Hey, everyone! Be sure to participate in the poll at the top of this video description! Genuinely curious of the outcome. ALSO, I've been working on the Season 2 finale of PCDC! It should be airing around the first week of November. Sorry for the hold-up. I've talked about this in previous videos, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to source _genuinely_ dirty systems in the Orlando, FL area. If you or someone you know has a very dirty rig in the area that you'd like cleaned for free, shoot us an email: help@salazarstudios.org - Remember that you _must_ be local. We don't accept shipments at this time. Thanks for the love!

wow I've actually learned something new. I didn't know a memory channel on cpu was bad. I've dealt with bad ram slots on mobo thinking its mobo problem so I'd just put ram in other slots where it would post.
That poll is kind of odd. I'd hate to see either series go away. It's a coin toss which is better. Isn't that the third CPU "failure" in a row for three different reasons? Quite a coinkydink.
I have a relative thats too scared to troubleshoot their system and wants to pay for a technician to that for them, even though their an IT and im willing to that for them ahahaha its so funny that the problem is just that the 4 pin connector is not connected properly
My favorite thing about this series is learning something new. I'm pretty good at troubleshooting and I don't think I would have thought of that solution. Now it's going in my toolbox of go to solutions forever.
Yeah this dude has added so many new ways for me to diagnose something but this is something i literally never would have thought of. I would have just swamped the CPU and that would have been the end of it
I have a PC with the same problem... channel B dead. I'm still using it in single channel mode. I was just too lazy to replace it on warranty when I just brought it. Right now it's just working as a media center/HTPC.
It's very simple.. nothing to be scared of.. Just follow the how to build videos from one of these yt-ers. I've done it alot of times . these days I just lay everything on the desk and just get it done in an hour (most of the one hour is spent cleaning up the packagings and tidying up the cables.. the actual components takes just a handful of minutes to put together)
this one was a curveball for sure...I did NOT expect a memory controller issue with the CPU...but this video was valuable in the troubleshooting toolbox.
*Congratulations for your upcoming PC !!* *Keep this things in mind :* Check Compatibility of your components before you buy, Make a recording of the package unboxing, Incase if you receive any damaged components then you can show that you didn't did anything, Carefully choose your components, don't over spend on features you don't need, Buy good quality PSU choose reputed brand, Buy good quality thermal paste, Always Be careful with BIOS updating read everything mentioned about it on manufacturer website carefully, Take a look at reviews of the components you selected on various websites, Take a look at Manual (gives you more information about the product), After successful build : keep proper bills and boxes, manuals,CPU socket cover (Intel motherboard has this, a plastic cover given to protect socket pins), accessories etc. This will help you if you ever need to replace any under warranty components.

Your last episode made me realize the problem I had with my PC wasn't the CPU, and it ended up being a damaged trace on the mobo that made the system bootloop if there was RAM in dual channel. Crazy how similar this video is to that problem now.
As someone who spent years fixing PCs, it's fun to diagnose along with you! I thought it was going to be a RAM issue, but not in the way things turned out! PLOT TWIST haha

It's great to see that weird stuff like this happens. You never know when it will be you who runs into this issue. I would had never thought to try the memory channels separately. Now, at least I've seen a computer break like this, and I will think about testing with only 1 memory stick, and test that stick in different slots.
I love these videos because the symptoms are often the same but the causes so different. Every time a fix or flop vid comes out, I learn something new. Thanks Greg.
I find it awesome that, usually forums, hardware threads, other TH-camrs, IT technicians, Redditors would talk about problems like this on a theoretical scale “it’s unlikely!” but graciously, we get to see these problems in practice from Greg. Actual hero.
Definitely enjoyed this one, while learning something along the way. Never in my 26 years of IT-related troubleshooting have I come across a CPU with a dead memory channel. Dead CPUs , sure, but one with a single dead channel? You sir have given me yet one more troubleshooting step to add to my repertoire.
Keep it up! I really love this series. I've learned about so many issues I've just never encountered before and I've been building my own systems for 20 years. Great job man!!!
I have been fixing computers by the side for a while now. And your videos actually helped me quite a bit, In tandem, you helped a lot of people. Love the series!
I live in south Florida and I've been fixing my friends and family's computers for a long time now and watching your videos delights me to no end because you have a spare part ready to go for testing every time and your troubleshooting process is so similar to mine so watching these videos is like * chefs kiss*. I have to order and wait for parts just to trouble shoot. Theres only been one PC in about 10 years i havent fixed and its either the motherboard or processor but not only do i not have the EQ or much money to spare for parts to TS with, but i don't even have a proper workbench in my house to work comfortably with since i have a son now. keep up the amazing content!
True that, I had a cpu that would post but would die in the lock screen in Windows, uninstalled, tried to reinstall, would fail upon restarting, would also fail with other OSes, swapped the board, still fucked, swapped the cpu, ...fine? It's one thing to have a dead CPU or some dead channels but a partially functioning CPU is just weird man
When I first started in Computers an experienced IT guy told me the first thing you should always try because it causes more issues than most and is the easiest thing to check is to CHECK RAM FIRST. Always try each memory module first down to 1 channel then try 2 if that works. Saves more time than you can imagine.
THIS. It's outstanding what just... Reseating the ram can do. If that doesn't work, move to testing individual dimms and slots. It's my go to whenever I start troubleshooting a nopost
pretty impressive that you were able to figure it out. it was staring us right in the face, but ill guarantee none of us would've thought of this. big props for figuring this one out.
Wow, what a weird issue. I appreciate that you traced it all the way to that memory channel, I had no idea a CPU could behave like that with multi-channel memory if there is a fault. Great learning experience for everyone!
After the last few videos, my new game is going to be to take a shot each time Greg tries to power on a system with the power button disconnected haha.
This video was very interesting. Really digging into this series, found a PCDC video first and have been really enjoying fix or flop. Learning a lot watching these. Thanks!

WOW well done on this one, this would have boggled my mind, the fact you happened to have the working channel to start with and still figured this out is very impressive.
Yes definitely I have learned something from this video and so I thank you, I have never seen this issue before this video and I realized how something like this could be overlooked and end up with buying a lot of unnecessary parts just to fix it. Keep it up!
that sucks! & it's not a small FPS drop it's a pretty significant drop when you only run single channel on a ryzen CPU. i've seen it tested and in some games you lose a lot of performance because of the single channel instead of dual channel.
for me, back when I had my i5 8400 a few years ago, I didn't know much about PC hardware back then, and only got 1 stick of memory (only 2400mhz at that) and any demanding game had significant stuttering and much lower frame rate than what I would've expected. I didn't notice a problem when I still had my GTX 960 2gb, but when I got my GTX 1080, thats when the difference starts to show. I got a second identical stick of memory and the problem was solved :) I would probably use this faulty 3600 in a day-to-day work PC/office PC, pop in a cheap GPU and sell it at a discounted price (due to the faulty memory channel). still a perfectly usable CPU, but I wouldn't use it in a gaming PC.
For a CPU going bad being rare, this is happening for a 2nd time recently in this playlist. @@GregSalazar fair enough 😁 just wanted to share that tidbit of information with the viewers and that cpu I'm speaking of was jacked up to lol cleaned it of thoroughly boy lol she came right back I was honestly surprised myself
actually usually what causes a cpu to loose a channel of memory is memory being plugged in with out discharging the board and then trying to insert the memory, causing a short .. been my experience of that happening.
It's super important when taking out a pc for cleaning or anything else to always power it off. Press the power button multiple times after it's been unplugged and just simply wait 2-3mins for any lil current that could still be flowing. Its usually what causes motherboards and other delicate parts to fry.
@@Lonzology that is what i usually do, weather cleaning moving parts around or changing parts, i find on motherboards with a light, if you press and hold power button down, after turning off the power supply the light will go out. basically suck the power supply dry. lol
Superior diagnostic work Greg! That was a first for me and a textbook description of it's never the CPU until it is. Keep making these great learning episodes as I always pick up something new from each one.
Greg, Thank You! I'm learning so much more from your fix or flop playlist, that's amazing! I would never have come across the Dead memory channel, I would have probably assumed that the entire CPU is dead. Thanks to you i can also help many of my friends if they have problems. Before your playlist, I had little idea about Trubble Shootin. Before that, I was also able to build / assemble PCs, but that there are so many different aspects in the area of trubble shootiung amazes me every time with every video in the playlist. Keep it up, greetings from Germany c:
This is a fun series to watch. I like comparing what you do - with what I might have done. Even though I've transitioned from fixing PC's to a network related IT career.
I've been watching the Fix or Flop series since episode one, and it's teaching me quite a bit about troubleshooting PC problems. I'm wanting to eventually go into business for myself as a PC builder and repairman, and these videos are a good teaching tool for an amateur like me. Keep them coming, Greg!

Oh boy, here's another of those awesome videos and perfectly timed for my breakfast as well. Thank you for the video, always entertaining and I'm even learning things to check out here and there when it's time for my own PC to die a confusing death. Stay awesome!
Greg, great video as always! I remember when you had like 20K subs, and you were building a rig to McLovin with an AMD FX83xx.. Keep the good content going!
Thank you for posting this video. I have what appears to be a similar problem in a build with a 1700x and have something new to try for troubleshooting. I would have NEVER considered a memory channel failure in the CPU. Great video.
After swapping the 1700X for a 1600, everything seems to now be working fine. I'll test the 1700X in another board to make sure, but I never would have considered only part of a CPU failing. Thanks again for the video.
@GregSalazar That was an excellent video. Logical, it flowed and a good find in the end. Even I was abit stumped and I've been tinkering/building PC's since 97. P1 133 days
That long delay where the fans are off, during your first power-on attempt: that's mostly memory timing training. I believe it precedes POST, which is why there weren't any beeps from the speaker. You'll very rarely encounter this outside of memory overclocking, but it's a symptom to keep at the back of your mind.
Greg, I think this show is amazing. I do IT for the federal government, and while we don't use towers. I never knew that hardware could be so complex...You do an excellent job...I am now a subscriber

actually usually what causes a cpu to loose a channel of memory is memory being plugged in with out discharging the board and then trying to insert the memory, causing a short .. been my experience of that happening.
It's super important when taking out a pc for cleaning or anything else to always power it off. Press the power button multiple times after it's been unplugged and just simply wait 2-3mins for any lil current that could still be flowing. Its usually what causes motherboards and other delicate parts to fry.
@@Lonzology that is what i usually do, weather cleaning moving parts around or changing parts, i find on motherboards with a light, if you press and hold power button down, after turning off the power supply the light will go out. basically suck the power supply dry. lol
Been watching series in order and this is a new one. Best instruction videos i've ever seen.
I had plenty of wierd issues flipping PCs but never this one! Great video
quickly becoming my new fav series.
Your videos are so informative. For someone not to learn anything from watching them, it would just mean they weren't paying attention.
Superior diagnostic work Greg! That was a first for me and a textbook description of it's never the CPU until it is. Keep making these great learning episodes as I always pick up something new from each one.
This series is such a boom to my PC hardware knowledge ❤️🔥
Greg, Thank You!
I'm learning so much more from your fix or flop playlist, that's amazing!
I would never have come across the Dead memory channel, I would have probably assumed that the entire CPU is dead.
Thanks to you i can also help many of my friends if they have problems.
Before your playlist, I had little idea about Trubble Shootin. Before that, I was also able to build / assemble PCs, but that there are so many different aspects in the area of trubble shootiung amazes me every time with every video in the playlist.
Keep it up, greetings from Germany c:
This issue is new for me, never seen this coming! Great work again Greg. Very very cool.
These are my absolute favorite videos on TH-cam.
pls keep this series up forever!
:-D
You are doing a fine job, it would be nice to have someone in the uk giving a service like you are.
ive been thinking out going back to school and starting a similar business and your series is teaching me a lot thanks!
Always beautiful seeing A new Fix or Flop episode as usual
A ton of glare off that TV on the wall. Nice video. Good work.
My go to series when I encounter problems, keep up the great work
Never ever have heard of such an issue, and I am very glad I watched this video!
I hope you could maintain both your playlists and have enough content for both!
Have a good day!
Great diagnostics. Great feeling of accomplishment on that I bet. And great experience. Bet you’ll check that sooner now on a similar issue.
It's always a pleasure to follow your process. 🖖🏻🤓
Great diagnosis Greg.
Glad I found your channel really enjoy watching your show . Str8 to the point no messing around ......as soon as I get a GPU I can start my build confident if I run in to a problem I will be able to solve it after watching lost if your repairs
This is one of your best FoF!
Thank you very much Greg,
This was the problem I had for the past week
This FoF series is The *MUST DO* thing. Pls pls continue and focus on this.
I have learned so much from you. Thanks 3K from me.
#GodBlessYou
Cable management it top notch, really weird to see that memory channel dead but good to look out for. Thanks for the educational video! Keep up the good work!!
I learn soo many things by your videos man,
great phenominal job man!
Oh boy, here's another of those awesome videos and perfectly timed for my breakfast as well. Thank you for the video, always entertaining and I'm even learning things to check out here and there when it's time for my own PC to die a confusing death.
Stay awesome!
Really cool content. Very entertaining. Also that porsche looked amazing 😮
Greg, you're honestly a hero or something. 😁
Greg, great video as always!
I remember when you had like 20K subs, and you were building a rig to McLovin with an AMD FX83xx..
Keep the good content going!
These videos are always a great learning experience for a computer builder like me. Thanks Greg!
Thisn series is so entertaining and educational. Awesome job digging out the cause of the issue. I've never seen that before.
There’s something therapeutic about watching these fix videos…
@GregSalazar That was an excellent video. Logical, it flowed and a good find in the end. Even I was abit stumped and I've been tinkering/building PC's since 97. P1 133 days
That long delay where the fans are off, during your first power-on attempt: that's mostly memory timing training. I believe it precedes POST, which is why there weren't any beeps from the speaker.
You'll very rarely encounter this outside of memory overclocking, but it's a symptom to keep at the back of your mind.
Don't think we didn't see that Porsche! Dude is STACKIN'.
It was another VERY VALUABLE lesson Greg👍 Great video, thank you very much!
Again, really interesting troubleshooting step that most would overlook. Great video.
Greg, I think this show is amazing. I do IT for the federal government, and while we don't use towers. I never knew that hardware could be so complex...You do an excellent job...I am now a subscriber
I am genuinely enjoying this series! Way to go Greg!
Great content Greg! I have learned a lot watching your videos! Every time I build a new rig, I don’t worry about not being able to figure out how to troubleshoot it! Keep making great content!
only greg can diagnose and troubleshoot things like that with ease .. thanks greg XD
This episode is kind of interesting for me Greg and also thanks for keep helping us like that. Keep it up mate. 💕
