She was only trying to stand up for her friend. I think everybody misses that fact that some people are passionate about defending the ones they care about. But now we know Zanab was in the wrong and I wonder how the girls feel.
When Bartise said he and Raven shared so many connections and she corrected him with “SIMILARITIES” and then he starts agreeing but still didn’t quite get it. That was absolute gold
I personally think Bartise was intentionally trying to cause conflict between his family and Nancy to be honest. When he did it I thought "Wow. He is going to use his family not liking her as a reason to break up". He knew how his family felt about the topic. He knew how Nancy stood. There was nothing to discuss.
Exactly! It's funny because his sister actually encouraged him to stay with Nancy, so he couldn't use the family as a proper excuse to break up. Anyone who has been through a relationship with a manipulator could spot Bartise's tricks a mile away
Totally! He also brought some involvement of ex into investments, but it looked like an excuse and not like it bothered him truly.

I'm so glad you mentioned the weird "money all over the pod floors, nightlife worker shaming" mess that Bartiste did to Raven! It felt so childish and cruel and I found it surprising that no one thought it was worth bringing up! His behavior was strange but so discreet, he got away with alot of rude crap! Saved Nancy a bigger heartbreak for sure!
THIS! Everyone got on Cole who's just a little dense and immature, but I feel like Bartise was a lot more calculating: that money on the floor thing because he wanted to get back at Raven for exercising while he was talking; bringing up abortion to his family knowing they would ambush Nancy; giving Nancy the silent treatment because he was upset with her; telling Nancy that Raven is hotter than her straight to her face...the list goes on smh
OK, I haven't watched the show, only this video, but when the money thing came up I was actually super super shocked. This to me is a gross joke. I've never worked at a club or anything but a "joke" like that when you're breaking off a connection with someone is a hard fail. Was insensitive. Maybe even maliciously so. Especially given that others warned him of the other men. I hope he has learned that that joke was in bad taste and made him look bad more than anything and made me feel relieved that raven was getting rid of him even tho she had to experience his poor sense of humor to get there. The bigness of it only amplifies how bad it was. If he truly believes that it was a funny thing and would endear him to her for taking her thing that others have condemned her for lightly, he really needs to learn a thing or two about hoomanz.

I don't regret saying this; Nancy was too good for him. After making such shallow comments and how he talked up Raven looks it was a no.

I also think it's interesting that you can say Nancy is "too good" for him. Bartise had his issues but Nancy isn't a blameless victim. Explain how she's "too good" for him to me.

What do you think the intent of Bartise's expression of the truth to Nancy was? Do you think he was trying to hurt her?
Tbh I thought him bringing up the abortion thing with his family was him trying to sabotage the relationship & to give him a more "valid" reason to say no in the end
Completely agree. It was almost like he needed her to be the villain in this one aspect because he had nothing else to justify how horribly he was treating her.

After seeing Raven, Bartiste starting looking for a way out. He relied on the abortion conversation to find fault in Nancy but as you said he doesn't have a mind of his own because to me he is ok with abortion. If he's ok to have at least one he is not against it. He just has double standards when it comes to the topic.
In the wedding scene I was confused when she was telling her family to leave. I thought she was going to continue the relationship after all of that because she definitely fell in love and kept on ignoring his faults. The fact that she was even going to say yes is concerning because he showed her serious red flags. However, I am so happy with how she dealt with him. My favourite part was her taking off that bracelet. He's simply just an immature and vein little boy who has a lot to learn. They need new hosts for the reunion because he definitely got off the hook with almost everything he did.
She wanted to talk to him alone as two adults I think. If my family acted like that o would be embarrassed because I’d be like “I’m not a charity case. I don’t need y’all to beg him to be w me I can handle this myself”. They didn’t even stop to think if SHE had things she wanted to say for HER closure. That’s how I took it at least..

He was definitely nitpicking because that abortion conversation was not as serious as the show overall made it out to be. Those are conversations that have to be had and it is what it is.
Nancy was asked what she would hope for Bartis going forward & she said self-love. She has so much compassion for HIM but he had none for her
You know, he did mention his love would fizzle out in his previous relationships. That stuck with me and it definitely foreshadowed the ending of their relationship.

Same when SK told raven "at 3am the streets were callin" when she complained about hik getting late night calls from "nigeria" along with her dead fish metaphor. Both Nancy and Raven ignored MAJOR foreshadowing beforehand that I swore they would have taken seriously.
Exactly! Hearing him say that early on after the proposals immediately gave me doubts and that he might back out pretty quickly once things started feeling more real.
Also when he talked to Nancy's brothers and he slipped out "I'm an emotionally unavailable guy" I was like did I hear that right ??.. Just gave me the vibe over and over that he was not ready for marriage and that Nancy wasn't the one for him.
Yeah it really did. Also he said something about if you bought a house w an ex, he'd have an issue. So that was Nancy's actual situation w her ex.

I feel like Bartise placing the fake money in Raven’s pod was meant to insult her after his ego was hurt from her exercising while he was sharing that “touching” story in the pod; another way of him trying to preserve his fragile ego. Thanks so much for sharing, love your breakdowns 💕💕💕

I liked Nancy until she started seriously ignoring the red flags. It just reminded me of myself when I was in an abusive relationship, and it really frustrated me. I still like her, her behavior just hit too close to home for me.

She is such an interesting character. I too thought she was vain at first and even was pretty annoyed with her, but like you said, she just saw through people’s BS and knew what she wanted.

He needed Raven to compliment him & how she did not even give him an opening
The part that really got me was when Bartise threw a major possessive tantrum over Nancy just chatting with Andrew while he was in his passive aggressive rejection stage with her. Where did that come from? There were red flags leading up to that, but it was when I decided she should walk away.
I actually didn’t buy the whole possessive tantrum it seemed fake and like he actually wanted Nancy to say she had second thoughts and liked Andrew more so that he could be off the hook and have even more excuses as to why it wasn’t “working out”.
5:04 They were always saying, “It’s the ____ for me,” this whole season!
5:54 Yes that! I felt like Brennan was the only guy who was genuinely loving his fiancée because when they asked what he loved about Alexa he listed things about her. But the rest of the guys (this season and past too, honestly) the answers are like, “Because she chose me. Because she makes me feel better. Because I feel good about myself when she praises me.” Very self focused answers, looking for their ego boost more than seeing their fiancées for who they are.
I know right they were all saying that phrase like why is everyone talking like that 🤣
The same in season 4 except for Brett
The way he immediately cut Nancy off after his family asked her about what she wanted in life (her time to shine mentioning her accomplishments) just to bring up the abortion subject was wild.
Also, while the couples were at the bar when Nancy was confiding in Andrew, you could See the insecurities coming out of Bartise. How he approached them, and the energy in which he chose to say things was a Lot! Meanwhile he spent a Lot of time chatting up Raven at the pool. And tracing her figure every time she was in his vicinity smh. The projection from him was too much for me, and I was shocked that he got away with soo much. I was hoping to see more people pointing this out. Especially at the reunion.
I actually thought it was weird when Bartiste was talking about them sleeping together on the honeymoon, and he just kept bragging about it like a high school kid. Its one thing admitting they had sex, but the way he just kept going on and on, and bragging like a kid, like he was seeking some level of validation like me and others guys did in our teenage/young adult years. It really showed me how immature he was to talk about your fiancé in that manner, as if sleeping with someone is still some type of accomplishment.
Thats how all those scenes are at all the first "group dates" its for the men and women to brag about their sex and potentially isolate those who haven't jumped into it
And then in the reunion he was like “I don’t talk about my sex life” hahaha

Bartise really got off easy in the reunion! Also, (to answer your question from the beginning) Jarrette sort of half-proposed to Mallory, which she turned down. But besides that, I don't think there was a full proposal that had been turned down yet.
His apology and accountability like Cole should've been responded to the same. Weird. And they both deserved a break.

My son walked in during the scene with Bartise’s weird dollar bill move, and he was like, “What a douche move. I don’t like that, guy Mom.” And at that time, I was like, “Up until this moment, I have totally been on this guy’s side and I have been shipping him and this other girl, Nancy, hardcore. But, I agree, I think he really missed the mark with this dollar bill thing. I think he’s being petty, and I think it’s mean, and he’s trying to play it off as a joke.” And I stand by that. Especially after watching the rest of the season.
She likely would've shut him down in the pool scene anyway. She wanted to be paired up wanted to make family or was wanting to get as much airtime as possible. Either way when she was exercising etc while he was talking no interest in him LOL

I am surprised that Stephanie did not talk about the scene where Nancy is talking about her real estate investments. That scene was so weird to me because it felt like Nancy trying to convince Bartise with money. She was like everything I have would be half yours. I thought she was very much pleading with him a lot throughout the show to stay with her.
This is an interesting take. My first impression of it was that Nancy was trying to show him her financial plan and wanted him to be a part of it and not feel intimidated. Especially because he knew that her ex was already a part of it and was concerned about that.
I don't think so she was just letting him know that this is what I get my money from and yes her ex partner help me alone the way....what I don't get is when Bartise acts as if there wasn't anyone in her life before him come along that's what his big issue was that her ex own apart of her business....

I think it was a little of both, maybe? It’s so obvious he was making this beautiful, capable woman feel so insecure in their relationship. So she probably was trying to demonstrate what she financially brings to the table and help him to see she’s serious about their relationship. I think his blatant and repeated rejections probably made her constantly feel like she was grasping at straws, doing anything she could to try to get back what they had in the pods. I feel for her:(

Which makes me wonder if that held any weight to her dealing with his crap lol. It seems like he has a lot of self development left to do and maybe she has some variation of avoidant attachment wounding?
i’m surprised not too many people have been discussing the way that bartise gaslit nancy when he wasn’t feeling physically attracted to her. he was not showing affection because he was having doubts about the physical connection and when she brought this up to him he told her that she was needy when in reality it was just his own doubts about the physical connection. i also feel that he took it to such great lengths by telling her that her values on topics like abortion was why he wasn’t physically attracted to her when this physical attraction issue started much earlier on (when he showed his friends nancy and saw raven for the first time.
the relationship was looking like the groundwork for covert narcissistic abuse.

I was hoping you would mention that he purposely blindsided her with the shot that said “let’s do the damn thing” like 20 minutes before the ceremony. He really gave her hope to tear it down
Nancy stated in a TikTok live that she did confront Bartise at the reunion but it was cut from the final edit unfortunately.
The editors/production protected Bartise WAY too much.

I find that really hard to believe. The reunion had SO much filler like Bartise congratulating himself and Nancy for discussing abortion on tv, I can’t imagine that a confrontation was left out. It would have been a lot more interesting. Zanab also accused the show of bad editing and that didn’t really pan out…
I'm also really happy that you addressed the money on the floor thing because no one else ever does. I definitely did not think that it was an acceptable joke. The thing that I wonder about with that situation was if he was trying to anger Raven enough to make her upset with him and initiate the breakup herself. I say that because I think that Bartise seemed to have the tendency to avoid the confrontations ways that would make himself look less bad. For example, I think that bringing up the abortion conversation in front of his family was a way to sabotage the relationship with Nancy because he already knew that it would make his family not accept her. So later, when he did break up with her, his family would say "well she wasn't right for you" rather than "why did you leave her? She was amazing". I think that with the Raven thing, since she made it clear that this was a very vulnerable thing for her, if she did get upset, he could say "well she broke up with me" or "well, she couldn't take a joke" rather than be like "I broke up with her". I think he's trying to avoid real accountability.
Honestly I think he was just trying to hurt her for essentially rejecting him first (exercising while he was talking). She clocked what he was and basically dismissed him indirectly. Even when he pointed out the exercise, she barely apologized. To save face he wanted to "break up with her and choose nancy" but literally 2 mins before she started exercising he was saying that he chose her above Nancy.
Raven knew what he was trying to do with the dollar bills and just barely reacted.

100%, it’s such an intimate conversation, I would never brought up something like this in front of my family if I really wanted to be with this person. I mean, come on.
Great analysis 👏 I think Nancy was was willing to do and accept everything just to prove to herself that she could be with a man as handsome (not that I find him that way) as Bartise.
It was very disappointing to see her position towards him at the reunion.
I loved this breakdown! It really helped solidify some thoughts that I had while watching the season, but didn't have the right words to describe. I agree that Nancy seemed to be super self-aware and was able to pick up on subtleties, but had a huge blind spot when it came to Bartise... I'm glad that they didn't go through with getting married.
I would love to hear your thoughts on SK and Raven! Their relationship was quite a bit different from the others and I love that they got back together again after the show ended!

Great breakdown, doc! Loved hearing your insights. As a viewer of the show, the sole difference I saw between Bartise, Shake, and Andrew is that Bartise knew how to hide his con. He manipulated Nancy into thinking he was a sure thing so that HE could’ve been the one to tell her no. That was what that the whole “we’ve got this” text nonsense the morning of their wedding was all about. And sadly, Nancy said yes to him when she was asked first. And the more she talks about how much she still loves/ wants/ misses him, the more inflated his fragile ego becomes. That man isn’t a fraction of Nancy’s worth. I hope she finds a great man worthy of her awesomeness someday
When Bartise got Nancy a permanent bracelet and then said no, I was like: waaaat? Now, I understand, why Nancy said that he was giving her mixed signals and said that they will end up together.
Something that I found really interesting with Bartise and Raven in the pods is that Bartise started the conversation about breaking things off, but Raven finished it by being like "yep totally agree, we are not a good fit." and it seemed like once she did that, Bartise spent a good portion of the show outside of the pods trying to change her mind? Idk if other people felt that way, but he seemed like he wanted to get her to go back on her saying she wasn't feeling it with him and it was SO weird

I wish you had talked about the fact that almost constantly Bartise was speaking negatively about Nancy to others and TO Nancy. It was reminiscent of Shake- but Bartise had the audacity to say these disparaging things TO Nancy.
When Matt was complaining about Colleen going out, Bartise tells him that he WISHES he was attracted to his fiancé the way Matt was attracted to Colleen. I wish the reunion had asked her about it because that stood out to me as particularly cruel given how close to the end of the experiment they were.
I was also gobsmacked to witness the conversation where he fawns over Raven and calls her a smoke show. Nancy’s reaction to that conversation- deer in headlights, nodding stiffly was mind-boggling. It’s bizarre that she continued to pursue him when he very clearly did not like her and want to be with her. He also began to withhold physical affection and be distant with her- all while she chased after him eagerly. It was an incredibly odd dynamic to witness because it truly felt like Nancy didn’t have the self-esteem to stand up for herself.
The self esteem of women is so vitally important.
I would love to see a Love is Blind US vs Love is Blind Japan video. I felt like LIBJapan participants approached the experiment in a much more thoughtful, honest, vulnerable, mature way as opposed to the US participants. And any insight you could provide into how the participants in the pods could approach their "dating" so that they're more successful outside of the pods.
The LIB Japanese participants were much better.

Bartise put Nancy on the spot with his family in order to have an excuse to screen her out. After he saw Raven, even though Nancy is gorgeous and Raven was NOT interested, he really didn't want Nancy anymore. Nancy was too much of a woman for him and I hope she finds a strong, intelligent, emotionally mature man that is worthy of what she has to offer.
Tbh I found it so funny when bartise and Nancy first met Bartise said “you better run” meanwhile he was still walking. He thought he was too hot for her from the beginning
The way Bartise when on and on and on about Raven to Nancy was horrible! And for Nancy to say that she was grateful that he was honest, I mean…..there is a very clear difference between honesty and just blank disrespect. So glad those two didn’t end up together!

I love watching these Love Is Blind breakdowns! That displacement explanation makes so much sense now, even if she allegedly confronted him on the reunion and it didn't air. The producers probably cut it because it didn't have that same heat that she served Cole. I really wish you'd watch Love Is Blind: Japan and do breakdowns. The cast is much more mature and the culture difference is honestly amazing, but it also has some poorly matched people trying to make it to the altar that cause drama.
This is a great video! I never understood what Nancy saw in Bartise...It sucks that he dragged all the way to the alter to say "no", but I'm glad he did because she deserves SO MUCH BETTER! I hope you do videos on all the couples, it so interesting to get a therapists perspective on this show.
I love your feedback! As an upcoming therapist as well in her masters program I had a lot of similarities in my observations as I watched this couple. Glad to see we had some of the same thoughts.

I enjoy your take on these couples. It doesn’t feel like you’re holding too much judgement against either one of them and you understand where they’re coming from. I also appreciated the observation on Nancy coming after Cole over all the similar things she endured with Bartise. I thought it was so weird that she had that much energy to put Cole on the spot that should have been given towards Bartise, but you made it make sense. It felt like the only good thing he did by the end was be the one to say No. thank goodness he came to his senses and saved Nancy from himself.
The reunion needs to have a live audience who can ask each contestant questions. Nick and Vanessa can remain soft and let us address the tough situations.
My 20+ year-old daughter, turned me on to the show. We binged watched season three, for about four episodes. I think most of your analysis, are spot on! I did expressed to my daughter, that I hope she doesn’t take this route, in finding her husband, but she learns to identify what she wants for her self. Ultimately, I turned her on to your TH-cam channel!

woah that was spot on (even tho it's a reality show) ! I've always found the money on the floor situation being weird in a first place, as a way of breaking up, as well as the abortion scene with his family being involved. I really enjoy your videos, because your observations are highlighting behaviors/patterns that we can notice in real life situation, and it does make us question a lot of the candidates' demeanor on the show. I just hope you would do an overall review of s1 as well! thank you for your work!

I enjoy your breakdowns instead of watching you react to it in real time. This way you give us the full perspective instead of reacting too early to a situation and coming up with stuff on the spot that could otherwise be wrong, especially since many of us (I would assume) have already watched the episodes and know what happens next. I’ve seen other reactors do this and I’m just like omg keep watching before forming an opinion/diagnosis lol. Please keep these types of long form videos coming!! ❤

Bartise seemed to be there just for the clout and influencer money. Not interested or ready to get married at all. I hated how he picked on whatever Nancy and her family said to make a case. Her family was right after all, just trying to protect her. I stan for Nancy's mom and brother; they were able to see what Nancy couldn't see. I wish I had a family who wanted to protect me like that.

Especially when he smiled after telling her no at the alter...he got off on breaking her confidence levels down..I dated one for years and got ptsd watching him 🤣 ..also Andrew was a troll but I think he liked Nancy honestly..he was trolling the whole experience and who wouldn't? I feel like the matches have been failures except for Lauren and Cameron 🤷🏾♀️.. Your perspective really resonated with me. It was obvious that Bartise was really, really trying to force himself to believe he should marry based on a blind, emotional connection. The interesting thing that no one is pointing out is that physical attraction is the common reason Nancy was saying "yes" and Bartise saying "no".
I believe him decorating the floor with money was retaliation for Raven doing jumping jacks while he was being vulnerable.

Nancy said she told bartise she was going to say NO. After all the problems they had. But BARISTA TOLD HER LIKE PLEASE NO, let me fix it!!!! And he did a lot of things to change her opinion that weren’t in the show. That’s why she said yes! Because she saw a change. But this guy… oh my god, such a clown.

I realllllly appreciate these videos! I love seeing a therapists point of view for shows like these! When it comes to dating/"reality" shows, it seems to be a common trend to react from either common or shared traumas (trauma bond) or someone's conditioning. Regardless, it's also nice to be able to give a name to a pattern of behavior (i.e. Fragile Ego, Enmeshed families, etc). All in all, I love these and can't wait to watch the remaining LiB videos!
So glad you talked about how she was calling out Cole for a lot of the things that Bartise was doing too that she seemed to be blind to. Helped me understand a little why that was the case.
Also, there has been another on-camera proposal rejection on the show. Season 2, Jarrette proposed Mallory and was rejected before he decided to propose to Iyanna.

I appreciate your analysis and speaking up. I felt frustrated with Bartise’s passive-aggressive silent treatments of Nancy when he “lost” his attraction for her while he was dishonest with himself from the very beginning.
Great video. I thought Nancy’s family was sooo wildly inappropriate at the wedding. I was hoping you’d touch on that a bit more and was surprised no one is talking about it in the comments! They had no boundaries and weren’t letting her handle her own life. She didn’t need them to come attack him. The mom was egging on her son to go at Bartise. Was I the only one who found that shocking?

Just want to say, I really appreciate your videos because you often have insights I did not think of! It's good to think of these shows from different povs and these videos really help me with that. I also think the people saying that you are being one sided don't really understand where you are coming from. In my eyes, you have been more than fair to everyone in this show, often trying to find explanations and reasons for why a person would act a certain way. If your reviews seem one sided, it is simply because one person in a relationship acted much more questionable than the other and there are obviously more things to say about that.

I thought Raven was very vain and superficial at 1st too, but after the pool thing when she spoke to the camera I was like OK this girl isn’t who I thought she was, a lot more mature and not stupid at all. I began to like her after that moment. I like the way she shut it down and stayed loyal throughout too.
