I must admit that the traveling video's are way more attractive to me, than this endless ship renovation. But I guess that I am one of a few nagging about this :) while having more than 8.3K thumbs up.
Guys, your boat is going to look so, so exquisite when you're done. The way you have both applied yourselves, to all the tasks in hand, goes beyond commendable. When you do finally splash, no two peeps will ever have been so deserving. Blessings and Best Wishes to you both...x...
Thank you for sharing, love watching MC II get closer and closer, she looks great. Love the video, music, editing, and great job Maya for the polite standing firm on the replacement sander! You Rock!!!
have to say Alidino is a gift in his work - by Maiya is just seriously clever and talented with the music that accompanies. nothing saccharine sweet - brilliant "music score" it really adds to the production
After all the work the beauty of this old boat is showing through. Your combined craftsmanship has modernized a lovely old boat into a dependable circumnavigator, congratulations on a project well planned and executed.
We have been following you for so long and your work is so inspiring. You are an amazing team. Every episode is a delight to watch. (I especially adore Maya's musical specials)Your work ethic and meticulous attention to detail is superb. Congratulations on all this hard work, you are so close to the finish line! (I am sure you are already sailing in real time...) 🌈💪🌞👏
I’m continually impressed with how well these videos are edited, Maya! It’s one thing to do the work on the boat, it is an entirely different thing to weave the work into a compelling story. Kudos also to Aladino for stepping into the explanation part so well. Always great to hear from you both!
You guys have the patience of saints. I fully appreciate Aladino's OCD and skill. You both are so talented. This boat is going to be perfect, much improved over original. So talented.
Maya…giggled at comment about aging and becoming firm in your “old age”. Beautiful accomplishments again this week. I cannot wait for this boat to be launched … like u I’m sure. Love your music choices always. 🇨🇦 ❤
As a professional cabinetmaker I have been using a festool sander for the last 8 years. I will stick with it. The butterfly hatch on my schooner never leaked. Silicone is evil on a boat. It corrodes aluminium and you can’t paint it. You’re doing a fantastic job Alidino. Looking forward to the boat in the water.
Top notch guys. Like the Tally Ho guys, you are extremely good in teaching boat building to a really high standard, which in fact is very rare. I only hope that things are speeding up a bit. Would love to see the final result sailing in full glory
Cracked glass - gives you an opportunity to replace it by hardened laminated glass, rather than the common window panes that had been used (from the look of it). With laminated I mean two thin layers of glass with a laminate between them - many types exist. The hardening means that the worst that will happen if something falls on the glass, a chip comes off and it still is in one piece - if something notable would happen.
@@rebeccahedberg6656 - that's a good thought too. I restored an over 100 years old brick&mortar house. We replaced the wooden window frames by deeper ones that can hold insulation glazing without having to make visible adaptations on the outside. SMC could do that here easily. We used a double glazing with a heat film in it that allows heat to pass in one way but not the other. In my climate we allow heat to come in, but about one month in summer it gets incredibly hot inside. If you want thermal insulation in general you need 15mm (about 3/5 inch) of air gap. This has maximum insulation. The heat film is a metal-like coating on one side of a glass pane and it will be visible to those knowing what they are seeing. The age of this boat would not forbid using it, though. In my case, we used the laminated hardened glass in the outside glass of the insulation pair.
PET. It's has a high transmittance than glass, is basically indestructible, lower thermal conductivity and ridiculously cheap. Only downside is soft surface, so you need to be careful cleaning. I'm never using glass again
Yes, I was wondering if you have regular plate glass there, what are the chances of getting caught in big waves and one breaks over the boat and smashes the glass? The boat would get flooded pretty quickly.
@@jpdj2715 Some good points here. Tempered glass of a sufficient thickness would be able to withstand any wave and even support a person stepping on it, but it would have to be sized carefully to allow some differential expansion and contraction of the glass and the wood frame. As described, an insulating glass unit with tempered glass on the outside and laminated glass on the inside would be optimal but the seal between the glass would have to be really good.
You are both smiling much more these days -- as you should be. Your consistent hard work over the last four years is truly paying off. MC II is in better condition now than when new, no doubt. You have both persevered through all the long days, weeks and months and the high positive feedback work is here now. Good for you and wishing you every success with the remainder of the refit.
I have also watched all of your Magic Carpet II videos. Call me crazy, but the topside woodwork that was in desperate need of attention had been silently becoming my own personal pet-peeve project. My inner OCD demon is so so very relieved. It is extremely satisfying to see it being addressed. I know. It sounds crazy. Crazy, but true. BZ, you two, BZ!!!
You are doing it right! Very nice work! If you don't have time to do it right, you definitely won't have time to do it twice. Look forward to watching you every week! Old guy out.
@5 minutes, it's becoming more obvious to me that you're getting to a place where you can return to doing these videos as an art project, so I am happy for you. As a hobbyist musician, I will credit this to Maya's also getting back to her music, and the sense of mental and emotional order it gives.
To both of you, great job and I want to a special shout out to Aladino, your stage presence has greatly improved (not saying it was lacking) over the years! Please, please, keep up the hard work and - GET THAT SLIPPERY SIDE WET!
I really respect both of your attention to details, I know what it’s like to be labeled a “perfectionist “ it bothered me at one time but now it brings me satisfaction and pleasure as does watching you employ the level of perfection that satisfies you. Keep up the wonderful refit! I am in my 70’s I have done many outdoor and marine projects I am of the learned experience a supporter of penetrating epoxy on raw wood , then coats of up stabilized high quality varnish, I do like the same manufacturer you are using and have had excellent results.
That Blues thing at the beginning had me ad libbing "Apolitical Blues" by Little Feat..."Telephone is ringin', told me it was Chairman Mao, Well I just don't wanna talk to him now..."
Double glazed units would be a great idea to stop condensation dripping on you in winter. If there isn't enough thickness to deepen the rebates you can always have stepped units made
I was actually looking to buy a new sander. Unfortunately i to have lots of sanding in my future. Tell them i will now be shopping for them. Good customer service means alot. I would rather pay more for something the maker stands behind. Also helping out my favorite channel sure helps in my buying decisions .
MC’s coming back to life in leaps and bounds now, spring has sprung and you both seem so much happier for all of it. Great vid production and what an excellent soundtrack to keep it moving along. Cheers to you both and here’s to you, Cheers! R. 😎👍🍻
308th fan-follower view. Very rewarding and gratifying to finish out the parts you will see and use every day; to enjoy the work of your hands. 'Custom Home-Remodeling' never looked so good! :0) 861st LIKE posted.
Brilliant interaction when Maya got tough with the sander people! If it comes down to it, I am sure you can do a wicked 'Paddington bear very hard look!'
The lack of insulated glass in butterfly hatch would I think be most irritating in cold climates, the condensation would steadily eat away at the lovely timbers. In cold places there is still likely to be some condensation. There's another benefit and that is sound insulation, stronger and insulated glazing will keep out more of the noise of the weather.
After I read all of the wonderful comments, there is little left to say but thank you! For the education, for the wonderful music and for being tenacious!
Hi you two. Think about getting glass panels that are unbreakable like in cars (I forgot the name it has a formica film sandwich between two panes of glass), and yes sealant on the glass panels not adhesives! Also, likely too late now, but a trick with the seals for the portholes is to cut the joint at an angle so when you glue them it is like a scarf joint. You are so closed to splashing it is exciting! Yep stabilizing the wood with epoxy widely used in building knives etc. but on a spar like the bowsprit that will be under tension and torsion the epoxy might crack, unless using penetrating epoxy. Beautiful work!
Getting replacements from a company is much easier when you are an influencer and you are just that for any boat and ship builders out there. If a non influencer had tried, chances are high that they would not get a replacement, but it would take the full tie to repair before sending it back and soon enough you will get the same issue all over again. When my dad built us his 30 feet colin archer based ship, we always had that issue until y dad admitted that he was a company insurance person. After that the companies more or less threw stuff we wanted after us. So being an influencer in some way always make is easier with companies. As for leaky butterfly hatches, yes that is well known issue, so with my dad's built we had one such hatch and it was always leaky. It took us years to figure out how the water got in and it was through the hinge at the top. and from anywhere the water would collect a few drops for a short time. The only way to fix it was to use a full on other design as those butterfly hatches are horrible that way until they are redesigned from the bottom up and have some sort of water guide solution under the hinge to lead any water to the outside. Having a smooth surface is important too so all the water that hits it just flows down and away. But at that point it is no longer a butterfly hatch, but something else and would need a new name. The good news is that we now can design that horrible hatch better than ever, if we really want to and if it was me, I would have done that right away to awaked the pain of a wet bed and other annoying water results due to a leaky hatch.
Tip (not that you need it) If your under-frame hatch/b'fly frames crack open again (perhaps from iced moisture), a not-too-hard and unobtrusive solution could be to chisel in a rebate for small metal corner brackets. Inside or outside corners. This is something I'm sure you would already know though. Cheers
The boat is coming together beautifully. Nice to see you’re not rushing it(although i bet it feels like it). Love the details. That bowsprit is a gem as well…
Wowee! She's looking so Beautiful! We've got a lot of catching up to do on your vids! Keep up the fantastic work guys!
Thanks so much!!
Magic Carpet is not only Beautiful, but she is a Work of Art. Congratulations to you both 🥰
I love how Aladino made sure to low key mention the gap in the frame want his fault. He was just trying to fix it better, lol
I like your multi purpose paint mixer / bow spirit pin!
This is a brilliant episode and the music fit the story. Three cheers for "old" Canadian Lady Persistence!
IT looks beautiful the varnish end kiwi grip 👍👍
Maya, I always like your backing music selections 🙂🎶🙂

She is really coming along!!!!!
Boat is looking amazing! You'll have the nicest Cape George Cutter 36 on the planet.

Just more wow every episode !!!
Silicone was put on this earth to teach us patience.
Patience with the material itself and patience with the fools who used it.
May I agree totally?

I agree and would it make any sense to get it tempered and tinted a little to keep the cabin cool? Just a thought.

You really have a competition with Tally Ho for the best background music 😊

Things are definitely getting close, you can hear it in their voices.
Nice job team looking good. Some ideas I can use there. She is gonna be a stunner.😅
Your getting close to sailing the boat that will be great.
As always you guys never disappoint. Look forward to the next episode!!

Soon, this refit will be completed. And that's when you'll have BEST Cape George 36 on the sea! MCII will turn heads when anchored or docked!
Love the video. Good luck with the replacement Sander when it arrives. It’s your pleasant phone in the phone that did it!
Thats probably the finest Cape George ever! After following for years you are getting really close now!😁👍
excellent workmanship. great video
The boat will be better than new once finished. I tell ya.
Btw you want at least double layered glass for the butterfly to avoid condensation in the cold climate
MC’s coming back to life in leaps and bounds now, spring has sprung and you both seem so much happier for all of it.
Great vid production and what an excellent soundtrack to keep it moving along.
