      Dear scarletbegonias.
👍👌👏 I wanted to comment similar but fortunately you already did all the writing work. 😁 ;-) 2) The mother in law should definitely be mentioned too because Maya has at least 50% of her gens and she is a great host.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.

Watched this twice, couldn't really pay full attention because I was making dinner, but then popped it in the oven, followed your initial advice, poured myself a drink and sat down watching this properly. Thanks for making my fridays, well, my fridays, for a few years now.

Aladino used the word "success" before the cutlass bearing was fully in place. MY GAWD man! Where is the necessary sailor superstition? :)

Magic Carpet 2 is getting the beauty of a clasic yacht with a lot of new concepts and materials, added with a very high level of craftmanship...
With the GOOD MUSIC, I only have to imagine smelling the nice mix...

Every time I've replaced a cutlass bearing, I've left about 1/2" protruding from the shaft tube. Next time you (or whoever) needs to replace it you simply release the set screws (which they apparently did not used) and using a vice grip or channel lock pliers spin the bearing out. I've never had a problem with the small amount of exposed bearing. And it certainly simplifies what can be a challenging task with the shaft in place.

Should be an interference fit and not come out without a puller and not the tiny makeshift one he used. That said I've only done one boat bearing and mostly bearings on land based machinery where a tight fit is critical and the insides are not rubber with water providing a buffer.. How often are you replacing yours and have you had any issues with the tube hogging out and becoming tapered? On the 9ne I did this was f9r sure an issue.

The attention to detail is not only in the preparation but extends to seemingly simple tasks such as adding the eyebrows. The care to attach without making big screwholes, takes a lot more time, but who likes leaks in the future. Preventing leaks to those new beams etc. is important.

sorry i have missed a few episodes and finally remembered name of your channel after losing my previous laptop and having no access to my browser history, its been pretty mental, but i'm back under a new name as i also can't access my Google account, (i hate Google, they have made signing in harder than signing into my own bank account), but i am here to binge watch the last episodes and catch up (don't think i have missed anything) and WOW the upper deck is looking amazing, like a high quality bath tub so white and shiny, that's not dissing your work Aladdino, it is top notch quality and so is Maya's varnishing making wood look sexier than it did when it was a tree, stunning stunning!
good to see your dad still helping out too, keeping his hand in

The cabin front with its 90 degrees angle is rather boxy. Therefore it was an excellent idea of yours, Aladino, to install the 'eyebrow', in order to visually break it up a bit; Chapeau 🎩

The boat is really looking amazing! Really like the way you installed the eyebrows, they are always a source of leaks when installed with screws in the usual way. Glad Mack Boring stepped up and helped you with the Aqua Drive. Really great set up to have, which will also prolong the life of your reduction gear by reducing wear on bearings and seals. As always Maya's varnish and paint work is art in and of itself

Fun fact. Back in the days cabin tops were made out of cloth and they used what you called “the eyebrow” to nail them on the cabin sides, to spread the loads and avoid tearing out the cloth

Correct except for one thing. The structure would have been made of wood, and just covered in thick, coarse woven canvas. After it was fastened down with the battens around the edge, they would liberally paint over the canvas with oil based, often leaded paint that would protect everything and help keep the canvas stuck to the roof. This also served as a primitive non-skid surface.

Great work and very nice way of attaching the teak to the cabin without using screws or through bolts. If you have future similar tasks you could try using 3M VHB tape. It is used to hold large windows in skyscrapers and to hold enclosed trailer panels together rather than rivets. I used it to install non-opening portlights / deadlights during a refit of our older sailboat and it is very strong. i also ran a bead of Dow 795 around the edges as welll and have had now leaks and they look great. Best of luck! We enjoy the channel !

Always so impressed with your level of craftsman's ship, truly a lost art form. I was concerned as you were moving your thrust retainer position and it's relationship to the prop location...then I realized you can still trim the shaft length if required. Why, I watched Sam Holmes Sailing site and his " Big Expense" a few moths ago in the Greece of his Cape Dory 28 ( An East Coast made boat not the same fabricator?) The Prop shaft was too long and with a hard rudder over he bent his prop, that was a disaster waiting to happen, would never think not to Hard Rudder over if required.

More nice work on the refit - great engineering and that varnish is looking particularly fine. A couple of questions:
What was the old blues music (Bad news blues?) playing while Aladino was working on the bowsprit.
How do you store a violin on board in that moist salty air? We'll need to be able to do this once our refit (much less extensive than yours) is complete.

@@SailingMagicCarpet That's good to know - it was the first change I made to my own boat. I went for cream as well. So many of the 'big name' youtubers (Vagabonde, Atticus and Uma) seem to have all-white decks, and I wonder about the long-term effects on their eyesight. Plus, a contrast between the deck and hull just looks nicer.
