I'm from South Carolina and was working in Mobile Alabama in 1989. I heard them on WGCX I believe it was, and immediately went and bought cassette. Wore it out. Turned my brother and many people, including DJ friends, on to them back then. I can't speak for the popularity down here but in my circle we play them all the time. Up To Here was just simply off the chain!
I was in that mass humanity of people at Market Square the night this happened... I never heard Machine till this night. Probably my all time favorite song by the hip
Residing right across the river those of us in northern Erie county NY have had much more exposure to great Canadian bands than most people in the states.
From Niagara Falls and love the hip! People around here go nuts for them. I've had friends from out of state that never heard of them and I always feel greatly appreciative to have the hip apart of my life.

2:42 - The muted flange part of the song is so damn good! 👍🏻
This song is transcendent
This is the best version IMO. Absolutely amazing... We're gonna figure it out, you're gonna figure it out!
Have we tho? I like to think a little bit, from that night and all nights after.. Gordie baby, I know exactly what you mean ; )
