    Are you interested in a comparison of this lens against the SLR Magic 8mm and 7artisans 7.5mm?

    Thanks for this great review, I've been looking for a decent priced super wide lens for a while for my BMPCC, as I find myself so drawn to wide shots but really dislike the look of fish eye unless for super specific purposes. I was contemplating ordering a Rokinon but wasn't thrilled with those reviews, but this totally sold me. And I appreciate your great shots! I especially love that low-light under the bridge one at 1:31.

    they have literally nailed it with this lens for MFT! I'd buy it just for the peli case and the bag!

    Wow, cool! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I just sold the f/2.0 version because of the slight distortion and was going to get the 9mm--but I'm really glad to learn this one exists because the extra 1.5mm and 1 Stop was something I wasn't happy about losing! Great Video!

    I bought the f2.0 version of this lens in the Spring and the first thing I bought was a 46 to 67mm step up ring. The main reason being that this step up ring is considerably thinner than a 46mm ND filer or a 46mm Polariser (the edges of which could potentially be visible). So the step up ring avoids any possibility of vignetting as the offending (thick) rim of the 67mm filter is completely outside of the lens’ field of view!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Colin - the camera guy - Ludlow I also have it step up to 67! But like a dummy I had a matte box on it too and realized that I need to shed some layers in front of the lens and so that is a lesson learned lol

  • @pvillez

    Thanks for the review. A technical question that is on my mind and I don't seem to find an answer anywhere is whether the aperture ring is stepped or continuous on this version?

  • @AlexPriceMusician

    Hey man - what would be your suggestion in my situation? I had been looking into the Laowa 7.5mm even before they came out with the cine version. It was pretty hard to find a used copy back then and I'm trying to keep budget in mind but luckily since the cine ones came out, the original is popping up used pretty frequently. Do you think the cost of a new cine version is worth it over a used original?
    I'm filming recording sessions and guitar product reviews on the GH5 and G85. Thanks!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey man! Honestly if you don’t need to adjust exposure mid shot or aren’t using a follow focus the photo version will do just fine. I picked up the cine because I use a follow focus on my rig and so it fit my needs. But the optics are going to be the same.

    Do you experience any wiggle with this lens on the BMPCC4k? I bought a P4k, and this lens specifically because of this awesome review. I love the quality of the image, but my lens has some wiggle when moving the focus ring and the aperture ring. I can hear a clicking noise when adjusting the rings back and forth. I understand from some reading that MFT mounts are designed to have a bit of wiggle room in order to accommodate for a variety of lenses and different manufactures. But is what's happening with mine normal and will it affect my footage negatively? It's kind of annoying.
    Thanks.

  • @machousemedia
    @machousemedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What ND filter do you recommend for this lens?

  • @Veptis
    @Veptis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am thinking about it for stills (and maybe some video). But paying a little extra for the Cine version is worth it to me. The Pelican case is great and why not? Tripods and lights come with carrying cases. And lenses coming with cases is better than cardboard boxes. The little case would easily fit my other tiny lenses and maybe an adapter as well.
    as it's tiny, I am not sure if it's tiny enough for me. I am not waiting for the teased 6mm lens to come onto the market. It should be a good bit wider, but I hope it doesn't have drawbacks in quality like the 10mm.

  • @lexxxus07

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would definitely work for stills. But honestly I would save some money and go with the photo version. It’s a manual lens but the photo version won’t have the gears and the aperture will he clicked. But same optics for the most part.

    • @lexxxus07
      @lexxxus07 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate your suggestion bro! That could save me a $100.. But in your opinion.. Which one of them would better in a hybrid aspect (photo&video)?
      Thanks again.. Subscribed 😄

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly possibly the photo version. I think you should really only get the cine version of you are using a rig. If not the photo version might be the better option. If you are hand focusing everything the gears may get uncomfortable over time.

    Found this from the Reddit link you posted. Great review; new subscriber here. You mentioned this was the Cine version on Reddit. As a relatively new GH5 user and new filmmaker; what determines the cine nature of a lens? I noticed you did some low-light footage. How did it perform?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man! Thanks for the sub and welcome! What makes this a cine version is primarily the fact that it has gears for a focus pulling system, the aperture ring is declicked so that you can exchange exposure in the middle of a shot. And often times the focus throw on the focus ring is longer, I don’t know if it’s actually longer than the photo version but that is sometimes what changes too. The other thing that laowa has focused on is having this lens match in size to some of their other cine lenses so that if you do have a focus system on you don’t have to adjust it when changing lenses.
      As far as low light... it handled it REALLY well. I actually had an ND filter on for MOST of the footage and it still got in enough light. Now that is partly due to my black magic, but I think if you take off the ND filter it will he just fine on the GH5 🙂
      I hope that helps! And thanks again for watching and subscribing!✌🏻

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s just a different way to measure the amount of light hitting the sensor. It is a little more accurate. But for this lens the bigger difference is the housing. You get declicked aperture and gears on the focus and aperture ring.
      Thanks man! You will definitely see more from this lens! As always thanks for watching!

    What is better? Laowa 7.5mm native mount for your wide angle shots on your Bmpcc4k? Or favorite wide angle lens 16mm & under on a Metabones MFT 0.71x ? & why?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well 16 even with a speedbooster would still be a 22mm equivalent, while the 7.5 is a 15mm... so completely different focal lengths. So if you want wide go with the 7.5

    • @ozzythemighty2767

    • @Ansonandco

      The crop factor would be on the camera and since you can only use this one on MFT it would be roughly a 2x crop factor so it is more like a 15mm field of view.
