In case you were curious:
Banish 1 Fusion Monster and 2 Xyz Monsters with the same Rank from your Extra Deck, whose combined Level and Ranks equal the total number of cards in both players' hands and on the field, then you can apply this effect.
● Return 2 of your banished monsters to the Extra Deck (1 Xyz and 1 Fusion) whose combined Level and Rank equal the Level or Rank of 1 face-up monster your opponent controls, then banish all cards they control.
both ridiculous, perhaps but 1 is never playable while the other toolboxes the extra deck.

You really need to do your homework if you go on talking about modern yugioh implications of these cards.
It’s really fascinating to me that we have a YuGiOh designer here saying Grass was banned not because it was too powerful with up to 20 GY effects or because it warped the game so much by forcing 60 card decks, but because it took too long to resolve. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone cite that as one of the main reasons it was banned before.

@@pockit5107 Trying to arrange chain links in Tearlaments was enough of a nightmare on Kit's mill 8, let alone on a mill 20 going first or god forbid something like a mill 40 going 2nd.
About Theia, going by how some older cards work, it can only tribute your OWN monsters and not the opponents because it does not specifically say so. For example, "Subterror Nemesis Warrior" says "Tribute this card and at least 1 other monster so the total..." and, despite simply saying "other monster", it can only tribute monsters on your field (This is explicitly stated in the Japanese text).
To my knowledge there is no card that simply says "tribute a monster(s)" without anything else (i.e. "opponent's monster", "as many on the field", "target 1 monster; tribute it") that can tribute an opponent's monster.
Also, based on the wording, the summoning restriction is also not retroactive like "Summon Limit". It specfically only counts summons that occurred while it's face up on the field (like "El Shaddoll Winda")
The intended use for Theia is to tribute either a Nibiru (if you Nib the opponent) or Nibiru token (if the opponent Nibs you) to summon herself, essentially breaking out of the rock (I assume the rocks in the corner of the artwork is meant to be parts of Nibiru)
The tribute rule is much easier than people think for these cases:
- if the card specifically say "either field/both fields" you can use your and enemy monsters;
- if the card say "you can use monsters from the opponent field" (see kaiju) it means all tributed monsters must be from one single field, either your or enemy;
- if it say "from the enemy field" it means only their field;
- if it say "from the field" it means only yours.
Interesting. I originally thought the card was mega broken, but realizing you have to tribute yourself and it only counting retroactively, I think it's really bad.
It's in the rulebook that tributing always implies only your own cards unless specified otherwise. You can't tribute 3 opponent monsters to summon D hero Plasma for example.

Yeah, it almost feels like a text error that it doesn't Tribute the opponent's monsters. It would have seen some play then, but the way it's actually written there's no way this sees any play whatsoever. It's also extremely unlikely to be ruled like Summon Limit, given it says "while face-up on the field". Making it more like Winda. So again, even less reason to play it.

@@monkfishy6348 It's designed to be a follow-up to Nibiru. You tribute Nib right after using it and now your opponent is locked. Of course you'd need to have both Nib and Theia in hand.

one notable thing about fenrir re: its usability in the ocg vs tcg. fenrir is REAL GOOD into maxx c, cuz u get it on board for free unless ur opponent maxxes pre-emptively (which is usually a suckass thing to do), and he's both a good boy to end on in his own right but also a free body that u can use for ur combo that gives u a leg up on ur opponent's maxx c. that makes him a pretty tempting auto-include in any deck just cuz it's a nice maxx c answer that also has alot of other utility.
in tcg, we have no maxx c. the specter over our format is nibiru, which fenrir sucks shit into. there are alot of decks that have a precise combo to play around nib by either 1. putting up a negate in 4-5 summons, 2. putting together an end board in 4 summons, or 3. just playing thru the nibiru after it resolves. in all three of these scenarios fenrir is a liability, messing up the math on ur combo lines or just dying to the nib if u choose to play thru.

You can tell Cimo stopped playing, because it wasn't Linear Equation Cannon that saw play:
It was Simultaneous Equation Cannons, which is waaaay easier to resolve, isn't restricted to the battle phase, and has a bigger payoff (banishing the opponent's entire board).
It does require 12+ extra deck slots though. Otherwise it would probably see play in more decks even.

That looks like a fun game, reminds me of WOW:TCG Raids. As it also was 1v3. Or MTG Archenemy which is also 1v3. I must say it's a much more pleasurable experience to be had than a 1v1 back and forth, and it's faster than let's say Commander, so it really warms my heart to see a new Card game that really tries to catch that archenemy style of play. And it's always fun to be the BBEG.
That was an inspiration for the game actually! Matt said to me that some of the most fun he ever had playing TCGs was with the Icecrown raid

Theia's summon limit effect does not count summons from before it is summoned; it specifically says "while this card is face-up in the Monster Zone".

Some things about Theia. It doesn't say it can tribute your opponents monsters and therefore cannot without something else granting the ability (lair of darkness).
Also, it would not work like summon limit. It would work more like winda. Winda doesn't count summons until it is on the field
I kinda hate it when people don't bring up the context around Dragoon and why it was bad in the TCG but dominated in the OCG. But the TL:DR is they got it near the end of Toss format, and we got it after Secret Slayers. Dragoons is amazing, but it doesn't really hold up to Block Dragon and Eldlich
Dragoon pass was also a "good enough" endboard if your opponent resolved the bug, which TCG did not have. This was a big deal toward its popularity in OCG compared to TCG.
As a person who played a lot of different CGs but never YuGiOh - I'd say YuGiOh is absolutely cracked. And by that I mean it's a card game on crack :D

I love how he was going more so into how THEIA works LIKE Nibiru. Each time I've read the card I've always considered it more as like an ANTI Nib card as it tributes a lvl 11 monster (like the Nibiru token given to you by your opponents Nibiru) then pops a monster with the highest attack which it is tied with Nibiru for. Then locks the board afterwards against your opponent with the 4 summons. So I've always just seen it as a counter to being hit with Nibiru to allow for some kind of recovery if the deck you are playing is unable to continue combo after the smashy rock comes down. Seeing a different perspective was really cool.
The board breaking question at 14:24 is nuts considering how long he's been out of YuGiOh. Speaks to his insight and forethought as a card game designer for how he was able to piece together how games go now just from context clues.

Theia would've been playable if it either: locked summoning for the rest of the turn on successful summon (not just 4 summon lock while its face-up lol) OR it at least tributed your opponent's monsters to summon itself

Time-Tearing Morganite goes crazy in umi lock decks
It goes great in any hard control deck tbh. Paleo uses it really well, stun uses it really well, my friend who I'm convinced is deranged at this point is trying to convince me it's good in Sky Striker. If you play all gas, except that gas was the one in Cars 2 that blew everyone's engines out and stops them from moving, it's not a bad inclusion.

I've never played Yu-Gi-Oh and don't understand much of what's going on, but I still watch every one of these videos. They're so fun!
I play morganite and it works really well in my rogue stall deck. It is basically boomer support and the key is to build your deck around it rather than trying to splash it in your deck full of hand monsters.
That was the wrong equation cannon. The one that saw play was Simultaneous Equation Cannon.
The best way to resolve Linear Equation cannon is targeting a level 1 monster. That way you can declare a high number like 5 or 6 that multiplied by 1 would be the same and then a max of 12 cards is what you need in your graveyard which is completely doable and easy to track. The higher the level of your opponents monster the lower you want your declared number to make it even conceivable to get a yes.
Sadly its very inconsistent, i played like 10 games and resolved it 2 times and 3 times it was a brick (5times didnt see it as it was a 1 of in 40ish card deck).
Playing tear paleo so a good amount of mill power and transaction rollback to copy it, id say its the perfect deck for linear cannon but its too situation al and you absolutely dont wont to see it in the opening hand and also dont want to mill it too early. If you open with another trap brick like rollback or trivikarma, if you manager to discard them in some way they are immediatly useful, this becomes the elemental burst in pure paleo, but if you want to play a brick as a only rollback target there are better options like elemental burst or EEV
@@alexandrubragari1537 I mean Linear is just bad even if is consistent tbh. I also play Paleo Tear and I've never once considered using that card. Being only usable during the BF makes it worse than just about every other card I'd rather be playing like Needle Ceiling or DDKC, and there's better Rollback targets. You only get 1 Rollback a turn, I want more than just a battle trick.

You know what at 6:53 where he says that dragoon is better than towers, which it is but the ironic thing is that if towers and dragoon are the only monsters on the field then dragoon can not out towers without destroying itself but towers can out dragoon.

Somehow while I was on the section about Chaotic Magical Dragon the video skipped to Theia. I assumed it was just a weird cut until I moused over the progress bar and saw the cards that got skipped over.
You got both effects of The Primal Being wrong. It only tributes your own monsters, and it only counts summons that occurred while it was on the field.

Linear undoubtedly is wordy/can be a bit confusing, but I see how it is used/a potential application for it.
Call a number1-6, then choose a monster your opponent controls and multiply it by the number chosen.
So if they have a level 4 monster on the field you activate this card, call 6 for example, the number would be 24. (+ up to 12 controlled cards)
Then you count the cards in your graveyard, (if you are keeping track it shouldn't be too hard to call this number right, though having to rely on your opponent to be playing a monster whos number can be multiplied by the number of cards in your gy + number of cards controlled by opponent, forcing them to shuffle everything back, while not impossible, the time frame where that would be useful, is arguably not worth it.) but count it right, shuffle opponents full field which could indeed be useful to get rid of boss monsters.

Call it wrong and do so on purpose. (Especially with the cards that can copy other cards affects, like transaction rollback/dinomorphia reversion etc.)
Activate this card as soon as they have one card that is a level 4 on the board, call 6, the number would be 25, oh no i am wrong. - I take 3000 damage, or do i? (As the damage is limited to the declared number x 500, not the final result number. - Something that caused me to delete my original post.)
I chain "Barrel behind the door" or any other card that forces your opponent to take the damage instead.

It is still a trap card, but yea the potential for a quick one turn kill is easily there, especially since so much of it is unlimited/the cards that allow you to search the trap cards out.
I am honestly not sure how consistent I will be able to make it and honestly, I am sure others could make it better than I could, but yea, that is the application i saw .
Good idea of a vid but the problem is Matt Bell is aware of a lot of 'new' cards, so you can only catch him off guard with cards post 2022, which Cimo himself has no clue about because he stopped looking at modern cards at that time. The ones that DID matter Cimo gets either the card or the effect wrong...
IMO, the point is always the discussion anyways, the game is just a way to start those discussions

You know, they could just print a yugioh card nowadays of "After this resolves, for the rest of the duel you draw 2 cards for your draw phase instead of 1" and it would never see play because games just end too fast. People would try to make it work, but it just wouldn't work. Could be draw 6, still wouldn't see play and thats just sad.
From my limited experience with the more current game. Yeah drawing two cards a turn is insane but not being able to activate hand traps is a killer. Considering Ash is a staple.
If my opponent flips a Linear Equation Cannon, I don't have any other response then "sure" for the rest of that game

Fenrir not being OPT on its summon is also so goofy. Summon Fenrir activate effect to fetch another. Threaten battle phase and they pretty much have to do something about it so if they pop it or whatever you just summon the other copy in MP2 which STILL has the banish effect available to insulate your other plays to an extent.
Theia only counts monsters summoned while it's on the field. It's worded like El Shaddoll Winda, not Summon Limit.
It is always worrying that when a former yugioh designer is very excited every time they see a stun-enabling card.
I'm not too sold on Theia. The implication is you play it alongside Nibiru and it ends your opponents turn if they fell for Nibiru. But that's kinda DisneyLand. Theia is not really searchable and would find itself as more of an endboard piece. Maybe if there's a way to summon it from deck.
It doesn't even end their turn, bcs it doesnt count previous summons. It is literally ueless. Even as a 4 summon floodgate, it wouldnt be good if you could cheat it out of the deck.

Problem with that game he is proposing is that it needs 4 players who are inequal.
A whole card game built around 3v1 sounds like a balance nightmare. Magic has a game mode that is exactly that, archenemy, and it’s a fun gimmick but nobody takes it seriously
It's been a interesting challenge for sure. Robot Raiders is designed for a group of friends to sit down together and have fun with a challenge. We currently are not looking to run organized play. Think of it as a game you play at the end of a YCS when you want to hang out and play cards while having a few drinks, or grabbing your best player and seeing if they can beat 3 of you at the same time.

Fenrir is better Pankratops because you can play Fenrir going first, but going second Pankratops is still better usually.
Listening about placing fenrir as UR or SR just made me hate TCG product development team hate more . FY , give us OCG printing scheme or just wait for paper ygh to die .

52:48 - Small thing Matt missed here, your xyz monster doesn't need to have battled. An xyz monster on your opponent's field having battled that turn is sufficient.
As a hand trap, Theia is trash. It would require you to open a three of hand trap to do anything. Going first you would rather just play the flood gates than something as situational as this. Maybe eventually some degen combo can end on this card in some shape or form, but not as a hand trap.
Yeah its actually more useful going first to put a summon limit on opponent lol and im pretty sure post side you just put in something like ddg that is an actual turn skip and your fine.
techinaly teia is searchable but if you want to build a deck as gimmicky to put this as part of your combo just play an ftk and its probably more consistent lol

Second time asking you to talk to Kalikaiz about Pauper MtG! Imo it’s kinda like magics version of Edison if you squint. It’s a legacy format and has an extensive banlist of cards, some were even too busted and were pre banned when the format was created officially on MtGO
I think something you might've missed with Theia is that it seems like it's designed to work directly with Nibiru to basically end your opponent's turn.
It'd go something like this: Tribute the field to summon Nibiru + the token -> Tribute Nib to summon Theia and use its effect to destroy the token -> Your opponent's field is empty and they can't summon anymore that turn.
theia says "while this monster is in the face up monster zone" at the end of it's last effect so I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like summon limit, it would only start counting once it's summon has resolved wouldn't it?
