Thanks for posting, just a note, those dimples on the caliper cylinder are for retracting the cylinder with a special caliper tool.Once the tool is engaged, you turn clockwise to retract the cylinder so there is clearance for new pads. Old school, you would use a c clamp to press the cylinder back. On these cylinders that method is not possible. Everything else is good, though a lot of it is not nesasary as the new calipers I bought had grease on the slides, and you can use dialectic grease on the back of the new pads instead of disassembling the caliper.

Stupid question. Are the front calipers and rear calipers the same?

No, they are different, however they are similar in terms of servicing and operation. The rear calipers on this model incorporates a mechanical parking brake for the rear wheels separate from the actual braking of the vehicle. The pistons for the rear will need to be turned/twisted in order to reset the piston inside if they are not seized, otherwise the calipers will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The front calipers are larger than the rear as most of the braking is in the front. Brake distribution will vary from vehicle to vehicle, but most of the time it is a 60 front/40 rear or 70 front/30 rear distribution. The pistons for the front calipers push in in order to reset them when you are replacing brake pads. All four wheels operate hydraulically by the brake fluid and has a separate mechanical parking brake system for the rear wheels only.

Thank you for the reply. I'm in the process of fixing my 08 mazda. And I'm doing the pads. Rotors and calipers. And I noticed Detroit axle doesn't have the rear calipers. Only the front ones. So I was thinking maybe they were the same. Good thing you replied I would have ordered 4 😂😂😂
