"Dead Man's Party" is a Halloween classic! Always got this one in HEAVY rotation every October. These guys will always be the ultimate "fun 80's band" to me (rivaled only by maybe The B-52's). Just impossible to be in a bad mood after listening to some Oingo Boingo. Always loved how they blended so many different genres together, and they had one of the best horn sections around. Jack Skelington himself... Danny Elfman. THE Halloween band. This song is played during the film "Back to School" w/ Rodney Dangerfield and Robert Downey Jr. My favorite from Oingo Boingo is "No One Lives Forever."
They were orchestral. They melded punk, pop, disco, funk, and anything else they could use to make an interesting song. I loved this band despite them being a bit too pop because they were just flat out brilliant. It didn't surprise me that he went on to be a brilliant composer for movies and, of course, the theme song for The Simpsons.
I was just kidding. That would be impossible for that to do that alone. But a country music where I'm in no doubt could do it. I was country girls hey all day😅😅😅😅
I'm on top of dairy dog go from whipping it good to country to blue grass to something folk and then I hit the motel but I like it all except I don't really know the biggest rap fan. I might be like 1 or 2 songs. Maybe better I like about all the music
Yes, a killer band! Danny Elfman's band Oingo Boingo was awesome. This song's horns in concert are a site to behold.A party favorite! The horns for them are great, along with guitarist Steve Bartek. Danny Elfman is a genius! A soundtrack god! Pee Wee Herman movies, The Simpsons, Wisdom, Midnight Run, Black Beauty, Batman, and projects by Tim Burton.
I went to high school with their drummer, John Hernandez, here in California. I was very glad that he found success in the music world, and especially with this band. Still wish him all the best!
Oingo Boingo is such a great 80s band! You can't go wrong with "Just Another Day," "Home Again," "Gray Matter," "Stay" and "Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me."
Don't forget "Who Do You Want To Be Today?", "Nasty Habits" and their first hit "Only A Lad". Being teachers, I wonder how many "little Johnny's" they have come across.
The beat and tempo of this tune is the main reason it’s on my running playlist. When this comes on, the energy is undeniable and you just can’t stop running.
As everyone has mentioned, the Oscar winner Danny Elfman is behind this brilliant band! You need to listen AND watch Weird Science next. It is one of the most known songs from the band and it is associated with my absolute favorite 1980's movie! It is funny, light-hearted and I know you two will enjoy it!!
This is one of my favorite songs ever! I absolutely adore Oingo Boingo. Danny Elfman is Tim Burton’s muse. He creates some of the best soundtracks in the history of films. He’s a legend!
Jay/Amber, you'll love their ""Stay", "Ain't This The Life" and "Weird Science"!! edit -Their singer/songwriter Danny Elfman also was a composer for major motion pictures!
Danny elfman is the one who is responsible for the theme song to The Simpsons! He is a great great musical mastermind madman! I do believe he also made a movie or two back in the seventies... I know he was responsible for music and movies but I think he also wrote a movie but I'm not sure about that
Boingo's sound changed dramatically over the years. You compare "Only A Lad" to "Dark At the End of the Tunnel" and you'd not think they were the same band. It just shows Danny's progression in music and has maturity. It also echoes his move into movie scores. You'll hear elements in many songs that made it into his film scores.
I feel sad y'all will most likely never get to see this song played live as the first song of an encore set. I remember getting chills when they took the stage and instead of leading off with the guitar riff, all of a sudden, the horn section breaks the silence with a pop of that main horn riff and then a pregnant pause before the guitars... The crowd just all absolutely losing our minds... easily one of my favorite concert memories
Thanks for coming back to Oingo Boingo. They are one of my favorite bands all-time. I saw them in concert multiple times back in the 80s-90s. As others have suggested, you should try Only a Lad, Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me, Private Life, Grey Matter, Weird Science, Goodbye-Goodbye, We Close Our Eyes, It Only Makes Me Laugh, Who Do You Want To Be, Elevator Man and many more. A piece of trivia, Danny Elfman, the lead singer, did the singing voice for Jack Skellington in A Nightmare Before Christmas.
New Wave! Oingo Boingo! Kind of ska too, they always played horns. Popular song played at Halloween parties. Lot of new wave has heavy bass guitars, dance music. "Weird Science" is another video thats good. Their songs comes on lots of movies in the '80s and '90s.
Ever since I first heard this song, I've wanted this played as the last song at my wake. Get people up and dancing and singing with a positive attitude towards death. Make them go home smiling and laughing in memory of me.
@@VicMikesvideodiary Ya. I've seen them a few times. Last show was off the wall. They ended up doing "We Close Our Eyes" twice back to back. Danny was getting emotional during the last song. Only A Lad.
Loved this group since first hearing them in Dangerfield's film Back to School, then a few days later a friend got their album. One of my favorite 80's hidden gem bands, as they never really blew up main stream
This song is featured in the movie Back to School, with the band performing it at a big dorm party. They also did the theme song for Weird Science. Danny does a lot of movie scores, probably most notably with the 1989 Batman soundtrack.
I was very shy in college so whenever I attended a party I tended to hang out with one or two close friends on the periphery. The only time I would ever get up enough nerve to actually join the party and dance was when Oingo Boingo was played. There was something about that beat that I found nearly irresistible. I even had a girl friend that was also shy but also shared my attraction to this band's music, so she and I would always find each other when the music started and just basically bounce around on the dance floor.
I love to see you two who are the age of my grandchildren to open up and enjoy the fabulous songs of my youth. I truly believe the music scene was a mass of creativity then and it's nice to see you both resurrect that talent
This song is fire. Should be played at every Halloween party. 🎃 Somebody probably already said this, but the lead singer Danny Elfman went on to score TV and films, including The Simpsons and most of Tim Burton’s films. Think of Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc. It all fits. Semi-comedic and creepy at the same time.
My favorite Oingo Boingo song because of that bass! The perfect Halloween song and mixes so well with any Tim Burton animated movie. Such a danceable song! The production of this song! It's no wonder Danny Elfman writes movie soundtracks as well! Watch the live version with the synced dancing on stage.
The drummer is Johnny Vatos and singer Danny Elfman the singer who did the soundtracks for all the Tim Burton movies and he is Jack from Nightmare before Christmas!
"Only a Lad", "Whole Day Off", "Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me". A few of MY favorites. THIS song is featured in a live performance, in the Rodney Dangerfield movie "Back to School".
This song is such a party! They even appeared to play it in the Rodney Dangerfield movie Back To School. You guys would LOVE that movie!! As a Potterhead, I totally thought of this song when I was reading about Nearly Headless Nick had his death day party, not to mention the dancing football players with Lydia at the end of Beetlejuice. Love you guys! {{{hugs}}}
Trivia Fact: The frontman for Oingo Boingo was Danny Elfman. He was told in the late '80s that he had inoperable throat problems, which would only get worse if he kept singing. So, he switched careers, and is now an accomplished film composer.
"Not my slave" "Violent love" "On the Outside" "Try to Believe" are personal favourites with great horns and sax solo's as your next potential option. Be sure to listen to the Boingo Alive album versions
I really find it odd that oingo boingo, 40 years or so is having another moment, fantastic band by every measure you can use..I saw them around’89-‘90 and of all the bands I’ve ever seen, to include the Stones, the Who, AC/DC, and a lot more, they were my favorite LIVE!! Not hyperbole, just a truly amazing concert I will never, ever forget
My favorite group, this album came out in the mid-eighties when I was in college. I loved their EP with Only a Lad and Little Girls and their unnamed album with Grey Matter and Private Life which came out while I was in high school. Danny Elfman is a genious.
Man I would be so mad at not having Oingo Boingo around anymore, but thanks to Danny Elfman doing all that composing for movies and TV shows.Especially for the Simpsons theme.
I just love the music creativity of the 80's, and Oingo Boingo was at the forefront. This entire album "Dead Man's Party" is just incredible- Just Another Day, Dead Man's Party, and of course their biggest hit, Weird Science. Such an enjoyable listen from beginning to end!
Hearing this takes me back! Waiting for this to be followed by “Don’t Let’s Start” by They Might Be Giants, “Devil Inside” by Inxs, “Mexican Radio” by Wall of Voodoo and “Never Say Never” by Romeo Void !!!
@@Proud.American58 You said you were waiting for this song to be _followed by_ ...., and INXS is in the list. I thought that meant you wanted them to react to it.
I went to every Boingo concert from the Greek Theater in 84 when my buddy John Avila joined the band as the bassist until the Farewell at the Universal in 94. It was one hell of a decade of Halloween fun! Danny and his crew were truly amazing.
Every time I hear this song I laugh. Don't get me wrong it's a total banger. This song was featured in the movie "Back to School" a classic 80's movie and "Oingo Boingo" performs it, you need to check out. Well, I won't reveal too much but a certain "Iron Man" actor is one of the stars of this movie when he was much younger. Let's just say he performs a humorous reaction to this song.
I also like Riders on the Storm by the Doors and Spy In the House of Love by Was Not Was. This Masquerade by the Carpenters is jazzy. Very different from what you'd expect. Hijack by Herbie Mann from around 1975 is disco and jazz flute as well. Rio de Janeiro Blue by Richard Torrance is the best version of that song. Also with jazz flute. Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward and Your Wildest Dreams by the Moody Blues are among the best songs about lost love IMHO. A really cool song that most people have never heard is White Bird by It's A Beautiful Day. The opening sounds like a guitar but it's a guy plucking violin strings.
Saw them In Vegas for their second to last live performance - still the greatest live performance I have ever seen. They played for hours -311 opened for them and I still talk about how great this show was. You guys missed an amazing live band.
I enjoy how macabre this is; it gets played in October for Halloween time in my house. Danny Elfman had really good range with his deep lows and strong highs; he's got some hefty pipes there. I also enjoyed his singing in "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (actor Chris Sarandon, the sexy vampire in "Fright Night" from '85, was the speaking voice for Jack Skellington, if memory serves).
OMG! When this song would start at the concerts, everyone would go wild!!! Boingo concerts were so energetic. You definitely should have gone with the live version they did on their farewell tour in 1995. So many great memories of going to their concerts.
I'll always remember my introduction to Oingo Boingo. There's a scene in the movie "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield. The movie is worth checking out alone, but the scene was at a house party and the band that was playing, was Oingo Boingo. Funny enough, it was also this song being featured.
Great reaction guys ! I've seen Oingo Boingo about a dozen times with my family and friends including their Farewell show in 96 with my 14 year old daughter. Everybody is on their feet the whole show and sing along... Kind of like Dead fans in their loyalty
Oingo Boingo was one of those AMAZING bands from the late 80's that really didnt catch on in the rest of the country - Southern California LOVED the band but I know lots of folks from all over who'd never heard of them. Danny Elfman, would of course, find incredible later success as a movie soundtrack writer (often collaborating on many of Tim Burton's projects) Glad you've given them a second try and found the love.
Hooray! I am so glad you decided to listen to Oingo Boingo again! THIS is awesome! Glad to see enjoyed this song too! Danny Elfman is the lead singer of Oingo Boingo, he's the awesome voice you hear. Oingo Boingo's genre varies from Rock, New wave, Ska, Alternative rock, Jazz, Post-punk, etc. They have a wonderful arrangement of instruments in their band, and I love their brass section! When I was younger, I had the opportunity to see them perform live in concert and they were all amazing! Danny Elfman also became a composer for the musical scores for movies and television shows too. "Beetlejuice", "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", "The Simpson's", "Batman (1989) movie", "Edward Scissor Hands", "Dick Tracy", "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "Scrooged" and so much more! If I remember correctly as far back their album that came out in 1980 "Oingo Boingo" it had Songs like "Ain't This the Life", "I'm so Bad", "Violent Love" and "Only a Lad" We heard all those songs on the radio, but they're not played so much anymore. The only songs we hear on the radio these days in southern California is this song, "Dead Man's Party" as if it is the only song they have on their playlist, or "Weird Science" from the movie with the same name. We also bought their "Only A Lad" album that came out in 1981 and that had some cool music to listen to as well! As you can see from the other comment there are so many other good songs they sang and I do hope you give them another listen to and react to them some more. Enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕
Watching you both bouncing in your seats and grin with amazement, enjoying one of my top two favorite 80s bands from my youth makes this 57 year old Gen-Xer’s heart smile! Thank you! 👍🏼😎❤️🙏🏼
I saw this concert in the mid-80s at Long Beach Arena on New Years Eve with The Specials. What an incredible show with a horn section onstage with both bands. We did not sit down for the entire concert!
YES!! I remember rockin' to these guys back in my younger years. Still love them! This is an awesome tune, but guys... PLEASE be sure to check out another banger from the same album called "Stay". I love the line "if we get through one more night". His intonation when he sings "through". Fabulous! Jot that down and check it out ASAP. Always a treat watching you every day, Jay & Amber. Greetings from chilly Eastern Canada.
Pee wee Herman was a huge fan of oingo boingo and suggested to Tim Burton for him to do the score for Pee-wee's Big adventure. Both of their first movies
You have got to watch Weird Science - a great 80's movie and they perform the theme song!! And the movie that this song was is was Back to School - a VERY funny comedy about a Father going to college with his son.
And then over at the other end of the Oingo Boingo spectrum, there's "We Close Our Eyes," a lovely love song. I need to add it to my Valentine's Day playlist.
I spent years loving and praying for soldier. I dealt with the night terrors, verbal and physical abuse and all I wanted, all I BEGGED him for was to get help. I wanted to help him so much but I couldn't. I failed. I gave him the ultimatum, get help or I'm done. He never did so after 5 years I left. I hear he's been in several relationships since and I'm happily married to a wonderful man. To all the veterans dealing with PTSD, please remember, you are not alone. You are not weak. It takes the strength of a warrior to ask for help. Please do it for yourself and the people that love you.
I completely ignored Oingo Boingo in the 80s and 90s, all the while delighting in all the movie themes contrived by Danny Elfman over the years. This year, I decided to screen all the Oingo Boingo albums and was astonished at the depth of talent and musicality of he and his band. They were so good! Their live performances were ultra-tight, always on time and in perfect key. You have to read the history of the band to fully understand why they produced the kind of music they came out with. Basically, it started out as a cabaret troupe and then transformed into a punk-ska-alternative band. Fantastic song!
On New Year's Eve every year my friends and I play "Auld Lang Syne", followed by "Dead Man's Party" and then ending with Oingo Boingo's "No One Lives Forever", the lyrics to which end in a toast to how short life is and the need to celebrate it while you still can. And it's with that toast that we toast the new year.
Danny Elfman is a musical genius! He writes scores for huge movies now. Very successful, lots of Tim Burton scores are his, most actually, if not all. Anyways they were so much fun to dance to in the 80’s!!
You guys made the right choice in deciding to give Oingo Boingo another chance! I've been a fan since 1983, when they were still pretty much a "locals only" band, playing Southern California shows at bars, county fairs, and Magic Mountain, in Valencia. Their happy, bouncy, eclectic sound, along with their dark, twisted, and thought- provoking lyrics soon brought their fame to a national and international level. The band broke up in 1995, when singer Danny Elfman's film composing started taking up most of his time. Elfman, has scored most of Tim Burton's films, some of the Spider-man movies, and lots more movies. Oingo Boingo songs with music videos include "Private Life", " Nothing Bad Happens To Me", "Stay", " Weird Science", "Out of Control", and "Insanity".
Just think that the lead singer went from this to be one of the greatest movie score composers of the modern era.
And what is even more amazing is Danny Elfman never had ANY music lessons and was actually told in High School that he had no Musical Talent. Proof that you follow your dreams, things can happen👍

I was just kidding. That would be impossible for that to do that alone. But a country music where I'm in no doubt could do it. I was country girls hey all day😅😅😅😅
But I gotta admit. I like to whip it every now and then. Evernote on land brothers are all due for it but😅😅😅😅
Yeah, what I do is offer it a good ha ha ha ha ha that's Dave o'brother Dev o, the video is good for the whip it by Dave. O😊
I'm on top of dairy dog go from whipping it good to country to blue grass to something folk and then I hit the motel but I like it all except I don't really know the biggest rap fan. I might be like 1 or 2 songs. Maybe better I like about all the music
My favorite off this album is "Just Another Day". Perfect album for Halloween.
Yes, love the song.
Great one. Another fave off this one is No One Lives Forever.
Live version is awesome. So much energy and swagger.
The man behind the music of “Nightmare Before Christmas.” And the singing voice of Mr. Jack Skelington himself.
Love Midnight Run!
didn't he also do Men in Black?
A perfect Halloween song. Danny Elfman, an Academy Award Winning musician.❤️
Love Danny Elfman! ❤
he's been nominated 4x but he's hasn't won one
I went to high school with their drummer, John Hernandez, here in California. I was very glad that he found success in the music world, and especially with this band. Still wish him all the best!
Oingo Boingo is such a great 80s band! You can't go wrong with "Just Another Day," "Home Again," "Gray Matter," "Stay" and "Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me."
Just another day is IMO their best song. I can listen to that all day.
Don't forget "Who Do You Want To Be Today?", "Nasty Habits" and their first hit "Only A Lad". Being teachers, I wonder how many "little Johnny's" they have come across.
Elevator Man!
The beat and tempo of this tune is the main reason it’s on my running playlist. When this comes on, the energy is undeniable and you just can’t stop running.
BANGER of a song ... Oingo Boingo takes me back to college and grad school ...
Absolutely agree!
Danny elfman is the one who is responsible for the theme song to The Simpsons! He is a great great musical mastermind madman!
I do believe he also made a movie or two back in the seventies... I know he was responsible for music and movies but I think he also wrote a movie but I'm not sure about that
Stay is one of my faves.
Yes yes yes yes yes please
Speaking of weird science amber and Jay should watch that movie 🍿 freaking hilarious 🤣🤣🤣✌️
80s flashback! GREAT SONG. Elfman and Oingo Boingo were wild when they cam out with this.
A classic of a record. Chaos all over the place, funky, a brass section and outrageous lyrics.
This is an ultimate party song. Play this and everyone dances HARD to it.
This song is an absolute MUST for any Halloween party playlist!
I hear this song and "Back to School" immediately comes mind. I should watch that tonight.
This song was played at EVERY high school and college aged party and club in the late 80’s. An 80’s gem and still played on retro stations
And into early ‘90s too. I was in college ‘88 to ‘92 and this was played at so many parties.
Great song. Reminds me of Rodney Dangerfields movie; Back to school.
Totally! Happy to see J and Amber reacted to this one! Watching Back to School isn't a bad idea either!
We close our eyes (live version from farewell tour) my favorite song of all time. Danny Elfman is a musical genius
Love growing up listening to Oingo Boingo! Great hits!
"Weird Science" was a big hit for them, and a really fun song. It's from the movie of the same name, a classic 80s teen comedy.
New Wave! Oingo Boingo! Kind of ska too, they always played horns. Popular song played at Halloween parties. Lot of new wave has heavy bass guitars, dance music.
"Weird Science" is another video thats good. Their songs comes on lots of movies in the '80s and '90s.
This is just the tip of the iceberg with Boingo. You could spend a few weeks with them. Amazing band, iconic voice for the ages.
Ever since I first heard this song, I've wanted this played as the last song at my wake. Get people up and dancing and singing with a positive attitude towards death. Make them go home smiling and laughing in memory of me.
I went to Oingo Boingo's very last show. Oct 31st, 1995. A show I will never forget.
Did Danny perform in zombie mode with the big eyes like he does on some videos?
@@VicMikesvideodiary Ya. I've seen them a few times. Last show was off the wall. They ended up doing "We Close Our Eyes" twice back to back. Danny was getting emotional during the last song. Only A Lad.
@@SebastianSmith-c5t Nice.
Danny Elfman is pure genius.
You had to live in the 80's to truly appreciate this song! And I did/do!!
Oingo Boingo has some others unique classics. Only a Lad, Little Girls, Private Life, What You See, Forbidden Zone.
Always a fantastic group miss them hope they have another reunion soon
My favorite Oingo Boingo song because of that bass! The perfect Halloween song and mixes so well with any Tim Burton animated movie. Such a danceable song!
The production of this song! It's no wonder Danny Elfman writes movie soundtracks as well!
Watch the live version with the synced dancing on stage.
The drummer is Johnny Vatos and singer Danny Elfman the singer who did the soundtracks for all the Tim Burton movies and he is Jack from Nightmare before Christmas!
Another group that captures this type of energy and vibe is the ska punk band, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones with their hit "The Impression That I Get."
I love that song!
"Only a Lad", "Whole Day Off", "Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me". A few of MY favorites. THIS song is featured in a live performance, in the Rodney Dangerfield movie "Back to School".
This song is such a party! They even appeared to play it in the Rodney Dangerfield movie Back To School. You guys would LOVE that movie!! As a Potterhead, I totally thought of this song when I was reading about Nearly Headless Nick had his death day party, not to mention the dancing football players with Lydia at the end of Beetlejuice.
Love you guys! {{{hugs}}}
All are great!!
Violent Love from their debut EP
I really find it odd that oingo boingo, 40 years or so is having another moment, fantastic band by every measure you can use..I saw them around’89-‘90 and of all the bands I’ve ever seen, to include the Stones, the Who, AC/DC, and a lot more, they were my favorite LIVE!! Not hyperbole, just a truly amazing concert I will never, ever forget
Incredible song. The live version slays!
Had a great time... they are the best.
This is my favorite Oingo Boingo songs. They sing this song in the movie Back to School. You need to watch Back to School - great movie
@Louis Crispo
They reacted to "Devil Inside" around four months ago. They've done three INXS songs, that I know of.
@@LMmccallL57 yeah, I wasn’t asking them to react to them, I was just mentioning songs I like to hear together in like a mini playlist.
91X?
@@Proud.American58
You said you were waiting for this song to be _followed by_ ...., and INXS is in the list. I thought that meant you wanted them to react to it.
@@LMmccallL57 no worries. Have a great night !
I went to every Boingo concert from the Greek Theater in 84 when my buddy John Avila joined the band as the bassist until the Farewell at the Universal in 94. It was one hell of a decade of Halloween fun! Danny and his crew were truly amazing.
This is one of the greatest party songs ever.
Such a great, and fun band. Their Halloween shows were legendary. "Stay" was always my favourite song of theirs.
Nothing better live than this song, a full horn section (like 15 OB's) and a mosh pit.
If you need an upbeat, post-nuclear holocaust song by Oingo Boingo, check out Just Another Day
I also like Riders on the Storm by the Doors and Spy In the House of Love by Was Not Was.
Great band. This is one of the best bands of the 80's.
Saw them In Vegas for their second to last live performance - still the greatest live performance I have ever seen. They played for hours -311 opened for them and I still talk about how great this show was.
You guys missed an amazing live band.
Danny Elfman = GENUIS!
Highly recommend listening to “Not Your Slave”-a guarantee to chair dance Oingo Boingo song!
This is one of my all time favorite bands. Danny Elfman is a musical genius. And Dead Man’s Party is a masterpiece.
Oingo Boingo was one of those AMAZING bands from the late 80's that really didnt catch on in the rest of the country - Southern California LOVED the band but I know lots of folks from all over who'd never heard of them. Danny Elfman, would of course, find incredible later success as a movie soundtrack writer (often collaborating on many of Tim Burton's projects)
Glad you've given them a second try and found the love.
I saw them in concert in the 80s and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. So much skill.
He also sings in the movie Nightmare before Christmas.
If they haven’t seen or reacted to that film, they should.
I cannot tell you how happy i am you did an Oingo Boingo song. By far one of my 80's groups because of the originality and dark tones. Brilliant
Such a great song! 💙it was in the movie Back to School.
