Great thing your doing for yourself, visiting these people has a visible positive effect on you and them. Just so you know most of the older Romani people were discouraged from learning their languages and there was some cases of forced assimilation. The Romani language does still exist despite local government policies to destroy them
You should be confident about whoever you are, be confident and do your work and let people see your capabilities and prove yourself; you may know or don't but in India Dr. BR Ambedkar who was a dalit/lower cast but he proved himself and became a minister and made laws and helped in Indian constitution (at that time his cast was considered as untouchable and treated as animals) and today whole nation recognises him as idol ; but now we Indians are on United (except some politicians instigates riots for their own profit and vote banks) and will always love you all
The first time I have looked for our origins (I am Romany) was when my cousin was looking for a job like a crazy because he needed money quickly for health problems and the first one who accepted him was as a waiter in an Indian restaurant, the boss accepted him because he said my cousin looks like an Indian and the boss of the restaurant was looking for Indian boys who spoke good Spanish for his restaurant and when my cousin told him he is a gypsy the boss looked at us with a big smile and he said to us "it's because of that you look like one of ours, it's because you're one of ours" I went home to search for about my history origins and everything said we were ancient Indians, since that day I have great affection for my Indian roots , to the Indian people and obviously for your excellent food haha
Yes bro , you have Indian blood . That’s true . Many many centuries ago , some of our own people migrated out of India due to some compelling reasons and you are child of one of those Indians . Welcome to the roots of your ancestors. Proud to be part of this most ancient surviving civilisation.

Love to you from a Kale(Gypsy from Spain) We will never forget and we will always be proud of our Indian roots, a sad one that we gypsies in Spain do not know how to speak Hindi because we were forbidden to speak it under pain of death, they killed us or cut out our tongues, we only know how to say words but it cannot be done complete sentences because the vocabulary is very poor so we mix our language with Spanish, long live to all gypsies / Indians in the world🇮🇳🇪🇸❤️🌏

@@abhinavinsearchofthelost we gypsies are originally from northern india and present-day pakistan when the muslim empire came to conquer pakistan we gypsies have fought against muslim troops in vain, since that day the muslim empire made us slaves and brought us to the countries they occupied (Balkan, Egypt, Turkey, North Africa, Iran, Syria, etc.) they learned us to speak their languages and love their religion (Islam) that is why today there are many Muslim gypsies, the country that stands out the most has been Egypt , many gypsies have been taken to egypt. When the Muslim empire fell, the gypsies have been free and the gypsies of Egypt continued their route to North Africa to reach Europe, once we arrived in Europe, people thought we were originally from Egypt, that is why they have called us "Gypsy" from "Egypsian" the Europeans also enslaved us, they persecuted us, they forbade us to speak our language (North Indian language) under pain of death, so in each country that you go Romani (current gypsy language) is different now we speak our mixed language to the country in where we are (those from Spain speak a different Romani than those from Italy, those from Italy speak differently than those from Albania etc etc) the abolition of gypsy slavery has ended in 1800 in Spain and 1864 in Romania and in 1939-1945 we have been persecuted by the Nazis and killed, it is not known the exact number how many gypsies died of the Nazis but it is estimated more than 450k

Kari and Abhinav, I just finished watching "Our Love Story". The Romantic in me could not stop beaming and sighing. :) . I've continued to flesh out my Roma and Indian heritage: by way of language- Kaldersheran and Hindi are delights to learn- and by uncovering all the connections I can between India, the Roma, and myself. For example, from what I've learned of the Roma migrations in Central Europe, I believe I've identified that my maternal grandmother descended from the Sinti and my Paternal grandfather descended from the Ruska Roma. From what I've learned of the Roma migrations from India, I see, very vividly in my imagination, my Rajput grandparents standing firmly against the army of Mahmud Ghazni, but in the end, finding themselves left with the only choice to retreat to the road...all the way to Europe. :) Again thank you for this series and my hope for your continual baxt.
Same for me. My grandmother had Roma and Sicilian family. She was abused out of her culture and I want to bring it back into the family. Even though I look white, it is in my blood.
It’s so interesting when people think Indians that live outside India aren’t Indian. Russell peters even did a bit where he said the only difference is that his ancestors didn’t get on a boat. There are Indians established all over! Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji, South Africa etc.. we should all accept and love one another rather than create divide.
Ya I agree, we Indians ourselves don't even know about our people spread all over the world. We need educate fellow Indians about this. Fortunately thanks to Internet we are finally discovering these things and connecting

@BambinoI am sorry but It's extremely ignorant of you to conflate temples with mosques. Temple is nothing like a mosque. Keeping aside the theological differences between the two, Temples have been the centre of power for hindu civilization. From money to education temples have played the huge role. And now the temples either lie in the chains of govt control or another religious structure (mostly mosques and churches) have been built upon them. We can only do something for the Romani and all other gypsies if we are strong enough. And temples have to be the first step towards this endeavour.
@@vaibhavyadav9912 Lol! Indeed. Here people think TH-camrs are doing something tangible for the community, whereas a simple thing like reclaiming temples from apathetic secular government control has not been achieved. While they attack people who would have been an influential voice in the movement. Sending aid to other countries when people in the country are suffering. Also, we can't properly secure our borders, but we are sending our soldiers as part of peacekeeping forces to die in Africa. Fighting the war of the West, who doesn't want Africa to prosper. They use such excuses of human rights and doctors without borders to use Africa as a testing ground for various things.
@@RKB192000 Ikr. We couldn't even help our neighbouring hindu communities (CAA bill) who have been religiously persecuted by a certain "unnamed" pieceful religion and we talk about helping the romanis. Sometimes I think we need a hard hit on the head for a harsh reality check.
Sinti are from Sindh and left because of Bin Qasim and Roma are from Rajasthan and left Because of Mahmoud Ghazna, but in the end we are all the same, we speak the same language, we share the same flag and we are both called "gypsies"
Nonsense. The Roma found refuge and freedom under Muslim rule when they migrated to Europe. Look at the history of European abuse and discrimination towards the Roma which continues to this day where they live in poor conditions. The Romany who migrated to the middle east still speak their language and have their culture. Ask Romany people about it honestly instead of making assumptions. You can't even take care of the humans beings you call Lower Dalits but you're interested in the Roma.

I think the best thing we can do for these people is that there should be a campaign where we ask the Government of India to recognise these people as a part of Indian diaspora and fight for their rights. These people are spread all across the world and it is our duty to stand for them. In February 2016, during the International Roma Conferance, the Indian Minister of External Affairs stated that the people of the Roma community were "children of India". The conference ended with a recommendation to the Government of India to recognize the Roma community, spread across 30 countries, as a part of the Indian diaspora.

I came to know about Gypsies, when I was going out with my Romanian girl friend back in 2012. She gave me all negative things about them. It was brain feeded in her elders. I researched instantly and came to know the gypsies are actually coming from India. Out of all this the good thing I came to know about Romanian gypsies and gypsies in Europe, when ever I see them I take care of them. They are some bad people in every part of this land, but doesn't mean we should generalize.

It is wrong you said in 16-17 century they moved... actually it's traced to be happened before 6 th century and there are written records about their presence in Europe in the following centuries. These groups travelled to Africa Europe and west Asia and got seperated from each other.
Actually there are different waves of movements. The first possible written document about Romani people in Europe is from the 12th century and it's not entirely sure, even if quite possible, that it is about the Romani. The history of the people who are nowadays called Romani is different from one area to the other, from one tribe to the other. Even today they are extremely different from one another even in small Bulgaria, let alone the whole continent. Mostly they are Christian and Muslim. Muslim Romani in their majority declare themselves Turkish. Christians are divided between some who tend toward Bulgarian and Orthodox, some who have been converted to different Baptist and Protestant churches by Americans after 1989, and some who have no religious beliefs. The other big difference is the traditional occupation of the different tribes and it's an extremely complicated issue.

The account of gypsies and their migration is sketchy. There is good reason to believe that a huge portion of it was initiated by the brutal spread of new religion from 7th century. Once this spread towards Turkey in the north and towards Afhanistsn the waves of these attacks led to fleeing while attacking. The waves that retreated eastwards around 12th century ended up 8n present day Pakistan and western India. This was mainly Punjab, Rajasthan and Western Gujarat. The reverse movement also continued as the invaders reached these region. Those who converted to Islam had a better deal while the others had a raw deal with being marginalised and labeled. A well researched story would make a very inspiring and painful journey of our people.

This needs to be changed, we need to recognize these people as Indians and try to help them as much as we can. We need to take this up to the Ministry Of External Affairs, I'm sure if they watched this video they'll feel the same way as I'm feeling right now. Once again thank you so much and to all our Roma brothers and sisters out there know that we love you ❤
If Indians living worldwide could unite their hearts and help each other, it could be great power to influence Indian gov to improve and give better life to the need

Wrong absolutely Wrong history u said. Romas went out of india not because for better life , when they were in India they were in better life. When they left india their life became hell. During the first Turkic inv asion in India around 11th century, the Turks they took many Indians as slave out of india into Central Asia , most of them were artistian, musicians , writers etc but when the Great Mongol Emperor Genghis Khan rampaged whole middle East, Central Asia than this Roma people's become stateless and went west ward.but because of constant racism from west , they never got recognition and success. West are bunch of racist peoples and ideology. Even after for survival Roma people's left indian culture and adopted Christianity and other Abrahamic religions, but still they faces racism. So stop reading western history especially British history, they are the bunch of looters and thieves , they made that barbaric monster Winston Churchill as hero , millions of Britishers still takes pride of their col onial dids , they are proud of their ancestors evil dids and none of British leaders have ever apologized india for their ancestors evil dids , this is the situation of Britain, whole London museum is a chor Bazar. Showcased all looted wealth. And most importantly Roma people's are no more Indians , hereditary and bloodlines doesn't makes one indian. culture , civilization and values make a person india , even the Great khushan Emperor Kaniskha The Great was not of Indian Origin but embraced India's culture and civilization, and worked for India's interest. That's why he's consider as a indian Emperor.
Guys, watch Latcho Drom..it chronicles the story of Roma people and their migration from Rajasthan to Spain through Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Romania etc. It's one of the greatest epics made by Tony Gatlif
It feels good when we see our people who were separated from us hundreds of years ago. Many things have changed about them but just knowing that they know they are from India makes me happy. May Lord vishnu keep them happy and protected. 🙏
I am here after watching the Infamy Netflix series. I hv always been curious abt the Romani people.. All my best regards to the beautiful Romani people
You never hear about Anglo Indians on here. They were born in India, but had to depart due to marginalisation and discrimination. The modern Indian does not know much about them. Jamie Alter, has a good explanation (in Hindi) on here for those who are interested.
Anita, that's not entirely correct, perhaps there is a tad bit of truth in what you have written. Anglo Indians were not discriminated rather they were disjointed from the mainstream Indian society in general. During the days of the Raj they did feel superior to the 'natives' on account of their partial white ancestory. In present day India, most have assimilated well with the general populace. This is both because of westernisation of Indian society and indianisation of the Anglo Indian community. Anglo Indians hold senior positions in every walk of life particularly the Armed Forces.

@Dezeko Pablito oh no! Why?

I'm Roma but my family lines long ago were severed from the Roma, I too love my Indian family. :)

@BambinoI am sorry but It's extremely ignorant of you to conflate temples with mosques. Temple is nothing like a mosque.
Keeping aside the theological differences between the two,
Temples have been the centre of power for hindu civilization. From money to education temples have played the huge role.
And now the temples either lie in the chains of govt control or another religious structure (mostly mosques and churches) have been built upon them.
We can only do something for the Romani and all other gypsies if we are strong enough. And temples have to be the first step towards this endeavour.

I love Roma's our brothers and sisters. Indian guys in west should start a program to give them studies, schools, colleges for actual enlightement. The Romas have great potential to be the brightest as they have indian genomes, who were way ahead in science and technology when other world was way behind, Excel brothers and sisters in studies and be a part of helpful community.
Seriously man
It is wrong you said in 16-17 century they moved... actually it's traced to be happened before 6 th century and there are written records about their presence in Europe in the following centuries. These groups travelled to Africa Europe and west Asia and got seperated from each other.
Of course! I'm never afraid to be proven wrong :)
Do you have a legitimate article/link to refer to? I am learning myself you see!
Three exodus. Ist some artists sent to zorasterian ki g of Iran. 2nd Muhammad bin kasim were sinti Sindh attack. 3 . afgan and Turk attack.
I’m not an emotional person but reading the comments made me teary. I’m African American and read a lot but gosh, I didn’t know that the so called Gypsies were originally from Bharat. Of All the species on this planet, the human being is the worst at ill treated his fellow human. The animals kill to survive, they can’t help it, but they don’t mistreat their fellow beings. We’re supposed to be the crown of creation! How sad, no country wants to give them citizenship! They treated them like commodities. Properties, I want to weep. Don’t lose heart, You are from a great people. Land of the Mighty sages of Bharat, the wisest among men. I feel for you and can understand how tough it’s been for you. Love you all, from your sister.

Alexander lost most of his army in war in India and while goin back he took able bodied men and their families from several villages of Rajputana, these persons are called Romas. They are spread all over Europe and the European countries does not recognise them as theirs and as such they are 3 grader citizens. Their representatives came to India about 30 - 35 years back and they requested India to help them to get them citizenship of Europe countries but India too refused.
Thanks so much for this info. This is really helpful 🙏🏼

@@SS_Nationalist Alexender fought with king porus who was living at western side of indian. So fought battle Alexandar lost and died. But so called western and indian historians writes that Alexandar won and then he didn't kill porus and returned to home because his army were tied and he died near babylon. And people believed it. But the truth is Alexandar lost here. So he couldn't proceed to mainland india. After that selucas nikater came who married his sister to Chandragupta maurya because he knew india had powerful ruler.
Alexander came before mauryan empire. Rajput began to come into existence
From 7th /8 th century AD onwards
Where as Alexander came in 320 BC
So Roma people are from north west part of India began to migrate when muslim invades came in 10 th century on north west part of India.
Alexander not for once step his foot in Rajputana, Rajputana and Rajputs didn't even existed at his time. He came till Indus river region in Punjab and Sindh and then turned from there back to Iran, so stop creating false history.
The children are acting freely just like children in Indian gullies and villages. Felt good to see them smiling, but they needed to be represented properly:)
I am in tears after watching this video. Our people here in Europe have done so many bad things to these people and it continues even today...

Thanks grand mother. A lot of love from this Indian boy.
This shows that we need to be self reliant, strong and independent. The Europeans (white) will never treat you as one of their own. Even if you live alongside them for centuries. Much respect and love to Sinti and Romani brother and sisters... They are always welcome here in their ancestral lands. ❤️🇮🇳
its the same for whites between whites, blacks between blacks, asians between asians and even indians between indians. not, not about race. people tend to stick to those closest to them. that it is. if its not race - its nationality, if its not nationality - its ethnicity, if its not ethnicity - its religion, if its not religion its friend vs relative, even then it becomes relative vs closer relative, until we reach that we ultimately care only for ourselves.

I am 67, of Indian descent. My great grandparents were brought from India as Indentured Labourers by the British, to work on the Sugar, Cocoa & Coconut estates of English & European owners.
We have a 40% Indian population in our country. There are a few descendants of Indians in other Caribbean Islands, where almost all things Indian have been lost. However there are substantial amounts in Guyana, Suriname and Belize. In the hard years some Indians from Guyana went to Puerto Ordaz in Venezuela.
Indian culture and Hinduism are alive in my country today. There are even Indian-born people living here...........though they mainly keep to themselves.
Hearing the Bulgarian Romani sing, brought tears to my eyes. The story of migration for whatever reason, oppression, and being shunned for your race and culture is as old as the existence of man. It will not cease unless God changes this world !

I heard they didn't agree to remain dominate by others. So they left to be free.
Not only Rajasthan but other parts of northern India also
