I absolutely love the old school 300zx turbo...I have a fun story related to this car while growing up...my very close childhood friend came from a relatively wealthy family so he grew up spoiled...and his school grades reflected it, lol...well anyway, when he was a junior in high school going into his senior year, his father asked me to help him study and get a decent score on his SAT. He scored a 1070 his first time and it wasn't looking good...so I spent a good 3 months prepping with him and studying pretty hard and dedicated...well his second test, he scored a 1310. His father was so happy, he bought him a 300ZX twin turbo. It honestly made both of our lives because it felt like we achieved it together. He even gave the car to me for the first month of ownership because of how happy he was. We had a lot of fun driving it over the years. He finally had to scrap it at 186k miles due to catastrophic issues...but we often talk about our younger years driving around in the Z.
I just had my 1991 300zx totally overhauled engine, manual transmission, new paint job, black, same dashboard interior still intact. This car was way ahead of its time!
"unerrated icon?" yes, very underrated. the Nissan 300ZX TT is one of the nicest sportscars ever. i wish Nissan would make the 300ZX TT again in the exact same look, maybe as a hybrid with 4WD but lookswise (body and instrument board etc.) should be the same. the Nissand 300ZX TT is world culture heritage, in my opinion and should be preserved forever.
I was planning on a Corvette C6, but when a mint right hand drive clean twin turbo manual came across my view, well, 5 years later, loving it still. The car has an almost visceral feeling, like it connects to the drive, especially the standard. It flexes, you can feel the transmission thru the shifter, the twin turbo v6 breathes, and responds. You are spot on, there really is only one car that drives and connects in this way.
I was looking at the c5 corvette, but I went into my garage and looked at my black on black z32, stared at it, and said to myself, Nope, to sentimental!
@@udizzy3449 I’m not too sure how much this particular one cost. A quick look online for what they sell for in Japan will give you a good idea. But there just so cheap in comparison to the other legends form the 90’s.
There's a few things about the auto and speaking from experience since owning one from 2003. For spirited driving and around corners 'OVERDRIVE OFF' this wakes up the auto and makes it super responsive! If the auto has to come out due to a rear main seal, it's the perfect time for a valve body modification after that, IMO its better than a manual. :)
It just restricts it to 3rd gear and prevents it from using the top 2 "gears" since the overdrive is essentially a 4th gear PLUS at speeds over 60mph with overdrive on and the vehicle in it's 4th overdrive gear it goes into a pseudo 5th gear, more so the RPMs drop by about 2k, but it's not exactly a 5th gear.
Good review, just remember though, the Z32 is not an 80's car. The Z32 was sold between 1990-1996 in the USA, and 1990-1999 in Japan and few other markets. So repeat after me "the Z32 is a 90's car. Thank you !
A number of new car models are introduced to the market a few months earlier than it's actual model year. That is pretty much how cars are released into the world market place. By the way I own a 1991 Z32 twin turbo myself.
Thank you for sharing.😊Did not know that there were Z32 300zx's with such genuinely low km's as they were designed to be dilly drivers cars.......... or .......... seriously lethal track cars as Steve McQueen proved when he broke multiple track records & won many championships over the years, with his 300zx, in his spare time.
Still look a great car, so underrated and back in the day SO far advanced for their time, still look a modern sports car from the front, despite being 30+ years old!!
in 2002 i had the chance to buy a similar model 300zx, auto with 50k mileage... my dad talked me out of it... but i have always admired the car since then.
I bought 2 in Japan. . First was gunmetal and the next was white. since then ive had 2 Brzs 5 years each. But i could still go back to the Nissan if i found a nice one. Still my favorite car!
I wouldn't say that the Z32 TT is underrated. They're well-known and highly-regarded. It's really too bad that this one is an automatic. They're far better with a manual.
I have loved the Z32 300 zx TT from launch and am a 300 zx TT fan for life. ha-ha I am about to buy my fourth z32 300zx which should be my last 300 zx TT. ha-ha As an example, years ago, I was almost inconsolable when I saw a 300 zx being blown up in an 'Expendables' movie (those guys have no respect for a ground breaking, classic car). I bought my first 300zx TT manual and hocked my life to buy & run her. Eventually I was forced to sell her or go bankrupt. hmmm Years later I bought another 300 zx TT manual that had been boosted to almost 600kw at the wheels & tricked out to be insanely fast ....... even when driving quietly ....... ha-ha. This time I could afford to buy & run this crowd pulling beauty but as the police knew my car, so I had no defense, and ended up supporting the local council more than I could afford. Eventually I had to sell her or go bankrupt again. hmm I am sure any rev head would understand how difficult it is stay within speed limits when the car is encouraging you to enjoy the unbridled adrenaline rush, coupled to a deep, thrilling exhaust sound that the car wants to give you. ha-ha Years later, I bought my third 300zx TT but was an auto. The previous owner had fitted this zx's motor with uprated, after market twin Gareth turbo's, bigger injectors, etc and had a modified torque converter allowing the engine to rev to approximately 3000 revs before engaging on aggressive take off's!!! We had many years of depressing WRX's owners who dreamed that they could easily 'out drag' a 300zx auto from traffic light. ha-ha Family pressures made me reluctantly sell my Nissan 300zx TT that was 'midnight blue' with Ivory interior & a genuine head turner to look at. Now, at last I am looking to buy my fourth 300 zx TT and hopefully keep it for the rest of my life. ha-ha
