  • Some more examples of using the Rule of Seven and deciding which is the danger hand
The links to replay the hands are:
    • Number of times to duck = SEVEN - (Total number of cards you have in that suit).
    • Use the Rule of Seven to duck twice. You hope that the hand with ace of diamonds does not have 5 or more hearts: tinyurl.com/y7n...
    • If the hand with the ace of diamonds has 5 hearts, the contract cannot be made tinyurl.com/yx...
    • If the hearts divide 4:4, you would be OK too tinyurl.com/y4...
    • Duck twice, then play the diamonds in such a way as West, the dangerous opponent, cannot gain the lead: WEST=DANGER tinyurl.com/yd... Even if the finesse loses, you have prevented West gaining the lead tinyurl.com/y9...
    • Played Correctly POLL which is the DANGER HAND the hand we do not want to gain the lead? tinyurl.com/y9...
    • Played incorrectly tinyurl.com/yc...
    • Played Correctly if the finesse fails tinyurl.com/yc... The KH is protected. It does not matter who has AH!
    • Finally, do not duck if you are even weaker in another suit tinyurl.com/y4... That lead of H2, looks like it is 4th highest, so the hearts are dividing 4:3 and are not such a threat. Diamonds are a greater threat if you let East win the first heart he may well switch to a diamond. tinyurl.com/y4...
    • Sometimes the hand with the long suit is not dangerous tinyurl.com/yy...
    • With AJx there is a decision to made about whether to duck or not, depending on which opponent may be able to gain the lead tinyurl.com/y3... or tinyurl.com/y5...

The danger is the one you do not want to gain the lead...Because it could attack your vulnerable remaining Kx in Hearts- Vulnerable if The HA is in the West Hand and he has a holding like AJ10xx(x ).

is this only relevant for NT ?

Yes, this is really just for No Trump, though the idea of the danger hand is sometimes also relevant in a suit contract.

not necessarily - lets say dummy has AQ72 and declarer has 109 and the lead is 6 from a none trump lead - if they play 4th highest then you could duck and hope they have lead from KJ86...if they have lead from a doubleton - then playing low on the first card won't have cost you - unless they have lead a singleton!

@@johnworf Hi John - I assume you are talking about the Rule of 11, which is not the subject of this video.
