Im from Palau and thank u so much! Most people dont know about Palau and my little cousin in 2nd grade is going to leave to Washington and will go to school there and she is scared to talk about Palau because she thinks she will get bullied because of it and it makes me sad that she worries about it…i want my little cousin to engrace herself and talk about Palau with her friends. I have recommended swimming sites which are Dolphin Bay, Jellyfish lake, and the Rock Island. Also if ur worried about the Jellyfish Lake then dont because they lost their stingers during the war so they are completely harmless (from experience)

I remember we went on a family vacation to Palau from Taiwan for my senior trip and just being awestruck by the beauty of the waters and the islands. Just thousands of fish and coral species everywhere, by far the best snorkeling I have ever done!
Alfred aka Ape. You're on youtube. That's family! Good job teaching Drew how to chew betel nut! Also I think Ape meant to say leaves, there's like a pepper leaf that you put on the betel nut, don't know the English name, but it's Palauan name is Kebui, it makes you dizzy if you're not a chewer. I'm Palauan and didn't chew until after college. I did try it as a kid, but I always get dizzy probably from the cigarette. When I returned home after college I started trying again. For me it was sort of social thing for me. It was a way to start a conversation as well also everybody had their betel nut bag so it was just a way to kind of just fit in, I guess. I started chewing socially, but never really got into it. Lime always burned my mouth and never liked the taste. Its was on and off for me with chewing. Now I am in the U.S and I think I chew more than I was in Palau. Different reason now, I'm doing it to get away from eating, LOL. Instead of eating, I would chew. Started gaining weight after the pandemic, now when I'm bored I go into the kitchen to look for food, so instead of looking for food and eating, I chew. Wow, this must be the longest comment. Palau is an archipelago of over 500 islands, part of the Micronesia region in the western Pacific Ocean. Koror Island is home to the former capital, also named Koror, and is the islands’ commercial center. The larger Babeldaob has the present capital, Ngerulmud, plus mountains and sandy beaches on its east coast. In its north, ancient basalt monoliths known as Badrulchau lie in grassy fields surrounded by palm trees.

Hi Drew! I’m from the Philippines and currently leaving in Dublin, Ireland. I’ve been there in Koror, Palau since 1999- 2003 I’ve work as a bartender in island bar located in Malakal. Such a nice place, lovely people, The late Fuziwara Taima we call him “papang” was my employer, a very nice person. God bless his soul.

Hey Drew, Thanks for making it to Palau. My wife is Palauan. We have been married for almost 30 years with 2 grown sons. I hope to retire there in another 5 years or so. Honeymooned there; I will never forget it. My wife and I spent several days and nights camping on uninhabited islands which my father-in-law would boat us to and from. A bit scary; no cell phones. You need a marine radio set or flares to get help if you needed it although you could hear boat motors in the huge lagoon; so people were near. Most fishing takes place at night, revolving around the phases of the moon, Palau's symbol on their flag,

Wow!! My father was in the Navy doing special, highly confidential work with the Marines during WWII..... He could've been in this battle...yet never liked to speak about his experiences. He also went to the Pacific at age 19, and just passed last year a week before his 98th Bday. Thanks for showing us this place where so many perished or had life-changing experiences. xo
Other than the overall beautiful video, what struck me was the lucidity and the detail your grandfather, and the elderly in general, come out with when speaking about remotest memories, specially during war time. Reminds me of my dad who had short memory issues but recalled everything about the d-day when he was just 17.
Something that blows my mind is when I was in high school I had 3 Filipino teachers. None of them knew where Micronesia was. I even said near Palau and they were like they never heard of these countries before. Palau is LITERALLY the country east of the Philippines lol anyways Palauans are doing well for themselves. Wow!! My father was in the Navy doing special, highly confidential work with the Marines during WWII..... He could've been in this battle...yet never liked to speak about his experiences. He also went to the Pacific at age 19, and just passed last year a week before his 98th Bday. Thanks for showing us this place where so many perished or had life-changing experiences. xo

Other than the overall beautiful video, what struck me was the lucidity and the detail your grandfather, and the elderly in general, come out with when speaking about remotest memories, specially during war time. Reminds me of my dad who had short memory issues but recalled everything about the d-day when he was just 17.

Something that blows my mind is when I was in high school I had 3 Filipino teachers. None of them knew where Micronesia was. I even said near Palau and they were like they never heard of these countries before. Palau is LITERALLY the country east of the Philippines lol anyways Palauans are doing well for themselves. Not all people from phils, they dont know this micronesia.. Majority from phils we know our neighbors like palau,guam,indonesia,solomon islands,Fiji,tonga,micronesia,tahiti,marshall island,hawaii,fortuna and walis, nauru etc the native brothers,sisters from the pacific islands we love them.
