I have one, and a lot of the reason is reputation, not reality. The NA version is much easier to work on, and the 222hp it makes is plenty for drifting. The balance is very very neutral, which makes it a pleasure to drive, and controls easier than a lot of the cars I’ve been in. But it’s also got the most pure feedback I’ve felt on a 90’s car. But maybe I’m just biased
Right... I feel special.. especially the condition of mine.. Got super lucky.. Dude took care of.. Even still has the storage bags the T-tops go in.... 😆
The video of the red car drifting under the bridge is an old buddy of mine! It’s rb swapped. A small group of us used to go down there about 2a.m. And practice slides and tandems
I had a TT 1991 2 door 5-speed. It was a fantastic car. Never drifted or anything like that, but handling and feel it was truly awesome. You sit so low and it really drove like it was on rails. Never felt like a handful. Great surge of torque from about 3500rpm. Had mine tuned with a straight through exhaust. Not too loud. No need for silly blow off valve ‘Pshhh’ sound either (has a recirculating valve’ I think it’s called) which feeds waste back in to reduce turbo lag. Had the 4-wheel steering, but I never really noticed it’s affect when driving. It just went where you pointed it. Put a heavier clutch on it after wearing factory one out which took some getting used to from memory.
I always wanted a tt300z, when i got done, I got a svt cobra. The cobra was fun. I also had a few vollvo 260s and 780s. I wanted the Z, but its too good. Its designed not to slip.
Weight is the z32's drift capability problem. Yes. It the car is very well balanced but changing directions quickly is effected by the car's weight. We just like being able to easily smoke the tires, at will, whenever we feel like having a little fun. ha-ha
Stripping the rear/hatch area, removing ac compressor, removing the hicas /swapping out the tt power steering pump, and carbon t-tops if you can find them. Will remove a good amount of weight. They’ve got whole lists in the forums though if you wanna get close to 3000lbs. Then bumping up the power to 350-400 you’ll be a rocket.
S13 front suspension is mcphereson and a downgrade on the Double wishbone front the Z32 has. You can get plenty of steering angle with aftermarket Z32 parts.
How/why is 4 wheel steering detrimental to drifting? It seems to me like it would HELP. My thinking is that while drifting a right hand turn, the steering wheel is turned to the left of the car to keep the front wheels in line with the direction of travel. If that same car in that same turn had 4 wheel steering, then the rear wheels would also turn slightly to the left. Which seems like it would be a good thing in a drift. 🤷♂️
No? It makes drifting incredibly unpredictable. You want a predictable back-end, not one that responds simultaneously with your constant steering inputs in a drift
I think the idea is that the 4-wheel steering counteracts rear instability (over a certain speed). It keeps the car balanced and the rear wheels turn to aid this and prevent oversteer. That’s my understanding from when I had my 91 TT
@@AmaAndZing 2+2 is better for stability at higher speeds, better for drifting Annnnd more importantly you can actually get laid in 2+2. You prolly wouldn't kno bout that stuff doe, hairdresser
Simple reason, it's a expensive heavy headache. It's the cars sole purpose it to be drifted then it's not worth it unless you're sponsored in some way. Aside from that it's a great car

I agree with you. non turbo 300zx was the car I used learning "spirited driving" . Im honestly surprised everything still works in mine!
hope it stays that way, few enough of them as is, dont need a bunch of blown up and wrecked 300s from drift kids. VG30DETTS are still cheap too

Probably because it's more popular in highway racing like in wangan,Tokyo expressway etc.

My car is the lp2 with the stillen wing in this video, it is heavily modified to be a drift car.
300zx Z32 its the best and most beautiful design > only because working on it is difficult
I'm pretty sure the 2+2 was a hugely popular drift car in japan in the 90s?
300zx was most expensive car on nissan catalog in early 90's

It says production till 2000, but it was not produced till 2000. I believe the last one was rolled out in late 1998...
Japan market was until 2000
There was a facelift in late 1998 for the 1999 model year and final production was in 2000.
Question: if the 300zx is too heavy can we reduce the weight of the car by stripping out the interior. Will it drift like a nice drifting car
Simple boost up mods to 400 make the car suitable stripping the interior would just make it go like hell
