    I like exercise throughout the day...

    Can you please do an updated version of this video with other examples and exercises to do for people living with MS? I have a bosu ball, weights and resistance bands.
    I exercise all at once normally and always in the same place.
    Thank you!

    Can they measure BDNF? I spend my life trying to get movement and this neuroplasticity explanation is encouraging, as after 21 years of constantly trying, I am losing motivation. What if you have the movement but the fatigue factor is getting shorter and shorter. Down to 2,000 steps before my leg drags, despite doing my PT exercises almost every day! Is there a way to extend the time to "fatigue".

    Do you recommend using a treadmill for walking problems?

    • @DoctorGretchenHawley
      @DoctorGretchenHawley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A treadmill can be helpful! It's more functional than an elliptical. Treadmills are nice because it simulates a very similar position and situation to walking throughout our day and you can slow it way down so you can go at a pace that focuses on form!

    I was diagnosed with PPMS 16yrs ago and in a Powerchair for over 10yrs. My goal is to stand up and walk again. Have you ever seen this goal met?

    • @regi7

      PPMS typically has no recovery. I'd speak to your physician and physical therapist.

    YAY I taught my MS client how to stand up right! She also needs the prompt to REACH across the room. I also insist she sits without plopping. Definitely not Side plopping. Perturbations have been a life saver for her balance.

    My wife has not walked since her uti in 2013. What can we do to get her strength back

    • @DoctorGretchenHawley
      @DoctorGretchenHawley  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so sorry to hear that! It's a difficult question to answer w/o an in-person evaluation...but there are seated exercises that can be done to help improve leg , hip, knee, etc. strength. I have some full length classes on my page.🧡 Sending my best to your wife!

    Would you recommend a walker or a rollator for practicing walking?

    • @DoctorGretchenHawley
      @DoctorGretchenHawley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question - It is hard to answer that though since my recommendation would depend on the individual, and their needs. I can say that I have clients who use rollators, some that use walkers, and some alternate between both.

    Thank you, as a PT student myself, this was very informative!
    Quick question tho regarding the standing up technique. I understand that the goal is to stand and be independent "at all cost". But leaning forward like that puts quite a bit of a strain on the lower back. Wouldn't that complicate things over time if the patient develops a disk herniation or something?

    How do I stop my leg from circumducting?I can lift my weak leg just fine but I am trying to stop the circumducting

    • @DoctorGretchenHawley
      @DoctorGretchenHawley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of ways! I just recorded a video on this and will be posting it soon-ish! Circumducting often occurs due to weakness in bending the knee, so I'd start there! Most people think it's a hip issue, but that's just a small part of the symptom!
