    What caused the C6 exhaust valve to break is a collision with a small broken plastic part that comes off the 1st Disa valve.
    Common Issue around 150k Kms. This failure gives no warnings. If lucky the DIsa will rattle between 1500 and 2000 RPM before its flap axle breaks and gets swallowed by the intake manifold.
    Usually it ends up in Cylinder 6.

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would make sense that the small part could get lodged and wreck part of the valve. Your guess is as good as mine.

      @sebastianarreguin4585 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Late response, but wouldn’t that damage the intake valve? The broken valve was the exhaust valve..

      this happened to mine, ruined the valve and the piston. just threw it away before taking anything else apart.

    • @MrOnimix
      @MrOnimix 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes this is correct. The DISA should be checked every oilchange. If the tiny thing that hold the flap brake off and goes inside the sylinder you will have valve damage. I did not hear any sound from my DISA flap before passing 4500 rpm. Took it a part and find the flap loose......

    Wow those valves are caked up, how many miles did this have on it? .. is it a big / expensive job to just replace all valves?

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how many miles but it's caked because it was burning oil so badly. I just ground down all the valves. 👌🏼

    No 6 combustion chamber was steam cleaned by a coolant leak.

      Nice idea. I also think the valve broke and so they tried to walnut blast that cylinder because of low compression to see if they could fix it but of course, it didn't work

    is it normal to have oil on the pistonHeads ?? (when i remove my sparkplugs and look down in the cylinder i see dry oil on the pistonHeads )

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that it's normal. It probably has been burning oil for a while. As long as it's not wet like in the video

    Hone it and new rings

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I agree. I did hone it and got new rings... Although the TH-cam comment section seem to be smarter than me... The cylinder walls are a special alusil alloy so you need a special hone for it. Didn't know that at the time 😂... But I don't think it hurt anything with a regular dingleberry hone.

    • @trade1713
      @trade1713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buildanddrive I was just going to say those cylinder walls don't look like a regular steel cylinder.
      So it's a special coating??
      Why I'm not surprised with BMW.
      Always complicate things more then necessary.
      I'm assuming coating is thin, to make less resistance for piston and rings travelling, so you have to be very careful honing it.

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trade1713 yes, they are an alusil coating and require a special hone. But the block is designed to be bored 0.25mm over and fit new pistons etc. So I don't think my hone did much damage 😅. But if you have an N52 I would measure the bores, make sure they are straight and then just not touch them at all.

    • @trade1713
      @trade1713 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@buildanddrive yes, mine is identical to yours you are rebuilding.
      It uses quite a bit of oil, but to rebuild it, it's a big job..
      The making thing that's annoying me is the hydraulic valve lifter rattling untill the engine warms up.
      It rattles quite badly before becoming quiet.
      The well known flaw with early N52s..
      If I do anything, it might be valve stem seals and replace the annoying rattler while I'm at it.
      Still requires both cams to come off.
      That can be the tricky part to put them back on, since there's a special tool to remove intake springs on the camshaft apart from the timing tool.

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@trade1713 It's a massive job to rebuild. I used a 5w40 that helped with the valve tick. I replaced two of my lifters on cylinder 6 and had no tick for about 10,000kms but then it came back. I will change the oil and see if it goes away again. Send me a message on Instagram. I can show you how I took the valvetronic lifters off with a few bucks in parts from the automotive store.
