Along with Negative Approach, this is probably the most pure example of hardcore out there. None of the smarmy bad singing of 70s punk, no breakdowns or metal influence that would come with later developments in the genre. Not that there is anything wrong with those things but this is about as grounded as the genre gets. Just fast, ferocious punk. Plain and simple.
Couldn't agree more. I have such a soft spot for this bit of plastic. I was completely blown away the first time I heard it.
It's a bit formulaic but very clean hardcore without the noise. Add Fear and SOA to this list. Lee Ving from Fear has a clear and concise vocal quality. To me, that's purity. Listen to "I Don't Care About You (Fuck You)". Or SOA's song "Gonna Have to Fight". The EP No Policy was produced in 1980 and it's clean, clear, crisp, PURE hardcore.
Chaos UK's "Britain's Burning" EP 1982 & Poison Idea's "Pick Your King" E.P. the year after. Same kind of feel, different sides of the Atlantic Ocean...
Reminds me of how my uncle's played
Look up Blokaade
thank you good man
my family has a like a ton of posters of this dude
He looks healthy for a 350 lb junky punker.
Jesus?
🤣
Yeh, he's the main man.
40 years old and still fantastic
some of this boomer music is pretty good
@@xisotopex The 1980s are boomers? Learn math.
@@Truth_Hurts_Bad dude! the guys that make this music are boomers. try to unfuk yourself.
40 years old? Jesus. Double my life and I’m still 6 years younger than this. Some things just hold up too well.
Wholly Sh*t! I'm 52 and just discovered it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
too little, too late
45 same here.Fresh hardcore punk sounds from the eighties.
I'm 14 lmao too early ig
Walrus Punk!
@@glenndanzigsemployeeplease7638 never too early for punk haha
Greatest punk ep of all time
def. in the top 10
hands down...
I agree!
Facts
Best l've ever heard
You can't change the world, but you can change yourself ! Best lyrics ever...
well, you might end up not changing either but you can try.
these are word to live for
Some said... If you don't like the rules, try to change them, if you can't change them, ignore them...
On the other hand, maybe the world will change when we all change. Each individual can change to make it happen... And don't let the error enter into yourself... If you change you will get something for sure...
@@sciexp Not if they all change to different things. Personally, if everyone changed to be aligned with me... Id change, I don't do good with groups..
@@drdelewded Maybe I did not explain well.. I was referring to Deep changes about selfishness, extreme individualism, and things like that, not preferences. If we commit ourselves with common sense, we will arrive at very similar conclusions, and differences Will be minor ones, and of course, we will keep our different tastes and opinions in general, but at a deeper,.more abstract or general level, we will agree, and we will live much better, cooperating more instead of trying to be competitive. I could be wrong too, of course... But of course, I will not do the changes for other people. I need them, I need everybody. Everybody can and has to contribute for these deep changes. It's not imposible, I think...
you can't change the world, but you can change yourself!
Some of the best hardcore I’ve ever heard.
Did not realize their early stuff was this great.
You can listen to each instrument on its own and each kills it... together it kills you
True as fuck, catch wrek to this shit!!!!!
the bass work on this so underrated
This is my life
i guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me

Those are the definitive best albums of all time of the hardcore punk genre.
No Minor Threat or Black Flag?
None of those bands have the same intensity as the bands I mentioned. Still great and very influential bands of course.
But when we're talking best, those bands are still really important, along with Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, etc.
Music progresses. Those bands I mentioned are the pinnacle of hardcore music. The first bands aren't always the best, they're just influential, but not the best.
Matter of opinion I suppose. Still love all the bands you listed anyways
Seeing Jerry blow fire over the pit after he slammed half a fifth of jack, broke the glass and sliced his own forehead. Intense as fuck.
I first heard this 7" in 1984. It went straight onto a cassette in the regular blaster rotation for skate seshes along with MDC, Crucifix, JFA, Minor Threat, 7 Seconds, Neg Approach, Ill Repute, etc. It still holds up today as one of the greatest HC EPs of all time.
still blows me away over 30 years later
The Genesis of Hardcore.
i'll never forget the moment I was listening to this on the school bus in probably 2007, i was in 9th grade, feeling how extremely profound it was with my headphones on, just going crazy inside, in the best way possible, and looking at all my peers and wishing i could share and that they would understand. thank you poison idea
Right on! I had a similar experience when I first heard this in '83. Much respect!
FUCKING ACCURATE. same era same thoughts. made my night reading this comment, s/o to you my guy.
for me it was about 87, i was into death metal still, but i stole my 2 yr younger brothers cassette that had a mix of P.I. , Suicidal Tendancies, SOD, GBH, lets just say i was way done with death metal and into Harcore Punk!
@@denvercampbell1634 Wow,,,and just a bit curious which Death metal bands you were listening already in 1987 Still... ;-)
@@vopy48 Metallica, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Slayer, just a few off the top off my head...
Been listening too these guys since the early 80s and the older I get the more I like them.
Absolutely brother...Absolutely
Please be 1983 again.
13 min video = 13 songs = 10/10 hard core
This is the best Poison Idea release, And is my Favorite
So basically what your saying is this is good and good
@@johndoe-cc9cw yep, 3 years later, i realized. But Nothing has changed, still my favorite shit from them
@@eduardoarthur6531 maybe you're already familiar but check out nardcore full album. Great album
this line up, man...
Exactly
Unarguably the best hc created. So good I can't make out one word to at least half the songs. PI passed me by somehow. Glad they did because I have something to listen to at age 52. Am I making sense at all?
There is less minutes than songs on this EP. How class 👏
I've been listening to hardcore punk rock my whole life..I'm 57..and this is still my all time favorite..it's just unbelievable...and yes..I saw them live in the late 80s. How do you think they were?😂😂😂
I'm 45, one of my favorite bands shows
PI is the best band ever!! RIP pig champion!!!
Love this and reggae
This was the only Portland band I knew of when I moved out here nearly 25 years ago. Still the absolute Kings of Punk!
The shows in SLC were fuckin epic. War All the Time.
Saw them in Portland in '98. Good Times!
Still some of the gnarliest guitar and bass tones ever put to tape.
Man that was like an unrelenting beat down 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Chris at Loony Tunes records in Wayne NJ gave me this LP for free when it came out still have it still blasted regularly Real Rock N Fucking Roll Period!!!!
I meditate to this
I remember buying this 83'! And it still rules!
You cant change the world, but you can change yourself. Words to live by... words to live by.
Got this on vinyl. One of their best.
I have one of that also :)
Same
Smokin man! Hard fuckin core to the fullest!
Thank you, TH-cam algorithm. This album is an absolute gem!
Grew up in the 80's and pig champion still slays on the brain with his onslaught hardcore riffs.
Was fortunate to see them a few times in there hayday. One of the best punk bands to come out of the pdx.
this album and bad brains is how i learned how to play punk rock, and its fun as hell to play along with this record. on guitar bass and drums
My buddy, Chris gave me this EP in 1989. Wow! Brutal hardcore. I needed this at that time. And, now.
Perfect.
So glad I got to see them while I could still last in the pit.
still amazing in 2022 !!!
I've always liked these bad boys
hardcore will never die
This is frickin awesome
The 50 year old in me is telling the 17 year old in me to buy a 12 pack of Coors and bash a bottle over someone's head then mine!!!
cimon limon
Just turned 50 and the first album I listened to as a 50 year old was Dayglo Abortions.
Then Poison Idea. I thought to myself, what else would these guys do if they weren't self destructive punk maniacs.
I'd do the same if I could find a handful of others within 10 years, but punk is an ageist thing and the kids looked at me funny 20 years ago when I finally picked up a guitar.
Older outcasts have a lot to prove, guess I'm in it for the ling haul. Or short. However many days are left
Dayglo Abortions = my first show in 85 or 86. They didnt weigh as much, but they go nice together
@@DaveAnchovies I luv DGA!
@@DaveAnchovies Carry the hardcore punk in your hart, it will never die!
The best American hardcore 7". Take your Neg Approach, Minor Threat, Koro, Boston stuff etc... This is the one that stands head and shoulders above them all.
For me it's a toss up between this ep and Antidote thou shall not kill ep
If were to die .in the next 3 mths it would be this and 82 bootlegs of Husker Du as the nest hc ever produced..just makes sense.
i also like what we want is free, iq 32, nervous breakdown, government issue, there’s a ton but this is definitely one of the best i’ve ever heard
@@superionunleashed Yeah that Antidote ep is amazing, I used to see them at CBGB matinées in the early 80's. The Cause For Alarm is up there also.
i agree
One of the best
Simplesmente espetacular devastador lendario historico imortal
Powerful stuff
The drumming on in my headache is amazing
Lo mejor de lo mejorrrr!!!
awesome memories
Used to go see these badass hardcore boys at the crystal ball room in Portland, saw em at the community world theater in Tacoma wash
Someone once told me Feel the Darkness was the best Poison Idea record. Years later that's still absolutely not true.
Was a giant huge poison idea fan but was growing sick of the. Metal they starting playing... Feel the darkness brought back that Portland feel... Almost as good as record collectors ep
You spend way too much time with Pantera folk. Not even close. K.o.p. , p.y.k or, War all the time?
@@lornemajor6591 you assume a lot about a person from a single album preference. do you know their political beliefs too lol
Poison dla mnie zawsze do przodu był :P
One of the best u.s.h.c records ever?
Absolutely
timeless record !!!!
perfect production, love the guitar tone
This is perfect for a 1990's skate video section. This would def be my first pick if I was ever to have another video part!
Fucking do it!!! Grind and bleed for it
Muy apreciados en Barcelona y todo el mundo. Estoy contento
This is Their Best, My Fave from PoisonIdea.
First time I heard it, I knew there was no going back. Balls to the wall HC!
got it when came out... still rules
got it in 83 and still so good
magnífico mãe
I’m 26 and I’m barely getting addicted to hc punk. This shit is so fun goddamn
cool band too they rocked gilman street in berkeley california we played with them .
Which band by chance?
I love Poison Idea
This was 80s hardcore at it's best.
One of the best ever
ESCUCHO ESTO DESDE LOS 15 AÑOS
Reggae (I Hate) !! im sure it brings most brits to tears...😂
Obrigado João gordo por mostrar essa perola
Perfect record all around. I’ll not acknowledge any prior poster or provider of any props as that’s absolutely absurd. This record is classic regardless of a repost from someone more acclimated to social media.
The most european Hard Core in USA. and I like it.
That's great
That's sound so good
Nice
13 tracks and not a single guitar solo. Just BLISS. The only serious challenger to the Bad Brains ROIR cassette.
best hardcore that will ever be
They ought to speed it up a little
First real hardcore release in the US. A classic. Loved it then, love it now.
💯💪🏽HCPUNK seen them in the LBC at Fenders RIP
💙
I LOVE the line in cult band "you paid that much for this"... It's like a prediction that yeah you record collector nerd... It's gonna be worth $$$!
I think he says "You paid how much for this?" At least that's how I've always heard it.
НИШТЯКОВЫЙ АЛЬБОМ!"!!!!
underrated as hell man
Wow! Just when I thought I heard every great punk band!?
70 yrs later an you still caynt beat yha kings of punk
Punk lendário
They only played Boston twice in 10 years I saw them the second time with my friend fan working through special ever hung out with pig champion after the show

Still harder than most shit out there 40 years later
EP Eterno \m/
i love funk
The drumming makes this fuckin amazing,
Não existe mais bandas de Hardcore como antigamente 😢
Hard rippin'
This is the way.
The one with ELVIS on the front just as good 😂
Elvis is on the back.
😍
Thought this was the fastest thing i'd ever heard at the time! it sounds slow now after all the Grindcore I've heard since and bands like Gauze
