For the most part, he did an excellent job as mercer but I wouldnt go this far. The original Va was emotional both in voice acting and in actually making us believe he is a crazy fanatic. His death was completely out of character in the remake. We cant even deny his ascension like in the original. This new version is good but he lacks the crazy screams and the biblical-like speeches like the original, something that is core to the character.

Dr. Mercer was more sinister in the original game when he stabbed Jacob right into his head. (When I saw that scene for the first time in a video game, it literally creeped me out.) I still like him in the remake, but they should have kept his death the same when he sacrifices his own life for an Infector.

I think they'll always be a part of DS no matter what, I read somewhere that one of the writters and franchise leads said that when he wrote the Necromorph's lore the Brethren Moons where a part of it from the beginning

Well his death is different in the remake compared to the original at least he got what was coming to him and he gotten to play larger role In the remake plus they improve the story quite a lot with more dialogue and stuff like that
Mercer is one of those Vilians who you end up hating because he is responsible for killing most survivors on the USG Ishimura due to his level of Dementia.

@@420OngBak while that sounds actually pretty neat for that to happen, it’s sadly unlikely. As he gets carried away, you hear what sounds like a harsh crunch and Mercer’s body goes limp. Even if he didn’t, he was likely to be killed later and either be apart of the corruption or turned into a slave or fused with something else. And even after all that, the marker was destroyed and because of it, the necromorphs became inactive, or their organic sludge until a shard or marker signal is introduced.
I think he's a near improvement aside from his death scene. In the original he accepts his death and you could prevent him from turning if you kill the infector in time denying him of what he wanted. Aside from that he's a complete upgrade since you see how insane he is. A small thing I like that they added was him using Stasis because it felt like only Issac had access to it.
I am reminded of why the 1st two dead space games were incredible. The foreboding silence broken by the occasional encounter of a screeching necromorph ambushing you. Part three was a complete opposite. It was like a necromorph Zombie hack n' slash pretending to be a resident evil 5 clone.

@@ryanhowe5753 Yes definitely. Like Mercer could have been the one to teach Earthgov how to extract the Marker codes from Isaac's brain. Mercer could also have been the one to help the Church of Unitology sabotage the Marker restraints and Mercer could also have let the necromorphs into EarthGov instead of Isaac (I always thought that part in DS2 was out of character). Mercer also could have tricked Tideman into terminating the key subjects so they can be absorbed and trigger a convergence event. Mercer could also become an epic boss fight if he is turned into a necromorph. Even an after credit scene could be that frozen necromorphs were brought to Earth by Mercer for "study" and make something different for a DS3 remake. I just think there is a lot of potential to allow Mercer the chance to be more of an actual antagonist and improve DS2's story.

Had to look this up because of Mercer being invisible in my game. Specifically for the cutscene at 12 mins, both Mercer and the other employee were invisible for me. I reloaded a save and Mercer became visible, but still couldn't see the other guy. Very odd bug.

He was a better villain in the original because he was just an insane believer but in this they make it out that he's some mastermind and grand manipulation, he gets violent and angry and moans like a toddler but in the original when we meet him he's so insane that he's as calm and collected as can be
No joke. I've had to watch this video because the scene in chapter 10, I legit can only see Issac. Everything is like Issac is talking to himself so I had no idea what Mercer did or said in the scene. Just Issac talking to thin air and blood appearing. I was so confused. Thank you for this video.
My cutscene was broken. Mercer and Temple were missing, no dialogues from Mercer - and no Hunter spawned - so I got free range to loot the scene with impunity... ...plus a very awkward silence from Isaac.
I don’t think Mercer is actually dead. You don’t hear any flat line and the death itself just seems “bloodless” for a villain such as him. As it’s not really relieving for the player to experience. Could Mercer be appearing a potential Dead space 2 remake? That would be interesting. To have a villain from 1, follow Issac to the next game.
It's most likely he did die since he did die in the original (it's just done offscreen). But having him back for the Dead Space 2 remake would actually be a pretty good twist.
There had been some deaths shown in the remake that didn’t let off a flatline, including Jacob and Captain Mathius. And I like to think that Mercer’s fate was quite fitting, since he begged to be made “whole,” prompting a tentacle to pull the Marker away with Mercer. This is what I believe the Marker’s way of saying: “You want to be whole. Now *this* is your reward.”
As much as I really like the new Mercer in this remake. I kinda wish they kept the part where he willingly allows himself to become a necromorph & you wrecking him after all the mischief he caused for Issac. I always thought that part was satisfying to play out. The new scene is fine but I preferred the OG death of Mercer still..
A lot of the og death's are better imo. Love the remake. Just need to beat impossible mode to platinum it. But Hammond, Temple, Mercers death are better in the original.

Honestly I feel like a plasma only run is the easiest way to play the game because the game will consistently spawn plasma ammo if it's the only thing you have equipped. But I just love my contact beam too much to abandon it in impossible lol

I ended up using all the weapons in this remake this time & holy crap was it fun. Definitely gonna upgrade the contact beam on my NG+ run. It kinda feels like A Dead space version of a Doom BFG in a way lol especially that secondary fire mode

I'm out here freaking the fuck out firing the contact beam only for a stream of energy to just start lighting them up 😂😂. My favourite gun to use in close encounters. My first playthrough I used plasma gun, rifle, contact beam, and line gun. On the second I'm using ripper, force gun, flamethrower, and plasma gun again. What's your favourite gun?
Had to watch this cause the first major glitch I encountered was that none of the models loaded in for the scene where he kills Jacob. Even the Hunter didn’t load in so I didn’t have to fight it.
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer makes sense, all of the side quests and voice logs add more context and weight to the struggles each of the supporting characters faced prior to the ship being fucked. Most of this stuff was in various text and voice logs but most of this info would go over gamers heads if they weren't paying attention while playing the 2008 game.

One thing I liked about Mercer killing Temple in the og was when you entered the room you actually found a female already killed at the feet of Jacob temple, and it was pretty obvious it was Elizabeth Cross without outright telling you it was. One thing I do like about this remake for better or worse is it doesn't feel like it makes the og obsolete. Just expands around it and alters some things but you can still find reason to go back to the original.
It sucks we can’t even kill him at the end… unlike in the first game (but as a necromorph) 😢 that’s like the only thing I sorta dislike about the Remake

In his logs he made a custom-built stasis device using some rare ore that was stolen by Harris from the mining deck. You can upgrade your stasis unit with his if you do the sidequest.

Most of this stuff was in various text and voice logs but most of this info would go over gamers heads if they weren't paying attention while playing the 2008 game.
@@BetaBreaking True, though I appreciated the subtleties in the og of not telling the whole story. One thing I liked about Mercer killing Temple in the og was when you entered the room you actually found a female already killed at the feet of Jacob temple, and it was pretty obvious it was Elizabeth Cross without outright telling you it was. One thing I do like about this remake for better or worse is it doesn't feel like it makes the og obsolete. Just expands around it and alters some things but you can still find reason to go back to the original.

i came for the cutscene because there was a glitch were the characters didnt load in same as their lies,so it look like he was talking to himself
Sucks too hear about these glitches from so many people. Missing these highlights is criminal on the developers part. Not good enough, I played on PS5 n was fine. Was it PC by any chance?

my cutscene @11:17 was glitched so I had to look it up. Mercer or Temple wasn't showing up at all. I play on pc and even a reload didn't work.

In his logs he made a custom-built stasis device using some rare ore that was stolen by Harris from the mining deck. You can upgrade your stasis unit with his if you do the sidequest.

@@Saaahdood I don't mind upgrade stuff because that's just gameplay mechanics, I dislike how they ruined the art design, character, voice acting and actors, characters are ruined in every sense, weapons have less impact and are just meh.... Necromorphs running towards you are more funny because they bobble towards you like spooky skeletons than mutilated monsters
