Not to discredit your comment too much, but the right-side controls are very much still functional. Note how they move when the pilot's controls move.

Based on what I read, they were non-functioning, but I believe you over my own research! Pinning your comment.

On my first Cape Air flight there was a slightly nervous teenager seated front row. He received a stern warning from the Capt. to *not touch* anything, as he started to grab on to various things on taxi out. I've got some very fond memories of coming into BOS on the 420 seated up in that frontseat, really an experience that one should seek out before these aircraft are retired.

I flew Cape Air from Nantucket to Boston in the right hand seat and before we took off, the pilot told me not to touch the controls - I'm assuming because they were functional. The yoke moved in sync with the pilot's yoke. It was a very bumpy ride and people in the back were getting sick - but being in the cockpit, I didn't find it at all disconcerting.

Also, they need to be working controls for FAA check rides, live flight training etc.

Great video! I’m completing my commercial pilots license and Cape Air is my number one choice for my first professional pilot job. Cape Air is not only focused on giving top notch service to their customers, but also to their employees. Arguably, they treat employees better than any other airline in the country; some of it at a profit-loss, just to make things better on a humanitarian level. Thanks for highlighting a little known airline!

Make sure you pahk the cah in downtown bah haba and go to the labstah palah and get the chowdah. Acadia National Park was absolutely stunning in the the late afternoon. I used to commute from Hyannis to Nantucket and back using Cape Air. I flew two flights a day for about a year, and it was great. The best flights were when it was only us construction commuters. The pilot would relax and just be one of the guys. On one flight, our pilot was racing the other plane with the other half of our crew on board. He pushed that plane until the windows were whistling. Then there was the blind fog landings on Nantucket or the roller coaster ride as the pilot kept dipping to catch a break in the fog. Nothing like having the fog part and realizing you were about to land next to the runway instead of on it. You know it's fun when even the pilot almost crapped his pants on the landing.

On my last CA flight from Hyannis to Nantucket a woman brought along a live exotic rooster (Brabanter) with a diamond studded collar. Then a construction worker tried to board with his Chocolate Lab. The pilot said “no way”. I flew Cape Air for the first time STL-Marion,IL just to experience a 402 finally. Stayed the night and back next day. Moved my dep up and was at airport and there was a mx issue in STL, so the flight was a bit late and they combined the return with a Cape Girardeau, MO flight, so I got the bonus of a CGI stop! And, for the inconvenience of a CGI stop, they gave the MWA pax a free rt ticket anywhere Cape Air goes. So I finally got to realize my 'dream' of also seeing the Maine coast. I flew BOS-Rockland and drove over to BHB and Acadia Park, then Portland, Augusta, etc the next day. Great trip. Am going on Cape mid-July Billings-Sidney,MT just to visit Sidney and maybe get on a P2012 as they have been playing around with them up there for a bit. Love this video!

Cape Air is also an important connection to the places like Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket where they provide what is effectively commuter service between Hyannis and those two islands (and is the reason they will sell you a prepaid ten-trip travel pass). Yes, the bigger airlines provide connections to larger airports, but the schedules are seasonal and more limited while Cape Air has something like 10-12 flights a day for the thirty mile trip between ACK and HYA.

Great vlog as always! In the 50s in Norway, BU used DH-114 Heron on most of their domestic routes. A 4 engine plane for a two hour flight with 14 others. A fatal crash in nov 56 could have been one of the factors that made the airline buy the Fokker F-27 Friendship. That aircraft is like the story of the little engine that could. It was a cheap and very dependable aircraft that made the airline so much money that they could buy not only buy one type of jet but two! The Fokker F-28 Fellowship and the 737. Jr. The oweners son was not happy with daddy who bought the F-28. Jr. Saw what LH had done. Buying the 737 in both the -100 and -200 verson. Fun fact: the no. Of airports in Norway after the war? 6. FBU, KRS, FAN, SVG, TRD and BDU. BOO came a few years later with the help from USAF. That was the airport Gary Powers was to have landed…

Had to pick up an aircraft on the Vineyard on a low IFR day. Took Cape Air from Logan. Swore the instruments were busted, because the needles remained centered and unmoving the entire approach to minimums. I guess when all you do is fly approaches all day, you eventually get the hang of it. I was very impressed...

I have always enjoyed as a passenger, flying in a very small private plane into a big commercial airport. Most fun was coming into Dulles right behind a giant size Aeroflot Ilyushian.. had to stay way clear of the monsters turbulence!

Leg room was criminally bad. You are definitely putting a positive spin on things when you say it was ‘ understandably limited’

Fantastic video. But as soon as you brought up Bangor as an option I cancelled my original flight. I am a wimp :)

Just did this exact flight! It was great and I’d do it again. Thanks for the comprehensive guide on using Cape Air.

I lived in Boston for 5.5 years. It was amazing to watch them turn those planes at BOS. Mere minutes.

Just would like to know if the tecnams are flown single pilot? Was a instructor, commuter, and corporate pilot in my 20's and 30's and would like to get back into flying, again. I have 5,000 hrs. 800 hrs turbine, 3000 hrs. Pic. But it's been a couple years since I've flown. I did fly for pilgrim airlines, as a commuter pilot in 1985. And corporate pilot 1986 to1993 owning a flight school at the same time. Do l have any chance at all getting back in the left or right seat, been more in the left , but at my age would not mind the right. Thanks if you know because I really would like to do what I Was told I was good at, years ago . Just looking for a comment.

That's cool. I'm in pursuit of my private pilot license. Currently, I'm studying for my FAA written test. I should be taking it and ready by December or January 2023. My goal is to become a CFI and become an first officer for an regional carrier. I like aviation too.

Cape Air no longer services Fort Leonard Wood MO and I miss those Cessna's because it was fun looking down the runway at takeoff, it was taken over by Contour Airlines and fly ERJ-135

Next time you are in Seattle, you should fly on Kenmore Air float plane from either Kenmore WA, or Lake Union-Seattle to the San Juan Islands. This airline also requests your weight before boarding. My response: driver's license weight or real weight?

You should try going from San Juan to Culebra on Air Flamenco. Same idea, but I think it’s more fun than this. You don’t fly too high and it’s only about a 30 minute flight - you get great views.

Cape Air is experimenting with electric planes on routes under 250 mi. If they successfully make the switch, they will become the most profitable airline in human history within 2-4 years.

I think possibly another reason no cameras during boarding is if a 402 is being refueled, it's with 100 octane low lead. Fuel fumes and camera flash aren't a good combination.

Where are you staying in bar harbor? The company I work for owns a couple of nice hotels. You should visit us in Rockport Maine at the Samoset resort. Just a 2 hour drive down the coast. We also have Cape Air service to Boston!

Thanks for sharing all your videos--this one especially caught our attention, as our son is in flight school and one option that has been offered to him is to join Cape Air when he gets fully qualified. I know some of his friends plan to choose that option.
