OMG, I'm drooling! Great idea with the onions and tortillas too.
Achiote seeds are about as hard as a diamond, they take a long time to grind. I prefer the paste, which is available at Mexican markets and Amazon. Lime orange or lemon orange are typical of the Yucatan, there is a youtube somewhere posted by the director of "Once upon a time in Mexico" for puerco pibil, it's totally worth the time if you want a pork recipe with achiote. Search - once upon a time in mexico cochinita pibil - I've made this several times for Christmas family gatherings.

Nice! I am lucky that every grocery store around me has a section of spices in the little cello packs. So much more reasonable - I just refill my jars. I make a similar marinade but also use canned jalapenos and the juice and the sliced onions go in the marinade.
I cook them on my flat top (Blackstone) and do the tortillas on there too. Delicious.
BTW - slicing against the grain, like she did, is key to tender meat.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

we always marinade our own carne asada:
    lemon juice
orange juice( if we have it, not required)
    lawrys seasoned salt
    thats it
marinate a few hrs b4 you barbq it outside on the grill.
i prep by doing layers in a rectangle pan
    1 layer meat
lemon juice, try to squeeze evenly across all meat.
then lightly season with lawrys, covering all the meat with a light layer
    the. repeat
    it comes out so good!

I have a question - have you always used soy sauce in your Mexican recipes? I see it in several of your videos, and I wonder if the soy sauce is influence from meeting your husband, or if growing yo your family would use soy sauce as well. Thanks for the secret ingredient in this video! 😊❤

    • @tiki_trash
      @tiki_trash ปีที่แล้ว +1

Soy sauce has a lot of natural MSG in it. Salty and savory, it works well for marinades in many dishes but too much of it and everything starts to taste like Asian food. You can use it kind of like anchovies in a Ceasar salad, you don't really notice it as fish but if it wasn't there you would miss it. A lot of prepackaged "ethnic" sauces/marinades have soy sauce as an ingredient not just "Asian" food.
