Playing bridge online, do you ever find the hints and explanations sometimes leave you even more confused about what to do?
In this hand, after overcalling 2♠, partner bids a 3♥ Cue Bid, and we must choose how to respond to the Cue Bid. Should we bid 3♠, 3NT, or 4♠?
Curt Soloff is here to help and summarizes our general options after a cue bid. Do we want to retreat or advance?

With the heart finesse, you can actually finess the J first without donking with the Queen into the Ace by leading the 3 first, intending to play the 10 if it is higher than what West plays. If W plays the A on that trick (regardless of who has the J), then the K and Q of H are sure winners.
Agreed. Based on the bidding, when East didn't immediately show support, he may not have 3 card support. Less vacancies for the J. Even if the finesse loses to a Jx doubleton, you will still get the one H trick you deserve.
Interesting hand. Thanks for sharing. You mentioned that this was a Funbridge tourney but you are showing it in BBO. Do you mind sharing how you got the deal over there?
Funbridge robots make a LOT of complicated bids, IMO.
Thanks once again for your lesson. What does a cue bid generally mean in other cases. We were taught the if you bid the opps suit you have 5 of other suit.

Hey bajir, loving the lessons as always, my brain is old and I’m a slow learner! What is fun bridge? Did you mention it here
Funbridge is an app. You can play a few hands for free, then it is subscription. I find it a fun way to improve your game.
Really clever (and risky!) that finesse of 10H at trick 6. Would never have thought of it.
If you're counting hcps in the defenders' hands, you wouldn't try this finesse - you'd place the HJ in East to have something (still not nearly enough!) to bid 1NT.
