    Question 14: It was Louisiana TERRITORY, not the state. The territory contained even part of Montana, to say nothing of Iowa, and a whole lot more.

    • @Retromolarman
      @Retromolarman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was part of a much greater addition. The Louisiana purchase.

    • @WeeWyllie
      @WeeWyllie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are certainly correct. The Louisiana Purchase involved a great swath of land, far bigger than any single state. 👍

    • @indieeasmr7101

      The area that later became the state of Louisiana was in that territory, so its technically not incorrect. Just saying.

      Yeah, Jacksonville annexed all of Duval County quite a number of years ago. It also appeared in this quiz as the answer of the largest U.S. city by area because of this.
      I’m 69, so when I was a kid, Los Angeles was the largest city by area. Later, Indianapolis annexed most of Marion County IN, and Oklahoma City annexed most of Oklahoma County OK to pass LA in area. To which Jacksonville said “hold my beer”.
      Of course, Greater Miami and Greater Tampa-St. Pete have more population than Greater Jacksonville. Jacksonville doesn’t have much suburban population now that they’ve annexed Duval County.
      BTW, I got 31 right and 9 wrong.

    Question 13: wrangle-St. Elias is in Alaska which is not considered part of the continental or lower 48 States. So a bad question even though it is on the continent. Technically the Caribbean islands are part of the NorthAmerican Continent

    • @NebraskaGonvilleJones
      @NebraskaGonvilleJones 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry but you are mistaken. The “continental” United States does indeed include Alaska but not Hawaii. I believe you are trying to say the “Contiguous” United States which only includes the “lower 48”. You also make a claim about continental boundaries, this is not totally accurate either. Many Americans claim only one continent - that of America which constitutes the entire land mass inclusive of the Caribbean islands. The UN does recognise a North and South American model however this is heavily geopolitically based and not strictly geographically determined. The island of Greenland under this model should be included in the Americas based on this interpretation something that few USA citizens would recognise as such.
      In the end the question of American subdivisions are at least murky. Small claims can be made about slightly differing European delineation, in America’s case it’s about half its population and a USA education system that has a clear agenda (as it probably should on the subject) to favour its model. Either way I think Vespucci would be proud!

The purchase included all of present day Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska; most of North and South Dakota, and parts of present day Montanna, Wyoming, Colorado and Minnesota, as well as small parts of what are now Alberta and Saskatchewan.

    How did I do? I got them all right -- but the person who wrote the questions missed at least four! 'I'm assuming he/she is not from the U.S..
    No. 14 is technically wrong since Louisiana wasn't a state when the U.S. bought the Louisiana Purchase. If you are going to count Louisiana, as a state you should count all the rest of the states carved out of the Louisiana Territory, especially Missouri.
    No. 18 Miami has millions more people than Jacksonville, although Jacksonville is the largest in Florida by area.

    • @alanmjohnson
      @alanmjohnson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wikipedia says that Miam's population is 442,241, so it doesn't have millions more people than anything. (Jacksonville has 949,611)

      Sorry, but you are wrong about Jacksonville FL population. According to my 2022 Rand McNally atlas, Jacksonville has around 870,000 people in its city limit. Miami has only 400,000. If you include all of Miami Dade county it is around 2,400,000. Much more than Duval county which Jacksonville sits inside.

    • @dandavidson424
      @dandavidson424 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Miami metro area (or combined statistical area) is larger, but that's because it includes Miami Beach, a separate city, as well as West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and several other cities. But within the city limits, Miami only has about 450,000 people while Jacksonville proper has over twice that number.
