The way things are going at the moment in Britain, I'd feel a LOT SAFER if there were checkpoints like this.

I think many of us have to reluctantly agree.
The asylum system is being used by economic migrants. In the vast majority of cases,
they cannot be defined as refugees under the intent of the 1951 asylum set up.
Originally, this system was designed to deal with people displaced during the second world war. The mistake was not giving it suitable revisions after that post war period had settled.
There will come a time when the decision has to be made to stop this tide of illegals.
It will be difficult. It will involve western nations having to ignore human suffering.
It has been caused by past decisions, made by western leaders who could not see the implications for the future, of what they eere doing in the moment.

We are not self sufficient, and so many things are failing due to underfunding, political changes and just out of date by current standards. Much as we might want to accommodate others seeking asylum we can only take so many. Tax payers are not an endless resource, push the limits too far and something will break. Taking this country and it’s residents for granted, whilst believing we owe an historic debt for colonialism will be the proverbial straw that breaks the camels back

What about the legal aid bill, with multiple appeals over several years. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a million each minimum. British tax payers who work have no access to legal aid although we are the mugs funding it.

Let us see the cost if GBP 1500 is paid to them per month for one year. 68000x1500 per month x12 months = GBP 1.22 billion.... Once their claims are accepted they are moved out of the hotels and into housing, in a housing crisis, many are going to be homeless, and the councils have to pick up the bill not the government anymore
