That's a awesome upgrade to the Z's. Great to know that it pops on. This is a great area to make improvements with a 3D printer for a hidden dash cam or 'built in' radar. I had a coworker that integrated high police radar in to his 1991 NSX. He took it apart built custom housings for it so it blended in the mirror then ran a cable for the arrow light his instrument cluster where he did some cut out in it to prompt him. It took a lot of work but he had a heavy heavy foot.
Interesting, my cars a 97 1.9 roadster which doesnt have the remote mirror wiring but you have got me thinking i could soon wire some in, great video mate, thanks.😀
I wonder if the non M cars are the same way. I had thought about doing exactly this so I have a garage door opener and self dimming mirror. Thanks buddy!
Great idea. I followed your steps and replaced the mirror of my Z3M with that of 2004 E65. The problem I am having now is the central locking no longer works. I think the original mirror has a receiver in it for central locking. Did you have the same issue? thanks
My 2000 M Roadster has this issue. I got an E65 mirror from Ebay and guess what, The mounts are actually different enough that it will not fit on the 2000 mount. Be careful when trying this fix. Fortunately I only blew a total of about $31 for this mistake.
Hmm that's weird because my mirror came from an E65 (2003 745i to be exact). You can see it in the video. I just checked RealOEM and the base plate is the same part number - 51318145530. Not that I don't believe you, but maybe the seller didn't send you the correct part.

Having driven around with it for a bit, I actually decided to take those plastic bits off. They obstruct the view too much.
