Thanks David, I have been looking for this for ages. Think it was episodes originally but this brings the memories flooding back especially getting my Rochester posting! 21 of us all going down there at the same time, with accomodation promised and nothing done about it.
I passed out from Newbold Revel in 2005. On day 1 we were required to march but there was no requirement after that. I remember being 20 years old and thinking Jesus what have I done! The last year number 1 uniform was issued was 03/04, luckily my friend had one and gifted it me on his departure from the service, I still have it today and they are rare now. It’s a shame HMPS didn’t remain a discipline service. To my mind it must go back to being one rather than the airy fairy service it is today. I’m sure most real officers would agree.
Thanks for the upload love prison documentarys the old ones are the best. Prison his a joke now in the uk spice and drugs are easyer to get than on the streets. U got people who go in to make big money and its weel none i been in prison for a few weeks and half the prisoners are of there heads on spice and other drugs the other half makeing money seeling or giveing out bacca and food for double back. Ps4 tv dvd,s stero phones anything u can get out hear u can get in prison now. Not judgeing but think alot of inmates wouldnt wont to go back if prison was like it was back in the 70,s 80,s i no i wouldnt the screws were roughless
Having been a prisoner in the UK and Jamaica I would think twice about having a go at Jamaican warders. their system is a little different. they have warders in grey uniform, same stripe system. But then they have overseers dressed in green, intimidating men, usually ex army. they walk around with a "swagger stick " but they are there to keep the warders in order as much as the prisoners. A far more violent system, they don't mess around with shields and batons. If the general alarm sounds the staff head straight to the armoury, they all have their own side arm, usually a .38 special or a .357 magnum and some carry shotguns also. I was unfortunate enough to experience a riot in General Penitentiary Kingston Jamaica. Saw many shot in front of me. Had shots wizzing past my head. Believe me even Charles Bronson and the whole uk system is like nursery school in comparison. People say prison is tough here. I say BULLSHIT. 14 people killed that day in the riot. 1 warder and 13 prisoners. That's about the ratio they aim for. As a white man i was seen as "soft" so during the riot it was the prisoners that kept me alive. I was bundled into a cell by some of the seniors prisoners on the wing whom i had been teaching to read and write. I owe them my life. They know who they are but without Linval Moodie I wouldn't be here to share this with you. RIP Linval.
TBH, the trainees look a bit all over the show. Hopefully, as "professional experience" kicks in, it will knock the edges off that, or someone's gonna get hurt... The shrink had his shit together, for real.
This was filmed around the same time as HM Prison Service's Fresh Start initiative in 1986/7. This programme was a follow-on and update of a series of three half-hour programmes filmed at Newbold Revel in 1987 or 1988 and you can see the students are still wearing the older prison uniform which was blue rather than black.
They will have to build higher walls around prison to stop people from getting in for a holiday especially with the gas and electricity bills are up 120% food prices are going up every week
Ive been on the other side as a con . After spending most of my adult life in the army .found myself in prison within 6 months of leaving the army. I was one of those cons .who got on with everyone cons & po .found a good few po with chips on there shoulders. I understand its not an easy job but dont take it out on me. Met some great po,s always there for a chat same as most cons where decent. What did prison teach me absotley nothing
