during that time. Check for numbers on the rims. Newer wheels would add to the car. Get the drivers seat colored. Get the car detailed and it will show great. Find someone who can give you some pointers on the Porsche. Porsche people are very picky and know a lot about the cars. The IMS is a big issue, check the LN Solutions data base to see if the IMS was changed out. It will make a least a $2000 difference in price. You should be able to flip the car for a good profit.

    Try to get in contact to the former owner and ask him if he did the IMS bearing already, this will help you a lot

    Nice one, change fluids, buff the paint, condition the leather and change the top then send it down the road. The most expensive thing will be the top but still make a profit. 👍👍

    I work on these daily. Replace alternator if the voltage continued to drop as you were driving. Do not buy this alternator from your local parts store. It'll bite ya in the ass.
    As always...I can't wait for the next video!!

    That's a good deal on the Porsche. I wonder if there's an electrical problem draining the battery, or if the alternator isn't working? I had the same sort of problem with my Ford Ranger, turned out there was a problem with the radio that drained the battery in just a couple days. The fix was unplug the radio. I didn't replace it, rarely listen to the radio in that truck anyway, factory speakers weren't very good.

    I must say that the styling of the 911 has aged well. Neighbor around the corner has a silver one and I always watch it as it goes by. Just a nice looking car
