    I've inherited my Dad's Renault Austral which was a top spec, and although not a full EV and a hybrid, I've really enjoyed driving it. Renault really are doing some great things lately.

    Dank an Renault: fast alles richtig gemacht! 😉

    The French revolution of car industry has begun! Peogeot and Renault (similar to Kia and Hyundai of Korea) have together introduced some of the very interesting car and EVs basically knocking it out of the park. They out of nowhere have caught up with the big EV players and have gone even better in many aspects. LOVE the interior I wish many car maker will look at this as example of new generation finesse in cabin. Not one modern entertainment / safety/ convenience features missing. Hope they sell outside Europe my finger crossed.

    The base model at £37.5K is well-equipped and probably all that most families would need, with a real-life range of about 200 miles while avoiding the premium road fund licence. Attractive all-rounder that has a premium look.

    • @seltaeb9691
      @seltaeb9691 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Tech version gives 379 miles, but in reality probably 320 maybe. Save up & get that, tho the base level is not available in the UK yet for some daft French reason.

    • @richbayley
      @richbayley 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Zero road fund licence for all in the uk until (I think) the end March 2025, so another reason to consider this car

    Thumbnail looks like it says "C'est Ron" hehe! I'm currently very interested in the Megane E-Tech myself as I currently own a 2016 Zoe, but the Scenic is a great look at the near future of Renault EVs too. I wish the Megane had the white interior, or a panoramic roof! That opacity selector is so cool on that roof and very sci-fi.
    I agree that press day tasters are only a tiny sample and I'd love any kind of long term review. It's like how I didn't realise how annoying the Zoe's double windscreen wipers were until I had bought it! (The position that the driver side wiper stops in at the top causes a great big drip to run right down the middle of the driver's half of the windscreen when it's raining or you use the screenwash).
    Great video, the first I've watched from you but I will be watching more of your content :)

    I have a 2005 Scenic II. She is old but I like that I can fold the back seat up against the front seats, so the floor in the back gets completely flat.

    I managed to get a test drive of that exact model at Gridserve Braintree. I had it for 1 hour and mainly drove it in sport mode. My daughters loved the space in the back. The youngest (she gets the middle seat!) was impressed by the flat floor. It's probably the one we will go for next summer unless the Kia EV3 messes with that plan

    In the original Scenic, there were clever “cubby holes” around the car, which, in mine, used to get filled up with the things kids needed on longish journeys. There has been no mention of this on here or on other reviews Ive watched on the Scenic. Is this the case?

  • @mdshovel
    @mdshovel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    One thing not mentioned - fire safety. Flip the back seat squab and there is a master cut-out for electrics and a big valve connector that you shove a fire hose in. It floods the battery inside with cold water .. this is the only car I've seen this on. There is also a QR code on front and back screens for Emergency Services to scan and get above info

    Handles. When you approach the car, the key fob makes the handles pop out automatically. The gear stick or twig more like worries me. Ive got petrol auto Scenic MK3 & the big knob that you move up & down PNRD is sure footed but that PNRD twig is so easy to get wrong ie Drive but youve gone to Reverse oops crash💥. I mean I get my wiper speeds mixed up no sweat but the other is pretty major.

    all looks very promising - the ev market is changing so quickly, with so much knowledge and experience coming back into new models. Still wish they had used a new name, but gettign used to that now. A lot of contemporary car design is also making it increasingly difficult to judge the size of a new vehicle when its seen alone - would be great if you could more often show a car near something more familiar.

    Yep a nice looking car and reasonably practical. Absolutely love the innovative rear armrest and the photochromatic sunroof which I'm sure we'll see more of in cars to come.
    We owned 3 Scenics when the family was younger and they were game changers from Renault at the time as far as equipment and practicality. Double glass tilting and retractable sunroofs. A HUGE amount of legroom/space in the back. Sliding rear seats to give either more legroom or boot space. The rear seats also tilted forward for trips to the dump and totally removable for even more space or configured as a four seater for even more elbow room. There were excellent storage bins under both the rear and front seats. All this in a car the same length as the old Ford Escort.
    Renault have consistently been innovative and this is another example. 👍

    Think this is the favourite for our new car. Will see what the deal is like when I start my new job on their car scheme - but today it looks like the best option. The iconic, on a company lease deal, isn’t much more money and the tech looks amazing.

    @richardhargrave6082 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very nice review, Pete.
    I tried a Meghane E-Tech a few months ago and really liked it, worth a review from yourself I think.
    I like the Scenic more, but maybe the price is just to high?
    You can factor in the fuel saving against home charging and its probably close if buying off finance or lease, cost per mile is the only way to compare the costs of an ICE against EV. Its close now, unless the man maths goes wrong.
    I think Hendy need to lend you one for longer.
    You'll get the usual comments about EV Ped, not Petrol Ped, but that's the way the world is being pushed, cars like this make EVs a real alternative, well done Renault

(More fun than driving our main car which is an Audi!. )The fly in the ointment (Sorry to be boring) as a private buyer Is the current depreciation levels on new EVs. I am sure this is putting a lot of people off the change to electric.

    The issue with chargering information in the route planning is that after 18 months of EV ownership I now know UK hubs with low cost charging such as 41, 52 and 61p per kwh. In car systems are not tuned to costs.

    • @mdshovel
      @mdshovel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Google Maps on AAOS (as per Volvo & Polestar) have filter settings for your chosen charge card, or favourite charge suppliers or even speed of dispenser .. so for Instance if you use the Renault Mobilise App and RFID card and set that in your payments filter .. it will only direct you to those it covers eg:- Ionity at 43p. That is exactly what I have done for 2 years with my Volvo XC40 EV that has the same system and Vo;lvo card - and works throughout UK and Europe. It has become my major factor in choosing my next EV.

    • @bigmacntings7451
      @bigmacntings7451 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah, that's definitely the other problem..
      compared to domestic electricity rates,the EV chargers are a total rip off.
      even with standard tariff "peak" domestic rates......35p-40p/kwh should be what's on offer nationally for EV points. Serious amounts of places are near double that.

    • @seltaeb3302
      @seltaeb3302 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bigmacntings7451you can get apps that tell you these cheaper ones. Most will charge at home but on longer journeys then you just have to pay up, don't forget profits are needed to open up much more EV chargers. It's not done for free. Once drivers go over en masse to ev & hybrids & petrol is used much less then all that lost fuel taxes will need recouping which means charging at home will be separate at a much higher rate..

    Impressive design and range!
    I've just watched this again after sitting in a scenic on my journey to replace my XC40 Recharge P6.
    Volvo have basically shot themselves in the foot with the EX30 as yes, it's affordable but it's basically like sitting in a box with no character. The EX40 is now not affordable compared to my current Volvo, hence looking at the Scenic and in a very pleasant surprise, the monthly cost of the Iconic Scenic is some £200 a month cheaper than Volvo's PCP offering. It's actually really good value and potentially a very serious alternative.

Only thing I'd probably dislike is the gear selector arm, why such a massive thing, why not a simply button or rotary dial......it just looks too old fashioned and not in keeping with the modern design of the car. Renault have 4 Hybrids, the Captur, the Austral, Arkana & lastly the Clio, plus they have their offshoot Dacia Hybrid range. Go to your local Renault dealer & see them.

    I have noticed in many recent reviews that the back seats seem very shallow in new cars. Especially EV's. I guess it's due to underfloor batteries. I know you have long legs. I'm a similar height to you, so would also struggle with comfort. Other reviewers who are not over 6ft seem also to have knees up high in the back.

    Is the floor flat with the seats down?
    If not it's a definite no no.

    Really this car, if possible can you try to get a hold of some of the lower value versions of the cars you get, it's just, not everyone is going to be getting the highest speck of each car.

    Nice car and we had a Zoe for 3 years. But our Kona of 5 years and 80k miles is eggscellent. I think I would prefer the new Kia K3.

    It's an impressive offering and more like the sort of EV that people might want to drive. However, the price is silly and the depreciation will be huge (COTY or not!).
    Also, how much are Renault going to be charging for all that connectivity at the end of 3 years? Audi want £15 a month which is taking the p1$$....!

    Great looking motor but efficiency is nothing to write home about.. I have a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq and have just done a 235 mile journey
    , mainly motorway and averaged 5.4 miles per kW.The. Cost option for the paint is a bit harsh, many manufacturers have white as a no cost option.

    What's always let the French cars down in the past, was the reliability of the ICE engines. Other than that, they always were very sensible and comfortable and practical. EVs won't have the reliability issues, and I reckon French cars could become better a proposition than they ever were. On a personal note, I've owned very many french cars, and I can't say I've found them less reliable than, say the German cars. I've had Renault's breezing well past the 250k mile mark, for instance. But that's another debate.

    Looks impressive....BUT....
    What is it with all these new renault's and the massive boot lip?
    If you've got seriously heavy gear to be lugging around,the flat floor is a must.Probably not a dealbreaker for joe bloggs and family with a couple of kids on holiday, but for this price,the fleet buyers are the boss, and they need functionality.
    Stellantis platform EV range is also not reputedly that good. typically two thirds of WLTP...so even long range in typical winter is only 200-250 miles.....300 in summer.Kia/hyundai /tesla and toyota got this one in the bag...their stated range is pretty accurate.....within 10%.
    I suppose plus point is 22kw AC charging, but work/home/supermarket charging is mostly 7kw.not too many 22kw chargers around, but the extra might come in handy from time to time.

      Last year Renault and his boss Luca de Meo wanted to export its sport brand Alpine in USA in 2026/2027 . It will be electric SUV. Their two next SUV in 2025 /2027 are designed with US norms.
      They have taks with US car dealer Auto Nation. Currently we have no others news ! Wait and see.

    The Scenic is a wonderful MPV, unfortunately three kids won't fit in the back if you use child seats. I would also like to welcome a less "flammable" battery like LFP or NCMA.. But still - good job Renault! :-)

    Last car I bought new was in 2000, a Mondeo 1.8. Adjusted for inflation that would now cost £25k. I won’t be buying a new car anytime soon.
