I remember when I first came to Portland in the early '80's. There was a billboard downtown of a woman lying down in a bathing suit and someone had splashed red paint all over it and scrawled the words "poison idea". I didn't know it was a band; I thought it was some sort of political statement.
Ha! I remember that billboard too. It was clearly visible from the parking lot of the Satyricon. The billboard was advertising Coppertone where someone had spray painted red over the woman's crotch to make it look like she was on her period, and for good measure painted Poison Idea next to her... effing hilarious, very punk and god damn it I just wish I'd had a camera.

Actually according to the mating walruses video. This was actually from february 13, 1982. I dont know where the uploader got 1983. I guess because they look younger? Its still great though as it is a early piece of Poison idea history!
This is February 1982. Recorded at Mount Hood Community College, by the television production students. My friend Sue Misner knew some of those students and asked me if Poison Idea was interested in doing this. Tom Pig was my pal and housemate, so I told him about it. Good times, mate.
@D-beat n0is3 addiction There were much faster bands then Poison Idea in 1983, but I get the connotation. Early metal was extremely influenced by speed and intensity of hardcore.
@D-beat n0is3 addiction I agree. It's a scene thing. If you hang out with only certain crowds, certain developments would just pass you by. I came from metal, but last decade or so, I got to appreciate punk/HC influences more and to like more of various styles there. I was obsessed with grindcore, from early on and then after I found their influences in earlier HC/crust scenes it peeked my interest. I now can enjoy both metal and punk, and I easily see their mutual influence and developments. Fascinating stuff. And great music. I'm more for speedy stuff, endless breakdowns just bore the fuck out of me, though I enjoy some beatdown-y stuff, usually from earlier period.
This is earlier than ‘83. Glen was gone by summer ‘82.
RIP Pig Champion. One of the greatest hardcore punk guitar players.
