  • Hi everyone,
    This week I wanted to share with you what is inspiring me at the moment, from the High Street. How are the stores coping with this non summer?
    I have pulled together some of my favourites and paired them with pattern suggestions. I am in no way affiliated with the stores, I just love being inspired by them.

    Hello Cara, I'm coming to you from USA it is so nice to see your interpretation of High Street fashion and how you find patterns that look similar or just your take on that style, brilliant! We as sewist can absolutely do that because we are creative like that!! 🤗👍😄♥️ Thank You Cara for sharing. ,

    I think that halter neck jumpsuit would make an amazing wedding "gown". For the wedding service some kind of beautiful long skirt could be worn over it, which could be then removed for the party after. My favourite look is the wide leg pants with the blouse and vest. I'm not sure about those co-or sets. The wrong fabric choice could make them look like pjs.

    • @sosewmad
      @sosewmad  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Love the idea of the jumpsuit for a wedding with an over skirt! Totally agree about the pj look too

    Your Sew the Trend video was a joy to watch! I'm looking at a mountain of fabric right now. I need to be working on getting some trousers that fit for our September trip to Canada but I WANT to make every floaty dress and sleeveless top to beat the heat not those trousers!
    Here in Florida we've been boiling but at the moment we're keeping an eye on a tropical storm heading our way from the Atlantic Ocean into the Gulf of Mexico. Hunkering down for a rainy few days, so we'll see what sewing strikes my fancy.

    • @sosewmad
      @sosewmad  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that is a rollercoaster of weather for sure! At least you have sewing to take your mind off it I guess, hopefully the trousers you’re making aren’t too complicated, it’s lovely to hear from you thank you

    Thank you for a lovely video! I really enjoyed the items you chose and am quite interested in which patterns to use. It's all new to me! I sewed some as a teenager, and then again when I was pregnant with our first child. That's all a very long time ago now, and the combination of neither finding clothes that seem worth buying nor that fit properly has me ready to try sewing again. My first attempt from a pattern was a hilarious intro into the idea that I will either need to choose different patterns or learn how to make adjustments. So thank goodness for TH-cam and inspiring people like you! I am still bumbling around trying to make a me-mannequin... Learning by doing, for sure. Thanks for the reminder that I will eventually get to the fun clothing-sewing part! Greetings from Houston, Texas🌺

    I love Swim Style patterns and have made the Tamarara and Andi sets. I was a teeny bit disappointed with the Tamarara set - dislike flappy side pockets and think the shirt collar with stand is not really necessary and would not make again. Instead I have made another using Tilly and the Buttons Safiya trousers ( with a deeper waistband ) and a hack of the Reeta dress ( Named clothing) for the top. Conversely, I am on my second Andi set. Fabulous round up. Thank you. 😊 Lynne

    Thank you for this. I really appreciate it - it's a great idea, as the weather has made it complicated to work out what to make next!! Based on what you've shared, I plan to make the Matchy Match set as PJs and download the Grenadine skirt pattern tout suite. Sharon

    Oh Cara, you should come visit upstate NY. I think we've taken the weather hostage and won't let it float over to you! Thank you for such great content. I'm so excited about the Grenadine. I'm making a (hopefully wearable) toil out of a pretty purple jacquard I've had in my stash for 4 years! It's funny you picked a denim fabric, because I did too. Mine has cherries all over it. I also cut out my first Salto which I hope will look good with the mini skirt. You and I should do a collab - sewing together across the pond! 😊 Hope your week has been happy and positive! Thanks Cara.

      @@sosewmad Let's do it! I wish I could send you some photos, if nothing else, of the weather and our surroundings. One of my sisters and her family just arrived in the US from Germany. I'm German. Did I ever mention that? But live in the upper part of NY, which you did know. They haven't had the best summer weather either. They landed in 90 degree, sun filled and blue sky weather. They are tickled pink! They are starting their US trip in Salt Lake City, Utah and moving west ward to Cali, then south to the Grand Canyon and Arizona, then back to the east coast where I will meet them for family time in Washington DC. And it's anywhere from 108 degrees (in the desert areas) to the low to upper 90s in the rest of the country. Sorry! Don't mean to sound like I'm boasting! Oops. Good to hear from you.😊

    Hope your getting the sunshine now, I’m melting in my hair studio😅 I do love a bit of window shopping for inspiration and took the opportunity to sneak a peak at designer shops while in London this weekend, I totally agree that it all seems very neutral at the moment…I found everything a bit too beige for my liking!
    Love the monsoon, trouser/shirt set 😍 I have fabric ready for a co-ord set & just have a couple of pattern decisions to make.

I live in Southeast Alaska (off the west coast of British Columbia) and our area is a temperate rainforest. 110+ inches of rain per year. Such a fun vlog Cara. I love seeing what is in the shops to inspire my sewing - without the price tag!!! .Another option for the Phase 8 jumpsuit is to adapt the Aalto pattern by Papercut. It has that lovely twist neck detail and it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt it to a jumpsuit.
