U don't go politely back to the vendor, u can clearly see with the placement of the sticker that he intentionally placed over the damage. Also, a card that good and when u first showed interest he didn't mention the he had just traded for the card 45 min. Earlier. In the end, it's your fault for moving too quick but at the end of the day, the vendor knew and was waiting for a kid just like u to make a thousand dollar mistake
I fell for something like that many years ago when I was a teenager back in the pre-grading era (mid-1980s). A card shop owner sold me a 1972 Topps Steve Garvey card. It was in a screw down holder and had a circular price tag on the center of the card (and a circular sticker on the back of the card in the exact same spot. The card overall looked very clean and had sharp corners. The card was priced closed to a mint and I decided to purchase the card. Unfortunately, I didn't asked to look at the card outside of the screw down and when I got home I discovered a huge grease bubble that seeped from the front to the back of the card. I went back to the store and tried to return it but the owner said the card didn't have the grease stain when he sold it to me. I ended up never going to the store again and shared the story with as many people as I could. The store went out of business a couple years later though I doubt it had anything to do with the card and ensuring customer service he provided me.
The worst decisions in life are made when we are "desperate." Thanks for taking an adult position on this event. You have learned a good lesson. Mistakes happen all the time with collectors, investors, and dealers. We can all do better.
Great video my guy! We all screw up at some point, I was at the same show buying cards for my collection, got a bunch of really nice stuff, then on sunday I saw a card I wanted, only bought because it was a PSA 10 for 25% more than raw, but after I bought it, got back to the hotel room, I realized it was a sticker auto, and was not going in my collection sadly because I only collect on card. I know my mistake is nowhere near as bad as yours, but good on you for admitting your mistake, because passing blame never solves anything. Also I do like how genuine this video was from start to finish, and I completely agree with the videos for the camera, there are so many better interactions and experiences when the cameras arent rolling for youtube
So does that mean the others in better condition are worth a lot more? I have the 92/99 I sent out to PSA to get graded like 3 weeks ago still waiting for it to come back
Agree. An authentic grade is a red flag in itself. I think the blame goes 50/50 as the dealer knew what he had but not finding out why the card graded out authentic is also on the buyer.
Dude sounds like me... I used to get scammed, little scams, by thinking I have to steike when the Iron is hot! Whenever I had a this is my lucky day moment, I got burnt.
I only collect cards, i don't buy cards to sell.. i have cards worth thousands but i refuse to sell any of them! i always check the cards before i buy especially if it says authentic!! i have no joy in selling cards cause everything i collect is nostalgia to me.. what keeps me happy Is having cards others dont have especially 1of1 cards of well established players that are HOF Worthy.. i buy players that have been in the league over 5 years, i dont like to lose out on money, even though im not making any profit..
Props for taking responsibility. I personally think that the dealer knew about the damage (whether or not he was the one that put the tag there). However, he priced it as a damaged card, and the auction results of that exact card was there for everybody to see. He also did give you a $1500 credit AFTER a deal was agreed upon and paid for. This was not a card that was purchased online-you were able to touch, feel, look, loupe, and ask if you could take a closer look at the card (even if that meant removing the tag). Again-I’m not saying the dealer is a saint-I think he knew about the damage. With that said-the buyer was guilty of doing no due diligence-and the dealer agreed to the offer the buyer made (the dealer offered $750 back, the buyer asked for $1500 credit-which the dealer agreed to). What I see here is a deal where both sides worked together to make something work. The buyer is assuming responsibility and the seller did agree to a proposal made to him by the buyer after the deal was agreed upon.
Appreciate you taking a radical responsibility approach. Gonna have to go with others here, it seems likely that the dealer knew otherwise it would have been marked higher. It's true you were in the manifesting moment and made the snap purchase, whereas he would have had time to think about it. It'd been sitting in his case, staring at him. Hope the investigation reveals the truth here - but I also hope this does not get unsafe for the dealer at any point.
I appreciate the stand point you are taking. But an inconsistent part of the story is the dealer that sold the card. If he was as savvy as you. He would be thinking the card would sell like similar NT cards for $8k to $13k. But the dealer was willing to sell it for $6.5 k. Either he got a really good deal (knowing or unknowingly) on the card to still be able to flip the card for $6.5k or the dealer is the guy that bought the card on eBay and created conditions to look more innocent. Regardless, good information about keeping once’s cool on big deals. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your future pot cast. 🎉
I'd like to say it was karma. At 7500, if the card was minty, you could have made 3k easy. Instead you got greedy, and that's when that 10 turned to a 4.
This is 100 percent right on point. Alot of people do this not just you. This is an amazing reminder to pay attention to all the details. He realized little to late if says authentic obviously they didnt want it grades something off.
He knew sadly. A card of that caliber is going to be looked at just like your buddy did, which that vendor did or someone told him just like you were told. As someone else said, he was OK with 6500 knowing it sold between 11-13k. Too fishy for someone who makes 400k deals. He also wouldn't be willing to give you 1500 in credit. He probably would've given you 4k knowing what he did and got caught (essentially). Great video. It is cool that you think so highly of people...don't in business though. Too many shrewd people in this world that are always trying to take advantage of someone. Thanks for the video.
I agree with you-but how about the obligation of the buyer? The buyer isn’t some kid or newbie to the hobby. A big fact that is getting overlooked here is that the buyer himself is a card dealer. He goes around flying to card shows to buy cards to flip. He should have checked comps to see that the card he bought was the EXACT card that just sold for $4500.
I mean the fact that he game you additional cards speaks volumes to the dealer. I’ve been scammed as a young kid by dealers at smaller card shows. Props to him. I think you’re good!
GREED gets the best of all us. Want to applaud you on your honesty. Need more like you not less. If anyone tells you different tell em' F-off. Good luck my friend.
I give you props for not naming the dealer. Regardless of whether or not he knew it was damaged is a mute point. You had the decency to stay true to your own morals and not just blaming him. It was your fault for not looking the card up and down. Front and back. Personally I would've tried to remove the sticker just to look at it in all its glory. He would've had more stickers. I think he knew something was up with it. A dealer will know the comps and anything and everything. But you said it yourself, you saw the card and got the high of getting it for a good deal. Something in my gut even tells me that the neighbor in the booth next to him knew something was up with the card too, that's why he was eyeing you so bad. Not that you we're trying to steal it but that you'd uncover the truth of the card in the first place is my guess. But lesson learned, even if it was the hard way and it hurt your pocket. Keep chasing my friend. Thanks for the video
I think your both in the wrong TBH, if the card was priced at 7500$ he the dealer obviously marked it down due to the damage, if it sells for 10-12k. ALWAYS. LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF THE CARD YOUR BUYING he just didnt tell your ass, its called getting railed in the hobby. GGs you got a good deal on the card regardless, just keep it in an AUTH case and sell, obviously dont put a big money sign sticker over the damage and keep your next buyer knowing what hes buying. dont keep the fucking over going on in the hobby
That cards got a good bit of sentimental value now.. I'd frame it and hang it on the wall. If you can't fix it feature it! It may not be the most valuable or your favorite (that individual card itself) but it definitely has become more famous than than the other printings
Thanks for sharing this story. We can all learn a lesson from this… smart people learn from other peoples mistakes, dumb people make mistakes of their own.
People are so quick to blame the dealer or other person its wild.... dealer offered 1500 in trade credit with brought the paid amount way down.... not far off true value anyway. Would like to hear his side and see what is said...the original ebay seller could clear this up if he is asked who he shipped the card too if its the dealer question answered....if not then we know hes honest.. so much drama when people get scammed everyday for every item... In other news glad to see staknsell back dude always made interesting content!
In my opinion A.. the dealer wouldn’t have made a call if he just got it half hour earlier B.. why would dealer leave the original sticker from the other person C.. dealer does half million dollar deals , yet sells the card for half price D.. dealer doesn’t look the card over ,it’s hard to miss E.. dealer does half million dollar deals but no longer has 6500 F.. sticker placement was perfect for deception It just all smells fishy to me .. Sorry but with what I can see ,looks like he took you , got caught , said he’s broke so he didn’t have take the card back , then offers u some comp to smooth it out but still not take the card back .. kinda shady honestly..
He absolutely knew otherwise he wouldn't be willing to sell something he allegedly just bought for 4-5k less than the market value. Obviously he knew & as not cool as that is as a buyer its on you to stop yourself from letting greed stand in the way of logic. I would never ask that friend for advice because the first thing he should've said is "Don't buy it because there's obviously something very wrong with it if he's that far below market value". It's an expensive lesson & the only reason he gave you some back in trade is because he wanted to ease the backlash coming when he got outer on here. It sucks but that's the way it goes in this dog screw dog world
How do you not inspect a card before buying it? Especially with the amount of red flags. No number grade, red flag. Low asking price, red flag. Price tag covering corner, red flag. My 9 year old niece would have figured that out.

At least expose the scumbag who traded it to the dealer. Nobody deserves t get scammed no matter how dumb they are in the moment.
If there are cameras at this show I would have asked to see them and tell if the camera can pickup the sticker when he acquired it. But if there was no stickers like that on any of his cards think it is safe to say he probably didn't put the sticker there. Also the camera can maybe tell how closely the buyer was looking at the card, did he take the sleeve off, did he inspect it at all, was he busy doing 3 deals at once, etc. Unfortunately unless we know the other guy is the ebay sale than its possible tons of people got screwed on that card already, and everytime they pass it on to screw someone else.
I almost bought a used work truck till my buddy discovered a small piece of electrical tape covering the check engine light. So yeah, people do shady shit. Buyer Beware
But you did minimal research on your own and avoided it. What a pro life hack: if you blindly rush through a too good to be true deal, you might get less than you expect. Greed got this guy. Not a shady seller. The seller misrepresented NOTHING. Even the sticker, which was placed to not kill potential interest (smart IMO), wasn’t permanent. If a buyer can’t spend 10 seconds eyeballing a card no one would grade A unless damaged, that’s on THEM Glad you avoided a crap truck, but you avoided it because you didn’t get blinded by greed and did minimal research FIRST
The only thing I can think of which you haven’t mentioned is reaching out to Panini replacement. I know it’s unlikely but worth a shot instead of losing $2k. Big up for taking responsibility
I applaud you for taking full responsibility, and this was a good video explaining the actual situation. If you say the Seller's intention was 100% legit, and if he was 100% honest with everything he said happened, then ok, I may take some blame off the Seller, but...... There's one thing your video was not clear on (or maybe I just missed it)... so the Seller said he got this card from someone else and that the Seller followed up with that other person, when you went back the next day. My question, and its a hugely vital one, is was that original person there the next day? Did you ACTUALLY meet or speak to that other "person", or was it all just reported back to you by the Seller. Because if you never met, spoken to, or even seen this other person that Seller got the card from, then I 100% say that the Seller made the entie story up about getting this card from someone else. And even if he did, why didn't HE look the card over? He got the card and also didn't check it out?Doesn't add up. IF you actually saw this mysterious other person, then I just wasted a minute of your life typing the above. BUT, if all the Seller did was talk and reported back to you about this "other" person, then yep, he's lying. I've been sharing my original comment, and I'll go get it and copy and paste it below. ------- I'll say it plain and simple: The DEALER is completely the culprit here, and I would be blasting his info across all social media, and in today's time, it would take less than a few days and his Rep would be ruined forever. Even though the Buyer took some blame, I hold the Buyer at NO FAULT whatsoever. Why? Simple. Let me ask you. When was the last time you bought a graded card at a show and then proceeded to stand there and PEEL off the price sticker to look under it? NEVER! I have bought hundreds of slabs, some very high dollar, and I have never once said to the dealer at the table " Hey, do you mind if I just peel off your price sticker?" So I cannot blame the Buyer for not doing something that we all do not even do ourselves! Actually, I give the dealer 1 small tiny chance here, and that is if EVERY single card he had for sale, was the price stickers in the exact same area on all the cards? I would assume so, because if this card was the ONLY card with the sticker on the bottom right of the slab, while all his other cards the sticker is say, at the top... then ok... maybe, MAYBE the Buyer should of caught that suspiciousness. But here is the bottomline. We preach all the time about taking care of the Hobby and looking out for one another and having good etiquette. While tangibly, he technically did nothing wrong, he broke and violated every Intangible Hobby principal there is. Strategically positioning a price sticker to hide the blemish is a predetermined act, a premeditated planning to decieve a Buyer. That is what it comes down to. Who would want to associate with anyone like that in the Hobby ever again? I hope the Buyer shares this Dealer's info. I got my killas on standbye. lol jk

Say it is purchased for $1000, then every 10 days after for $1100, $1350, $1690, $1780, $1940, $2200, $2410, $2600... it raises the price of those set cards and similar player cards... You see this card has been skyrocking the past 3 months, you get it at $2500... by this time those collectors are dumping all of their specific set cards and player cards and moving onto another and you are holding the bag....Cards now only have a HOT life for 6-18 months... and they must be constantly sold back and forth to gain value... If you aren't in the circle then somebody else is determining value.

In my opinion the trade story a half hour before you showed up is all bs, if that was true then why was he calling someone when you offered him a low price he shouldn't have to call anybody he just got the card himself a half hour before.
Cost of doing business. Flippers run into this all the time. Check your cards!!!
We all eventually learn the hard way. Happened to me in a card shop in 1983. Keep at it, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your experience. You are not stupid. Tough lesson learned but for sure could be worse. And as an upside, you are now a voice to people who are new to this or inexperienced so they may not make the same mistake.
How do you not inspect when you purchase? Your right. Greed gotcha
Perfect example of Extreme Ownership. Great video.
RESPECT.... that's a really hard lesson to learn but you can lean the most from your mistakes. but you owned it...
Thanks for sharing. Learn from your mistakes is the right message. Be accountable. It's rare. Im subscribing now.
So does that mean the others in better condition are worth a lot more? I have the 92/99 I sent out to PSA to get graded like 3 weeks ago still waiting for it to come back
if something has an A something is wrong with the card
Agree. An authentic grade is a red flag in itself. I think the blame goes 50/50 as the dealer knew what he had but not finding out why the card graded out authentic is also on the buyer.
Great Video Bud! Your are a true awesome guy for owning it and the dealer working with you isn’t told in any of the stories out there!
Thank you for the kind words
Dude sounds like me... I used to get scammed, little scams, by thinking I have to steike when the Iron is hot! Whenever I had a this is my lucky day moment, I got burnt.
If its too good to be true , it probably is ! We have all learned this lesson in life !
Solid video man. Seems fair all around. Sometimes lessons are to help others. Everyone doing this has had similar experiences.
The buyer is assuming responsibility and the seller did agree to a proposal made to him by the buyer after the deal was agreed upon.
lol, true this true that, true gold true white 😂 buy what you like and collect what you love!! Only true is any 1/1 card!!
Great video. Did a big deal with you in Joliet and seem like a great guy. Thanks for clearing the air 👊
at least you are honest about fomo and how it can affect our emotions and decision making
Paying that kind of money and not looking the card over thoroughly is so dumb, especially being in an A slab!! Unbelievable!!!
Were all of cards stickered in the same corner?
I mean the fact that he game you additional cards speaks volumes to the dealer. I’ve been scammed as a young kid by dealers at smaller card shows. Props to him. I think you’re good!
I appreciate the dealer for doing that as well. He didn’t have to give me anything and he did.
Respect for talking about it
GREED gets the best of all us.
He knew.
I saw this story all over ig - good to know the backstory. Hit you w/ a follow
Moral of the story, a fool and his money are soon parted..
That cards got a good bit of sentimental value now.. I'd frame it and hang it on the wall.
If you can't fix it feature it!
It may not be the most valuable or your favorite (that individual card itself) but it definitely has become more famous than than the other printings
This guy should be banned from buying cards for at least 60-90 days
Great video. Well articulated. Things happen sometimes. I feel like you turned a negative into a positive in this case.
Great ! You learned Something! Look 👀 at what you are buying! 😂
I was the dealer AND YOU ALL NEED TO SHOW SOME RESPECT!!! NOW!!! 🫵🏻
Well then you shouldn't hide corners with price tags because that's a bit scummy
Thanks for keeping a positive attitude and sharing your story.
In my opinion
A.. the dealer wouldn’t have made a call if he just got it half hour earlier
B.. why would dealer leave the original sticker from the other person
C.. dealer does half million dollar deals , yet sells the card for half price
D.. dealer doesn’t look the card over ,it’s hard to miss
E.. dealer does half million dollar deals but no longer has 6500
F.. sticker placement was perfect for deception
It just all smells fishy to me ..
Sorry but with what I can see ,looks like he took you , got caught , said he’s broke so he didn’t have take the card back , then offers u some comp to smooth it out but still not take the card back .. kinda shady honestly..
When you buy a used card .. do you trust them or look it over and do your research
If you don't know, Nick is one of the most authentic, honest people in this hobby.
Obviously one of the dumbest as well 🤣
You should reach out to KURTS Card Care and see if he can fix that corner for you.

Did you watch the whole video?
Sucks that this happened but respect for how you've handled it and owned it in this video
Tough break. Painful to watch
It sucks but that's the way it goes in this dog screw dog world
You have a good perspective on life. It sounds as if you learned a valuable lesson with this trade.
How do you not inspect a card before buying it? Especially with the amount of red flags. No number grade, red flag. Low asking price, red flag. Price tag covering corner, red flag. My 9 year old niece would have figured that out.
I agree the dealer might’ve scammed you but that all goes out the window one you pick up the card and look it over yourself…we all make mistakes some just cost more than others.
Good Morning,
Thank you for making your video.
DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU HOW YOU MUST REACT TO A TRAUMATIC SITUATION.
You let your moral compass guide you.
Thank you.
I'm with you Staks, tough pill to swallow.
This is a great video. Your integrity is impeccable buddy. DON'T CHANGE!!
The real scam is you taking 16 minutes to tell a 60 second story
Right! Just get to the point!
nah 16 mins was sufficient. hes giving us all the details
@@7ThumbsUp7 I’ve seen shorter campaign speeches. That’s wild that you think it’s normal.
@@NYY34 I mean he's sharing his perspective and train of thought at each point. I think sometimes we like to jump to conclusions without understand the entire story. Ive read a lot of comments on here from people who missed a lot of the facts that are shared in the video.
Im on your side!! Keep doing you brother
I come from trading video games item and recently started trading cards. I have dealt with way too many scammers when I first started. I image the same kind of guys are also into cards. Never trust anyone in a field where money is involved.
Even if the dealer didn't know, you found the guy who traded it to him and he said he didn't have enough money to reimburse you and you just accepted that? How does that happen? At least expose the scumbag who traded it to the dealer. Nobody deserves t get scammed no matter how dumb they are in the moment.
Remember when card collecting was fun? It’s a shame what mostly the modern wing of the hobby has become. Thanks for sharing and Good collecting👍❤️
If a buyer can’t spend 10 seconds eyeballing a card no one would grade A unless damaged, that’s on THEM
Glad you avoided a crap truck, but you avoided it because you didn’t get blinded by greed and did minimal research FIRST
Sucks the corner is mashed but that’s still a great card to have man
As an owner of mahomes NT /99 true rpa, I agree ..NT /99 trues are 👑…feel bad for your situation
The only thing I can think of which you haven’t mentioned is reaching out to Panini replacement. I know it’s unlikely but worth a shot instead of losing $2k. Big up for taking responsibility
Thanks for the info. I just started collecting and it’s good to know what to look out for.
Glad to help
The seller knew. If he really just traded for it wouldn’t he have checked the card & notice the damage?
That dude definitely knew man
I applaud you for taking full responsibility, and this was a good video explaining the actual situation.

I'll say it plain and simple: The DEALER is completely the culprit here, and I would be blasting his info across all social media, and in today's time, it would take less than a few days and his Rep would be ruined forever. Even though the Buyer took some blame, I hold the Buyer at NO FAULT whatsoever.
Why? Simple.
Let me ask you. When was the last time you bought a graded card at a show and then proceeded to stand there and PEEL off the price sticker to look under it?
NEVER!
I have bought hundreds of slabs, some very high dollar, and I have never once said to the dealer at the table " Hey, do you mind if I just peel off your price sticker?"
So I cannot blame the Buyer for not doing something that we all do not even do ourselves!
I got my killas on standbye. lol jk
Why would he need to peel the sticker off? Sticker was on the sleeve, it is so simple to open the sleeve an pull the slap out to inpect it.
Mistake #1 was spending $6,500 on a picture of another dude
I make well into 7 figures every year selling pictures of other dudes. People like you have no idea. lol

What do you spend yours on? Barbies?
@ogChipbleeder the guys on the inside make over $100,000, not sure about this guy... And they all do it a bit fraudulent... this is what they do- Imagine you and 15 of your collector friends want to hype up a Certain set of cards (because they stock piled them for a few months) They sell the card back and forth, other same player cards, and other set cards... If you aren't in the circle then somebody else is determining value.
the seller claimed he traded for the card 30 minutes ago...bought it cheap...knows the price market and buying that card so cheap didn't lighted up for the seller something wrong ??? he didn't check the back of the car when this seller bought it ???
