I couldn't get rid of the feeling he assumed you need some special monsters (or he assumed level is something special that only certain monsters have) to XYZ instead of literally ANY monster of the specified level

I think its important to note that while Emeral drawing a card is good, the main reason the card is so good is the recycling. The card not being once per turn and being able to recycle other copies of itself has created many infinite loops where you use Emeral to repeatedly recycle the same 2 cards plus itself to keep fueling the loop. Or you can have a deck like Blue-Blooded Oni Ftk that specifically abused a loop like this for the draw, basically using Emeral’s ability to fuel these loops to loop the Emeral itself, drawing its entire deck
Emeral being able to recycle cards that may not be legal at 3 copies (and not being hard-once per turn) is why its stuck at 1 copy. So you can't loop recycle Emeral with a second copy of itself, especially since you can now easily get the first copy into the graveyard by linking it off.

To be fair, depending on archetype, 1 level 10 monster can be easy to bring out. But can you do it twice? Tri-Wight is a one card XYZ because its a spell card that lets you special summon 3 low level monsters. Nothing like that exists for higher level monsters, so getting the resources for a high rank XYZ can still be tricky even if the archetype can bring out that level of monster easier than others.
I mean you say that but one of the cards was Rhongomyniad, and the difficulty fully summoning it at max power was a major factor in its analysis and the lifespan of the card. We also did almost nothing above Rank 4. It was largely irrelevant but not for all the cards, so just chill out a bit. :)
Blindly evaluating Emeral as an MtG player with some decent Yugioh knowledge, I knew it was good. I put it on a like Mind Sculptor level of power. I didn’t even think of it recycling itself though, that’s nasty.

@@semperignotus to be fair its unconfirmed whose under the armor but just the most likely culprit is Caam, Serenity of Gusto the gusto archetype is part of the terminal world lore during the 2nd generation of its plot and during this time all the conflict between the various fraction within the story was put on hold for an alliance against the verz invasion so all of the archetypes that were a part of the lore during this time had some like 1-3 monsters that were essentially a collaboration between 2 different fractions and you could sus out who was who base on either the card art and/or the parameters such as the stats or effects for example so daigusto emeral is basically caam wearing Gem-Knight Emerald as armor the logic is that they both share the same lvl of 4 which makes them valid materials to form emeral and both of emeral's effect is essentially just upgraded versions of caam and emerald, caam shuffles back 2 gusto monster from your grave to deck to draw 1 while emerald can banish himself and another normal monsters to resurrect a gem-knight fusion monster from the grave so as emeral the shuffle back increases to 3 from 2 and isnt restricted to gustos anymore while emerald's effect gets its steep cost removed but also nerfing the effect a bit since it no longers revives any gem-knight fusion and only non-effect monsters which is something that gem-knight is centered around though aged badly
Daigusto Emeral, was effin disgusting as a card, I think my friend at one point when I was playing against him, summoned Emeral 5 times on his first turn... and I mean, I too had degenerate BS in my deck, but when you go through 20 cards on your turn 1, with 40 cards in your deck... My friend had Degen decks for days... Nurse Burn, Heroic Challenger, Quasar OTK, Red Nova OTK, Ghostrick, Firefist, Dragon Ruler, etc... Meanwhile the most degen BS I ever had was Qliphort... okay that's not true, I did have the Gallis the Star Beast FTK.
Thanks to the ""soft once per turn"" mechanic Emeral can loop and draw basically your entire deck by shuffling back itself, remaking it, getting rid of the old one, shuffle it back again, repeat
You should probably prepare a short video demonstration on how the summoning mechanic works for them so they don’t get so hung up on the potential difficulty of getting these cards out. Just explaining it with word salad makes it a little hard to grasp for people with little yugioh experience.

@mjdragonmaster6559 not hard once per turn though. Wind-up was more than capable of making 2. Yeah bro please play the game where I call monster+spell on turn 1 so you literally can't do anything and then on turn 3 I call monster+trap so I can just push for game. Very fun and interactive card.
When it was first released, it didn't see much play, because A) 3 materials meant you went at least -1 to play it, sometimes -2 B) It doesn't get you card advantage, it stops your opponent from playing cards but it doesn't destroy/negate their cards or remove them from their hand, so it doesn't help make back the cards you lost to summon it, and C) the game was slow enough that you could survive a turn or two with being locked out by Shock Master most of the time, plus most decks ran removal in the form of Monsters, Spells, and Traps, so you could deal with Shock Master most of the time as well. All in all, it was "too fast" of a card to be viable in slower Yugioh. The meta sped up really quickly shortly after it was released though, and in about a year it was starting to see some niche play, and shortly after that became the best thing in the game and got banned.
Great video as always. I hope in future videos Cimo does a better job explaining the mechanic. Going over it by word of mouth is a bit nebulous to a newcomer. Would like to see him demonstrate overlaying and detaching via a graphic or gameplay footage before showcasing the cards
@@andreicecold4379 While that is true, Ranran does say in the video he doesnt remember the mechanic (Cimo even makes a joke at it, saying he cant believe he got to that rank without knowing what the card type is). The visualization will help Ranran, and other guests, conceptualize things that might not be apparent right away, like how they exist in the Extra Deck and arent played immediately from hand (Ranran says he forgot about this in this same video) and how they can easily be made by having matching Levels just by going through your combo and doing an Xyz Monster as a “bonus” / something you dont always have to do. He did a good job in a previous video, showcasing how to conduct a Synchro 8 with Cyber Dragon and Dark Resonator. Would love to see him do things like “Here is Goblindbergh and Coach Soldier Wolfbark (*explains effects*). As you can see, these cards can put you in situations where you can easily find yourself with 2 Level 4 monsters on the field (*explains Xyz Mechanic*). You can also find yourself in these situations by playing cards like Monster Reborn” etc Like, I feel like one thing that outsiders miss when it comes to these mechanics is the natural flow of how Yugioh cards often work towards creating these monsters. Between that, and expressing how there are many options in the Extra Deck one can go into, I think it would better inform or illustrate why people use the mechanic in the first place.
Emeral drawing a card was a bonus effect. It was the fact it enabled so many degenerate loops that got it shot. There is a reason the card sees LITERALLY ZERO play at 1 copy and why it is going to stay there.

Misunderstanding Emeral is so wild to me. Like, shuffling three back isn't hurting the consistency of your deck. You already saw those cards, used them, and were happy to see them, and now you can search or draw them again your next turn to do it all over again. You're not shuffling back trash, you're shuffling back important resources you need in your deck.
Having resources in your deck is almost always worse than having them in your graveyard. There’s a reason why nobody plays avarice anymore. It’s only good because of the loops

@MegaMetal96 So many modern combos rely on having search targets in deck, and if your lines allow you to play less copies of those targets by recycling them, it's a giant upside. Shuffling them back is in no way a downside if you build smart.
Emeral is a card that hasn't aged as well as many others. Part of what made Emeral so nuts was how efficiently some decks could loop itself, and when you would face grindier matchups you had an option to just extend the game out and win that way. That playstyle doesn't hold up as well as it does, and 2 monsters for an 1800 draw a card is nothing special these days. It also hurts that it's partner in crime Lavalval Chain is still axed, and the two could easily pivot between each other in the same engine quite well. Avarice can't be recycled, but Emeral is a monster, and that matters a LOT. It's even an extra deck to grab it on command, but it's not perfect.
Yesss, the mechanic that i was first introduced to and still my favorite mechanic in the game to this day. Been waiting for this. Edit: Awww no Rank-Up spells or CXYZ/C Numbers, well ig maybe that would've been a bit too much at once for Rarran. Also in the unlikely case Rarran may read this. The "Number" in the name of some monsters is for anime reasons. In the Yu-Gi-Oh show that introduced XYZ monsters there's this dude from another dimension who's memories were shattered once he came to earth, those memories took physical form as 100 "Number" Cards. The very first one Cimooo showed you, Number 39, is actually the Ace monster of the protag. The irl reason is very likely that they just wanted an additional reason for people to go buy these cards, collecting all of those special Number Monsters.

Such an effect will break any card game.
I'm like 99.9% positive that Rarran would have seen a Zeus... if not multiple Zeus' in master duel if he made it to diamond on sword soul. I mean, even decks that don't commonly make xyz monster will still run an xyz monster of some kind just because Zeus exists. Sure, maybe he never read the card entirely, but to not recognize it? I am shocked. He's an exceptionally recognizable card just as much as Baron or Appo/Access.

I realized that when I came back to the game last year. I tried to summon a rank 4 monster using a lvl 4 and a tank 4 monster and was told I couldn't because rank and level are not the same.
@@ThetrueKidGoku Stuff like that was a plot point in the anime. A monster affected attacks of lower leveled monsters, the protagonist had to explain ranks were not levels and the effect didn’t work.
apparently lorewise xyz monsters were originally conceived as beings from another dimension materialized with bodies of anti-matter and they basically traverse through dimension to the field from the other side of a black hole which is why the stars representing their ranks is on the left instead of the right representing how they're very much an inverse abnormality they are and even their summoning animation in all media involves a black hole or more specifically the materials turning into streams of energy being sucked into a black hole colliding within and then an xyz monster emerging from the resulting explosion like some particle collider experiment gone wrong they have moved away from this idea pretty quickly so it doesnt pertain to all xyz monster but its still interesting to see how this influenced the card template design for xyz monster
@@YukiFubuki. It's also very smart from a design decision. It gets around a lot of the issues with Synchros and balancing they ran into. Stops you from chaining them into themselves, except in very specific lines they wanted.
I think the best way to look at card draw in YGO is to see drawing a card outside of the normal draw phase as having the additional text of "Draw 1 card. Refresh half your mana crystals". By that I mean, it's not just drawing a card, it's also giving you "mana" because like Cimo keeps saying, "The cards ARE the resource."
I was kind of Happy to see Zeus at the end. Loved that card, especially since it looks like something out of Gundam. And it was fun to have in the Zoodiac deck that I played (I Think it was Something + Zoodiac at the time.)
It was a delight to see Zeus show up at the end, easily one of my favorite xyz monsters of all time... mainly because I use him with my Melffy deck, and the idea this massive gundam is being operated by cute woodland critters from some PBS show is hilarious to me.
Crew in MTG: Artifacts with the subtype Vehicle that become powerful over statted creatures until end of turn by tapping a creature with power greater or equal to the Crew cost. I.E. Smuggler's Copter: 2 Mana Artifact - Vehicle, Crew 1, becomes a flying 3/3 with the effect of whenever it attacks or blocks you may draw a card, but you then have to discard a card if you did.
best part about redoer is it's not detaching material in the traditional way so effects of monster that trigger when sent to the graveyard so you can use something like tearlaments scheiren to make redoer to get a guaranteed fusion effect on the opponents turn.
As an additional cost to cast CARDNAME, exile two creatures you control with mana value 4. Put a card exiled with CARDNAME into its owners graveyard: Regenerate CARDNAME. Activate only if CARDNAME is blocked or blocking. If CARDNAME would block or be blocked, and there are no cards exiled with its ability, instead destroy CARDNAME.
Rarran explained crew in a bit of a misleading way. You do not attach crewed creatures to the vehicle. You tap the creatures required, and the vehicle becomes a creature. The creatures that crewed can be untapped, and if the vehicle is destroyed, the creatures that crewed are not effected. What rarran is describing is closer to a card like mimeoplasm, or modular cards
Just wanted to say something. First of all, I'm glad these whole cross TCG universe exist. Secondly, I'm glad Cimo*8 does this series in a somewhat progressive manner. I have a limited understanding in TCG apart from MTG. I knew very little about yugioh and never played it for real, similar to pokemon. My understanding comes from the chaos destiny game series which I love i.e. early days of ygo similar to pokemon tcg for gb (which I prefer to the actual pokemon game itself). Suffice to say ygo has evolved quite a lot from the early days. I wasnt particularly interested to go back playing ygo and all the different special summon mechanics was a huge headache to me. I could at any time go browse and learn them one by one but tbh I'm too lazy and cant be bothered to do that. So this series and Cimo*8's in particular is perfect for me. Syntax is still a huge issues when it comes to ygo wording but thats just a _me_ problem. Thanks Cimo*8!!

I know not enough about YuGiOh - but from what I've learnt in these videos is that the game is over on turn 1-2. Either someone won or locked their opponent in almost every single game. More like a game of solitaire honestly, who had the best draw with exact number of answers and threats to win instantly :D
The time that I played Yu-Gi-Oh was right before pendulums came out. I don't think Rhongomyniad was in the game yet but I remember a mate telling me about it and I legit thought he was making stuff up. It didn't sound like a real card.
With CGB or LSV, you gotta show them Azothot and see their reaction to the wonderful world of "Activated Non-Activated effects", effects that have essentially activated effects, but dont activate, so your opponent simply cannot respond or do anything since they "Just Happen" lol
One of the other less talked about things for daigusto emeral is that, lets say shockmaster for example is put to 1 or trishula or some insanely powerful extra deck card is limited to reduce how much you can loop it since looping it is broken. Daigusto effectively just acts as another copy of that card letting you go into more of them. Essentially the more consistent and spammy your deck is, the less the limited/semi limited list matters to you with daigusto emeral. With multiple copies of the Emeral you also go infinite and with prio existing you couldnt really respond easily to its effect.
For the purpose of the video it might been best to say they just easy to summon. Cimo said high level cards might not be so easy, but there several 8-10 level monsters that special summons themselves with the only downsides that their stats are super low and the effects might say they can more or less only be used to XYZ summon... many many just take one card, they tend to go like this "If you have no monster, special summon this and add another monster card to your hand" -> The monster you added:"If you have a monster on the board with the same level as this one, special summon this one"... In short you can pretty much one-card combo to any XYZ monster that only need two monsters.

Idk why people thought Beatrice should be allowed to stay. If anything Beatrice being legal for so long would rather indicate Chain could come back since it is objectively a worse card since Beatrice is "basically" guaranteed to bin 2 (which is necessary to do a lot of the rollback shenanigans).
I think Beatrice was supposed to be harder to summon than lavalval, and it was for a time. But then it stopped being the case and the situation got silly

There was a card called Card Car D that really exemplifies how good drawing cards was in Yugioh. It basically read "If you normal summoned this card you can tribute it and skip your turn to draw 2 cards and skip your turn." Getting +1 card advantage was so strong that skipping your entire turn (with the exception of maybe clearing some opponent cards with spells, or setting some traps) was worth it. That card fell out of meta eventually as the game became faster, but drawing even 1 extra card used to be good enough that skipping your whole turn was worth it.
@theghostcreator776 It definitely was, it just fell off over time. It got 1st place in 2 separate YCSs shortly after it was released, and saw play in hundreds of top YCS decks from 2012 to 2015, even winning 1st in a handful of Nationals in decks like Chain Burn and Traptrix.
Finally XYZ cards, I've been waiting for these. On a side note, I still think it's hilarious how in the anime only Number cards could destroy Number cards, which would make them absolutely busted.
XYZ are reverse pokemon cards, and materials are energies. Pokemon come into play without energies and get stronger as you attach more. XYZs come into the field with "energies", and they run out of juice as you detach those "energies."" I think that's a good way to explain them.
Again. I think it would be easier if Cimo pulled out YGO Pro and just showed how these summons are done instead of trying to explain it. Seems much easier than having to explain.
Rarran talking about 2 level 7 monsters during Big Eye: "I don't know man, seems tough to get out." Me, a Harpie player with Big Eye in my Rank 7 package: "Nah! You just Channeler; discard Harpest; special out Pet Dragon FFB; if you have Oracle, you special her from hand; and boom you can have a rank 7 off of ~1.5 cards."
There is a loophole against the XYZ Number monster 86 Heroic champion, even though its effect says your opponent cannot normal summon or special summon, the card never said you can set summon or flip summon against number 86.
The best deck which could use emeral was zoo. Like drawing a card is nice, but when you have a deck like zoo the recycle eff becomes VERY important. Putting back 2 zoo XYZ's like a used Drident + Emeral or 2 Ratpiers + Emeral was INSANE.
It's funny, because originally, Shock Master was considered really bad, and Daigusto Emeral was in fact better than Lavalval Chain. Shock Master was bad because it was a -2 (You have to use 3 level 4 monsters to get 1 card, and even though it prevents your opponent from playing things, it doesn't actually remove those cards from your opponent's hand, so the effect didn't net card advantage). The game was slow enough that going -2 (-1 if you had more efficient ways to summon it) to lock your opponent out of a third of their cards wasn't good enough. Daigusto Emeral was also better than Lavalval Chain in a lot of decks because the game was slow enough that having more cards in deck were relevant for some decks, and drawing a card was better than tutoring for a card to put it on top of your deck and not drawing it. The self-mill effect of Lavalval chain was strong, but not egregious enough yet for it to be better than drawing a card. EDIT: With similar logic, in old school yugioh, Felgrand would've been better than Shock Master because it would've gotten rid of your opponent's threat instead of just delaying it for a turn. Luckily, Felgrand didn't exist in 2011-2012.

Emerald could easily be Unlimited. It's not really that good at 3, the OCG and Master Duel have had it at 3 for a long time without issues.

Nothing like that exists for higher level monsters, so getting the resources for a high rank XYZ can still be tricky even if the archetype can bring out that level of monster easier than others.
I mean you say that but one of the cards was Rhongomyniad, and the difficulty fully summoning it at max power was a major factor in its analysis and the lifespan of the card.

the gusto archetype is part of the terminal world lore during the 2nd generation of its plot and during this time all the conflict between the various fraction within the story was put on hold for an alliance against the verz invasion so all of the archetypes that were a part of the lore during this time had some like 1-3 monsters that were essentially a collaboration between 2 different fractions and you could sus out who was who base on either the card art and/or the parameters such as the stats or effects for example so daigusto emeral is basically caam wearing Gem-Knight Emerald as armor
the logic is that they both share the same lvl of 4 which makes them valid materials to form emeral and both of emeral's effect is essentially just upgraded versions of caam and emerald, caam shuffles back 2 gusto monster from your grave to deck to draw 1 while emerald can banish himself and another normal monsters to resurrect a gem-knight fusion monster from the grave so as emeral the shuffle back increases to 3 from 2 and isnt restricted to gustos anymore while emerald's effect gets its steep cost removed but also nerfing the effect a bit since it no longers revives any gem-knight fusion and only non-effect monsters which is something that gem-knight is centered around though aged badly
Daigusto Emeral, was effin disgusting as a card, I think my friend at one point when I was playing against him, summoned Emeral 5 times on his first turn... and I mean, I too had degenerate BS in my deck, but when you go through 20 cards on your turn 1, with 40 cards in your deck...

Thanks to the ""soft once per turn"" mechanic Emeral can loop and draw basically your entire deck by shuffling back itself, remaking it, getting rid of the old one, shuffle it back again, repeat

You should probably prepare a short video demonstration on how the summoning mechanic works for them so they don’t get so hung up on the potential difficulty of getting these cards out. Just explaining it with word salad makes it a little hard to grasp for people with little yugioh experience.

@mjdragonmaster6559 not hard once per turn though. Wind-up was more than capable of making 2. Yeah bro please play the game where I call monster+spell on turn 1 so you literally can't do anything and then on turn 3 I call monster+trap so I can just push for game. Very fun and interactive card.
When it was first released, it didn't see much play, because A) 3 materials meant you went at least -1 to play it, sometimes -2 B) It doesn't get you card advantage, it stops your opponent from playing cards but it doesn't destroy/negate their cards or remove them from their hand, so it doesn't help make back the cards you lost to summon it, and C) the game was slow enough that you could survive a turn or two with being locked out by Shock Master most of the time, plus most decks ran removal in the form of Monsters, Spells, and Traps, so you could deal with Shock Master most of the time as well.
All in all, it was "too fast" of a card to be viable in slower Yugioh. The meta sped up really quickly shortly after it was released though, and in about a year it was starting to see some niche play, and shortly after that became the best thing in the game and got banned.

The visualization will help Ranran, and other guests, conceptualize things that might not be apparent right away, like how they exist in the Extra Deck and arent played immediately from hand (Ranran says he forgot about this in this same video) and how they can easily be made by having matching Levels just by going through your combo and doing an Xyz Monster as a “bonus” / something you dont always have to do.
He did a good job in a previous video, showcasing how to conduct a Synchro 8 with Cyber Dragon and Dark Resonator. Would love to see him do things like “Here is Goblindbergh and Coach Soldier Wolfbark (*explains effects*). As you can see, these cards can put you in situations where you can easily find yourself with 2 Level 4 monsters on the field (*explains Xyz Mechanic*). You can also find yourself in these situations by playing cards like Monster Reborn” etc
Like, I feel like one thing that outsiders miss when it comes to these mechanics is the natural flow of how Yugioh cards often work towards creating these monsters. Between that, and expressing how there are many options in the Extra Deck one can go into, I think it would better inform or illustrate why people use the mechanic in the first place.

Emeral drawing a card was a bonus effect. It was the fact it enabled so many degenerate loops that got it shot. There is a reason the card sees LITERALLY ZERO play at 1 copy and why it is going to stay there.

Misunderstanding Emeral is so wild to me. Like, shuffling three back isn't hurting the consistency of your deck. You already saw those cards, used them, and were happy to see them, and now you can search or draw them again your next turn to do it all over again. You're not shuffling back trash, you're shuffling back important resources you need in your deck.
Having resources in your deck is almost always worse than having them in your graveyard. There’s a reason why nobody plays avarice anymore. It’s only good because of the loops

@@MegaMetal96 Decks that can appreciate Avarice are decks that like to really grind. No one plays Avarice because a lot of those types of decks already have this kind of recycling built in and/or have enough of a punch to kill the opponent before you need to utilize a card like it.
@MegaMetal96 So many modern combos rely on having search targets in deck, and if your lines allow you to play less copies of those targets by recycling them, it's a giant upside. Shuffling them back is in no way a downside if you build smart.
Emeral is a card that hasn't aged as well as many others. Part of what made Emeral so nuts was how efficiently some decks could loop itself, and when you would face grindier matchups you had an option to just extend the game out and win that way. That playstyle doesn't hold up as well as it does, and 2 monsters for an 1800 draw a card is nothing special these days. It also hurts that it's partner in crime Lavalval Chain is still axed, and the two could easily pivot between each other in the same engine quite well.
Avarice can't be recycled, but Emeral is a monster, and that matters a LOT. It's even an extra deck to grab it on command, but it's not perfect.

Also in the unlikely case Rarran may read this. The "Number" in the name of some monsters is for anime reasons. In the Yu-Gi-Oh show that introduced XYZ monsters there's this dude from another dimension who's memories were shattered once he came to earth, those memories took physical form as 100 "Number" Cards. The very first one Cimooo showed you, Number 39, is actually the Ace monster of the protag.
The irl reason is very likely that they just wanted an additional reason for people to go buy these cards, collecting all of those special Number Monsters.

I'm like 99.9% positive that Rarran would have seen a Zeus... if not multiple Zeus' in master duel if he made it to diamond on sword soul. I mean, even decks that don't commonly make xyz monster will still run an xyz monster of some kind just because Zeus exists. Sure, maybe he never read the card entirely, but to not recognize it? I am shocked. He's an exceptionally recognizable card just as much as Baron or Appo/Access.

As a non-player, it took me far to long to realize that Rank is left-justified and Level is right-justified.

I realized that when I came back to the game last year. I tried to summon a rank 4 monster using a lvl 4 and a tank 4 monster and was told I couldn't because rank and level are not the same.

Stuff like that was a plot point in the anime. A monster affected attacks of lower leveled monsters, the protagonist had to explain ranks were not levels and the effect didn’t work.
apparently lorewise xyz monsters were originally conceived as beings from another dimension materialized with bodies of anti-matter and they basically traverse through dimension to the field from the other side of a black hole which is why the stars representing their ranks is on the left instead of the right representing how they're very much an inverse abnormality they are and even their summoning animation in all media involves a black hole or more specifically the materials turning into streams of energy being sucked into a black hole colliding within and then an xyz monster emerging from the resulting explosion like some particle collider experiment gone wrong
they have moved away from this idea pretty quickly so it doesnt pertain to all xyz monster but its still interesting to see how this influenced the card template design for xyz monster
@@YukiFubuki. It's also very smart from a design decision. It gets around a lot of the issues with Synchros and balancing they ran into. Stops you from chaining them into themselves, except in very specific lines they wanted.
I think the best way to look at card draw in YGO is to see drawing a card outside of the normal draw phase as having the additional text of "Draw 1 card. Refresh half your mana crystals". By that I mean, it's not just drawing a card, it's also giving you "mana" because like Cimo keeps saying, "The cards ARE the resource."
I was kind of Happy to see Zeus at the end. Loved that card, especially since it looks like something out of Gundam. And it was fun to have in the Zoodiac deck that I played (I Think it was Something + Zoodiac at the time.)

Crew in MTG: Artifacts with the subtype Vehicle that become powerful over statted creatures until end of turn by tapping a creature with power greater or equal to the Crew cost.
I.E. Smuggler's Copter: 2 Mana Artifact - Vehicle, Crew 1, becomes a flying 3/3 with the effect of whenever it attacks or blocks you may draw a card, but you then have to discard a card if you did.

Rarran explained crew in a bit of a misleading way. You do not attach crewed creatures to the vehicle. You tap the creatures required, and the vehicle becomes a creature. The creatures that crewed can be untapped, and if the vehicle is destroyed, the creatures that crewed are not effected. What rarran is describing is closer to a card like mimeoplasm, or modular cards
Just wanted to say something. First of all, I'm glad these whole cross TCG universe exist. Secondly, I'm glad Cimo*8 does this series in a somewhat progressive manner. I have a limited understanding in TCG apart from MTG. I knew very little about yugioh and never played it for real, similar to pokemon. My understanding comes from the chaos destiny game series which I love i.e. early days of ygo similar to pokemon tcg for gb (which I prefer to the actual pokemon game itself). Suffice to say ygo has evolved quite a lot from the early days. I wasnt particularly interested to go back playing ygo and all the different special summon mechanics was a huge headache to me. I could at any time go browse and learn them one by one but tbh I'm too lazy and cant be bothered to do that. So this series and Cimo*8's in particular is perfect for me. Syntax is still a huge issues when it comes to ygo wording but thats just a _me_ problem. Thanks Cimo*8!!

One of my favorite things about yugioh is that for a game with no resource system, so much of it is based on the resource economy

I know not enough about YuGiOh - but from what I've learnt in these videos is that the game is over on turn 1-2. Either someone won or locked their opponent in almost every single game. More like a game of solitaire honestly, who had the best draw with exact number of answers and threats to win instantly :D

With CGB or LSV, you gotta show them Azothot and see their reaction to the wonderful world of "Activated Non-Activated effects", effects that have essentially activated effects, but dont activate, so your opponent simply cannot respond or do anything since they "Just Happen" lol

One of the other less talked about things for daigusto emeral is that, lets say shockmaster for example is put to 1 or trishula or some insanely powerful extra deck card is limited to reduce how much you can loop it since looping it is broken. Daigusto effectively just acts as another copy of that card letting you go into more of them. Essentially the more consistent and spammy your deck is, the less the limited/semi limited list matters to you with daigusto emeral. With multiple copies of the Emeral you also go infinite and with prio existing you couldnt really respond easily to its effect.
As I grew up with Zexal I mainly thought about "Who played this number card"

For the purpose of the video it might been best to say they just easy to summon. Cimo said high level cards might not be so easy, but there several 8-10 level monsters that special summons themselves with the only downsides that their stats are super low and the effects might say they can more or less only be used to XYZ summon... many many just take one card, they tend to go like this "If you have no monster, special summon this and add another monster card to your hand" -> The monster you added:"If you have a monster on the board with the same level as this one, special summon this one"... In short you can pretty much one-card combo to any XYZ monster that only need two monsters.

Idk why people thought Beatrice should be allowed to stay. If anything Beatrice being legal for so long would rather indicate Chain could come back since it is objectively a worse card since Beatrice is "basically" guaranteed to bin 2 (which is necessary to do a lot of the rollback shenanigans).
I think Beatrice was supposed to be harder to summon than lavalval, and it was for a time. But then it stopped being the case and the situation got silly

There was a card called Card Car D that really exemplifies how good drawing cards was in Yugioh. It basically read "If you normal summoned this card you can tribute it and skip your turn to draw 2 cards and skip your turn." Getting +1 card advantage was so strong that skipping your entire turn (with the exception of maybe clearing some opponent cards with spells, or setting some traps) was worth it. That card fell out of meta eventually as the game became faster, but drawing even 1 extra card used to be good enough that skipping your whole turn was worth it.
Iirc cardcar D was actually a little disappointing and wasn't played all that much competitively
@theghostcreator776 It definitely was, it just fell off over time. It got 1st place in 2 separate YCSs shortly after it was released, and saw play in hundreds of top YCS decks from 2012 to 2015, even winning 1st in a handful of Nationals in decks like Chain Burn and Traptrix.

XYZ are reverse pokemon cards, and materials are energies. Pokemon come into play without energies and get stronger as you attach more. XYZs come into the field with "energies", and they run out of juice as you detach those "energies."" I think that's a good way to explain them.

There is a loophole against the XYZ Number monster 86 Heroic champion, even though its effect says your opponent cannot normal summon or special summon, the card never said you can set summon or flip summon against number 86.

The best deck which could use emeral was zoo. Like drawing a card is nice, but when you have a deck like zoo the recycle eff becomes VERY important. Putting back 2 zoo XYZ's like a used Drident + Emeral or 2 Ratpiers + Emeral was INSANE.

It's funny, because originally, Shock Master was considered really bad, and Daigusto Emeral was in fact better than Lavalval Chain. Shock Master was bad because it was a -2 (You have to use 3 level 4 monsters to get 1 card, and even though it prevents your opponent from playing things, it doesn't actually remove those cards from your opponent's hand, so the effect didn't net card advantage). The game was slow enough that going -2 (-1 if you had more efficient ways to summon it) to lock your opponent out of a third of their cards wasn't good enough. Daigusto Emeral was also better than Lavalval Chain in a lot of decks because the game was slow enough that having more cards in deck were relevant for some decks, and drawing a card was better than tutoring for a card to put it on top of your deck and not drawing it. The self-mill effect of Lavalval chain was strong, but not egregious enough yet for it to be better than drawing a card.
EDIT: With similar logic, in old school yugioh, Felgrand would've been better than Shock Master because it would've gotten rid of your opponent's threat instead of just delaying it for a turn. Luckily, Felgrand didn't exist in 2011-2012.
