    I agree - the Glideride Max is totally underrated! I bought it on a whim and it has quickly become one of my top favorites. Super comfortable and lightweight feeling.

    I’m with you my man. I’ve moved away from soft and squishy shoes that I’ve run in for years. As you I became tired of fighting the foam. My go to shoes now are Speed 3 and Mach 6. Both offer some cushion, but they don’t have that fighting the foam feel at any pace. Oh I also have the Cielo X1 in my rotation but that’s a Max unicorn 🦄.

    Having loved the Glideride 3 i found the max a bit too soft until i swapped out the insole for the magic speed insole. I love it now , perfect balance of resiliance and comliance for easy non stop running but at a steady pace. Feels quite similar to the magmax as well so i might use that as a backup if stock gets low.

    That's also where I'm at with softer shoes: I recently got the 1080 v13s but would have enjoyed them more last autumn, when I felt my Triumph 20s were a tad too firm. Now I'm more looking forward to running in Triumphs (updated to the 21s although the Tank 20s still aren't fully retired at 1100km...)

    Does the Glideride Max feel that different than the Nimbus 25/26? Can anyone that's tried them all comment?

    • @paulmulks
      @paulmulks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd be interested to know too. I had the Nimbus 25 but had to sell them on as they caused my left knee to randomly start feeling like it had been hit with a bat every time I ran in them 😂

    • @QuasiAmerican
      @QuasiAmerican 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kevinh1976 I tried all 3 of those. To me as someone who is quite lightweight (128lbs) I find the nimbus 25/26 felt softer. I think the plastic plate in the glideride max makes it feel less soft to me. You definitely get more squish in softness in the nimbus too due to the lack of plate.

    • @Fozzee.1970
      @Fozzee.1970 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The Nimbus was too soft and unstable for me got rid of them. GRM has a mix of soft and firmer layers which work much better for me.

    • @QuasiAmerican
      @QuasiAmerican 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Fozzee.1970 I definitely agree. The Nimbus was also too soft for me and I get the same feeling you mentioned from the Glideride Max although I prefer the 1080v14 due to it feeling bouncier (in my opinion).

    • @Fozzee.1970
      @Fozzee.1970 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@QuasiAmericannot tried the NB but for what I use the GRM for I don't want it too bouncy. Been struggling for a while to find a softer shoe for my easy miles that still has some responsiveness. The GRM has filled that gap for me and stops me going too fast. Also too many "Super" shoes will make your feet weaker it's good to rotate.

  • @kuriosites
    @kuriosites 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I agree about the Glideride Max being in a kind of no man's land because it's only $10 less than something like the MagMax. Of course, it may not feel as soft to someone who is not as fast or doesn't hit the ground as hard as you do. It would be nice if some brand would just put out a shoe with legit race foam and price it at about $150 but who would do that? :)
    I think the growth hormone thing is sort of a generalization depending on various aspects of your life: sleep, stress, etc. If I am having a rough day at work, I'm sure my body is swimming in cortisol, which would be more catabolic.

    By the way, earlier versions of both of these were made in wide widths. I'd be surprised if they both won't also be in these editions too. Seems like that would have been useful today. (I actually have wide pairs of GR 2 and 1080-13.)

    I like the comparison of glideride max to endorphin speed 3. I only used that as a long run easy pace cruiser as was soft and nice rocker. If glideride max is similar feel could be shoe for me. Also want the 1080 V14 almost have 300 miles in my 13's.

      Can I ask what it was about the Glideride that you didn't like?

    • @QuasiAmerican
      @QuasiAmerican 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@paulmulks sure! It was a few things - I have a narrow foot and the fit of the 1080v14 was better for me particularly with getting a heel lock. The rocker on the glideride made the shoe feel "slappy" to me with my gait whereas I feel the more flexible nature of the 1080 worked better for me. The 1080v14 felt bouncier to me so made that shoe feel more lively rather than the sink in softness of the glideride max. I also felt the glideride max was not that soft though too I felt the nimbus 25 was softer.

    • @paulmulks
      @paulmulks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @QuasiAmerican Blimey, that's interesting. I had the Nimbus 25 myself but had to sell them on as they caused my left knee to really play up which not other shoe has ever done 😕 I also thought it was a firm shoe which I also didn't like. I'm massively on the fence with that Glideride Max, I'm looking for something I can use for a 100 mile trail marathon next year, so want something that's super comfortable but that will also give me a little bit of aid once I start to hit the back end of the race. Ideally, I dont want something with a full-on carbon plate either, and due to the nature of the trail (hard packed), I won't require trail specific shoes. It's difficult because I'm in the UK, and none of my local running shops are stocking that Glideride, so I can't even go somewhere to try them on and compare them to other brands, etc... Thanks for your feedback, though I really appreciate it 👍🏻

    • @QuasiAmerican
      @QuasiAmerican 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@paulmulks I'm also in the UK and got the glideride max directly from Asics UK. You can try them for 90 days if you buy directly from Asics so I did that. I tried them for one run after trying the 1080v14 and didn't like them as much so I sent them back. Perhaps you could try that. Alternatively Hoka also has a 30 day try on policy if you are interested in giving any of their shoes a go. I have really liked the ON cloudmonster hyper for my long runs at easy/steady pace but I feel I am in the minority given other people's reviews but I think it's more the price that puts people off. I think one of the Run Testers ran an ultra in them and like them a lot. I feel like the peba foam plus the cloud pods would bottom out less over such a long run. They are also wide in the forefoot and midfoot. Only negative for me is that the left shoe developed a squeak 🤣. Its not a particularly soft shoe though and I know you said you wanted that. I will keep thinking!

    Question about softness.
    I thought I remembered you saying the 1080-14 is not as soft as the 13. Or is it similar?
    1080-13 is very soft in my experience. What else is? Is this Glideride in that category? (Just asking about pure softness here.)
    I was thinking Skyflow may have been close, but you mention that it is not. I guess it must be more like a Clifton. Nice and well-cushioned, but not mega-soft.

    Any idea what sizes sell the most on supwell? I have a pair of size 8M 1080v14s that I bought from new balance straight instead of runningwarehouse so I can't return it. Mistakenly, I went on a run for them when I knew they were a bit narrow but they turned out to be TOO narrow. I'm afraid if I sign up for supwell it wouldn't sell. I do have a pair of 1080v14s in the wider size now, which I find to fit much more comfortably. Thanks.

      I'm on it and I see the most listings/sold listings for sizes 10 and up. I'm a 9 and rarely see my size which is a bit of a surprise as usually 9-10s seem to be the most common shoe sizes in most stores.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There's a mix of sizes - lots of listings in the bigger sizes so ironically the smaller ones usually go quick when listed. It's $1 a month and you can cancel anytime so little to lose if you do sign up (also we don't take a transaction fee like most other resale marketplaces)

    • @supwell
      @supwell  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question - the Kinvara pro is a lot firmer than the glideride max. If you like soft shoes you'll like the glideride max but if you're looking for something similar to the Kinvara pro you'll prob find the Asics too soft

    • @mmkal9632

    a non scientific anecdotal information from the last century, no matter how you feel, to fully recover from a hard marathon race, it takes 26 days ( a day per mile).
    I guess, to run well in a soft shoe, you need more muscle strength than in a firm shoe, and in this aspect you still might be in the middle of your recovery
    fun fact: the recovery after a 100 miler is much faster mainly because of the slower racing pac, it only takes 100 hours ( one hour per mile).... also anecdotally tested
    Timed race formats are similar with a 6 hour race needing much longer time to recover than a 24 hour race
