    I don't want to call you out like this, but that really felt like bad acting at the beginning. How did the cameras get down there if you didn't go underneath the truck? Anyone with an eyeball would have seen this thing hanging down. I do hope it's just the editing that makes it look this way.

      Ok this is the hot topic of the whole video so allow me to explain. Do y’all remember the last F150 with the smoked pinion bearing? It came in making noise and I placed cams and mics on the diff and frame to catch the noise and vibe. Since the complaint was similar with this F150 I did the same thing thinking it was an axle noise. The difference is, with this F150, the driveshaft fell out. There’s no way to stage this, and I will use the rubber boot tearing as evidence to support my claim. I realize the footage is super rare in the wild, and it seems far fetched. Regarding edits, I drove around the block before the shaft fell out trying to determine what was going on with the noise complaint. The carrier bearing broke while I was driving. When I pulled in the lot is when the shaft broke in half.

      Rays video showed the driveshaft intact till he turned into the lot,, and the cameras show this,, WITH the cameras still under there and running,, the drive shaft failed and FELL down out of the carrier Bearings mount, thats why they ( the cameras) caught the failure..

    A friend once dropped a drive shaft driving over one of those old metal grate type bridges years ago. The front of the shaft dug into the bridge grating and launched the shaft up through the bed of the truck and grenaded the rear axle. A few years before that, another guy pulled up in his Firebird that he just put a new engine into in the road that went past my parent's garage (which was a well known place for greasy teenage motorheads to hang out, work on cars, and drink beer) and proceeded to pull a hole shot to show off. He run the RPMs up and side stepped the clutch. The car went about 2 feet and BLAM!!! the drive shaft was bouncing on the road. He forgot to tighten the U-joint bolts...

    In 1978, I worked in a gas station that had a drive-through car wash.
    Some guy thought it would be funny to light up the tires as he was driving out of it. A u-joint gave way and bounced all around, hit a joint in the ground, and lifted the car a couple of inches of the ground. It messed up a lot of stuff under the car.
    He was mad, but we laughed and laughed.

      I saw a dude with a big modified truck setting in the turn lane, I was in the straight lane. The light was about to go green for everyone, and the dude in the truck power brakes it....and the drive shaft falls out just as I'm getting going. I pointed and laughed at him as I'm passing by him. Don't screw around and you won't find out. I still think about that from time to time.

      I used to work at the local garage where I grew up. One of the town clowns decided to let rip with a burnout. He twisted the tail shaft off at the diff. It dropped onto the ground and kept spinning, because he thought he was doing a good burnout. In the end, we fitted a new tail shaft to his car. Years later, we had a cop who made the idiots who did burnouts clean the rubber off the road. Funny as hell to watch.

    • @user-tf3ir8sc5m
      @user-tf3ir8sc5m 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      When I was young, I did a lot of stupid things like burn outs. I never broke anything, but neutral drops, power braking, etc. really is one of the dunbest things you can do to your car. Aside of wasting rubber and being annoying, and the obvious driveshaft stuff mentioned above, you can also really toast your torque converter if you have an automatic, or your clutch if you have a stick.

    My dad spent some time as a flat-rate mechanic in the 70s. He taught me a lot of stuff about working on cars, but his health hasn't been good most of my life, and for the past 20 years or so, I've had to undertake repairs on my own without him feeling confident in providing advice.
    I love that you've demystified working on many car situations I've always been nervous about attempting. Before watching your videos, I never would have taken off a fender liner, v6 intake plenum (or any plenum that crosses over the bulk of the engine), replaced U-joints, done spark plugs on a FWD v6, replaced fuel injectors, or attempted to work on any portion of the evap system. Thanks to your videos, I've gained tremendous knowledge and confidence, including accurately diagnosing and replacing U-joints today on both ends of my driveshaft.

      No, he doesn't watch. Some of his health issues are physical, almost entirely a result of years of poor choices. Sadly, while an on-the-job injury (after he moved on from mechanic and went into medical) caused early retirement, it also was a catalyst for mountains of mental health issues which are, frankly, much more of a barrier to him helping than anything else.

    What a catch!! To those who wouldn't have thought to put a camera on what was assumed to be a problem with the rear end - the camera was initially aimed at the gear box where he assumed the trouble was. Made it hard to miss the swinging drive shaft when the footage was checked after the racket ramped up so, I assume, he repositioned the camera before continuing and getting it pulled into the yard to see exactly what was going on and WOW! Awesome video capture!! Even if you weren't a youtuber, that video capture would have definitely made it to youtube anyway because it was just that awesome!

    "This should be easy!" Famous last words.....lol As far as the drive shaft goes before I replaced it I would have flipped one of them 180 and re-checked. It could have been a balance issue. It is not enough to make sure the u-joints are in line but some times they have to be properly aligned with each other. An instructor at the GM Training Center mentioned this in class back in the 80s.

    Heavy tow truck operator here. An out of time driveshaft can cause vibration and destroy a rear end. If I have to pull a driveshaft out of a slip yoke I mark the slip yoke to the shaft and rear u joint. If a carrier bearing self destructs I mark transmission to rear yoke. The way ray wrenches on the flange for preload is an example of experience vs measurement. Should you measure every time? Technically yes. Only one person stopped, and it happened to be my neighbor. He was no help so I called AutoZone and had them deliver me a u joint and the middle of a highway of a grassy medium, and that’s where I replaced a rear u joint on a Chevy truck this was back before cell phones used the hotel land line to call and a phone book to call local auto zone

When I called Chevrolet, the regional manager asked me if I expected it to run forever. The reason for the condition of that truck is salt water, and an owner who refuses to clean it occasionally. After seeing the pinion, I believe he uses this truck to launch a salt water boat.
