    Just subscribed. Really enjoy your channel. I absolutely agree with you. Curl tail grubs and the original soft shad body swimbaits have been around forever and have always been productive baits. Keep up the great vids bud!

    You are giving excellent advice! I'm old enough to remember the original Mr Twister Grubs, which revolutionized the river smallie fishing where I live. Lures don't suddenly stop working, especially all-time classics. Fishermen are fickle always looking for the "latest and greatest."
    Curly Tail Grubs can often be found in bargin bins and closeouts, making them maybe the best affordable bait on the market. And they'll catch anything that swims. My favorite is a 3" curly grub in tequila sunrise, but let's keep that secret to ourselves! 😉
    Keep up the excellent content! You are going to blow some minds with your deeply common sense approach.

      I still have Mr. Twister in my tacklebox. They were revolutionary everywhere. You say it best, lures don't suddenly stop working. unfortunately, the industry will try to render older lures obsolete because they need to sell us the newest idea they conjured. I love throwing the old white 2 & 3 inch curly tail with black spots on the tail. Your secret is safe with me LOL🤫. Thank you for your kind words.

    As a kid I grew up throwing the curly tail grub it was always my go to bait cause it a multi species catcher

      @familybudgetfisherman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No doubt about it. My growing up as a fisherman was very similar. Just having this exchange with you is bringing back alot of fond memories when my dad and I would fish for stripers and smallmouth in the very cold American River that runs through the northern part of Sacramento, California, right outside his back yard.

    I have to agree with everything you are saying. But frankly I'm glad most have forgotten about the lowly curly tail grubs. That leaves more for me to catch. Great video.

    In this new era of bass fishing , I guess the curly tail grub isn’t sexy enough. You are spot on my friend.

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your comment is exactly right. Many fishermen care more about the lure they caught the 5 plus pounder on rather than the fact they caught a 5 plus pound bass. Thanks for watching the video and for your kind words. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    Great video. Hello from Canada. I just love grubs. Some of the things I like about them are, they are way easier to acquire and keep in good condition opposed to live bait. They work on pretty much every species of fish, you can imitate anything a fish eats with them by changing the colour and how you fish them, you can fish it in almost every way, lots of people don’t throw them so fish are typically not used to seeing them. They work scented or unscented if you have allergies or going into restricted waters. And they are usually pretty dang cheap.

    2.5” - 6” Curly tail grubs are excellent for In-shore SW. Halibut and Sand - Spotted - Calico Bass will light them up at times.

    Nice video, as always. With regards to swimbaits....have you ever tried SavageGear? 3d, 4d, pulse tail trouts or shiner? Great bang for the buck and really good action. Of course not as cheap a curly tails....

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your compliment of the video. I have not thrown the Savage Gear 3d or 4d swimbaits. However they are beautiful baits. The only line through swimbait I have thrown is the Osprey Inline Heavy Full Body Talon 4" Swimbait in golden shiner color. You are correct they are net inexpensive, but these days they cost about as much as a lucky craft crankbait, the jack hammer chatterbait, and just about every megabass hard bait lure.😌. That's whey those gift cards for birthdays and other special days, as well as only buying during sales discounts is crucial.

    I just looked over at my new rod and reel, Low and Behold there's a Cury Tail grub Texas rigged on it. Love me a 3" & 4" curly talk Grub! King of curly tails is a Mr Twister. Would you agree?

    It's easy to let the big marketing get you thinking that you have to have so many different fishing lures. Most tackle shops are there to catch fishermen more than fish.

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the cheaper you can get them the better off you will be! 😂😂

    Hey Mali, have you tried The Cali clip hook keepers? I love em.

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sure have. I have several of them because the Shimano Zodias rods were manufactured without a hook keeper. I like them alot. Do you have them as well. If so, how do you like them and for which rods?

    • @slougo5909
      @slougo5909 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got 2 rods. Triumph 6'6 mf with a bg 3000 reel. And I got the green light from the Warden and received a Daiwa Kage 7' mf for Christmas paired with a 2500 Tatula. We have a camper on a lake and started getting into fishing again. Used to Really be into it after I came home from army. 5 kids later and 10 grandkids I'm into like Never before. TH-cam is Addictive with All the fishing knowledge. I Never used soft plastics and now that's 95% of my gear. I got my wife a Shakespeare carbon with a Daiwa Regal 2500. She out fishes me at times.

    Where you at Fella, You OK? Have you had experiences with micro guides and spinning gear, if so did you like them, Especially Braid to Leader?

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. I'm doing great! I took time off to celebrate an entire week of my wife an my wedding anniversary. You will see videos this week. Great question! I do have experiences with micro guides. In general I like them alot but knots (like braid to leader) struggle to get through them much of the time. That said they are better on baitcast rods than spinning rods because of how the line comes off of the real during a cast.

  • @ThriftALife
    @ThriftALife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's the universal bait. As you point out, nothing beats it for versatility and cost effectiveness. I love fishing old standbys like curl tails and inline spinners - nobody wants to touch them because they're uncool, and what's the point of fishing if you can't look like a big badass on instagram doing it?

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      😂😂😂 You are sooo correct! Thanks for watching the video. I am amazed that people want to catch fish on a certain lurer rather than just using an artificial baits that works. I don't mind being denied my instagram fame if I catch my personal best on a curly tail or an inline spinner. Thanks for the comment. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

      No. I have never purchased fishing tackle through those avenues. However I have heard of people getting some great bargains through those purchases. One person I trust is a youtube guy named @baitman. He does lots of unboxings and will many times sell brand new equipment on ebay. Thanks for watching the video.
