For this quiz, I have prepared a map of the USA and on the map one state is highlighted at a time. Your challenge is to guess the US state on the map, before the timer runs out. How many can you guess correctly?

This is one of the few areas where I take things for granted. I just assume that everyone knows this stuff. Although the comments suggest that many people do.
I don't quiz or test well, but since 3rd grade, about 42 years ago, the state's location and shape as well as their capitals have come very easy to me.
I've learned and forgotten a lot of things, but this has stuck with me for some reason.

You missed the upper portion of Michigan
I am french : 50/50. The easiest are Hawaï and Alaska, the most difficult are Delaware and the middle of nowhere Kansas.
50/50! No American should get any less. A harder test would be to show just the state by itself. I been to all 50 states, and, I study the US map frequently, because I like it. Looking for new places to see. I made it a point to educate my children on the location of ea. state and it's capitol cities This is a foreign speaker at the beginning.
Completely agree, basic geography for elementary school kids…

@@user-yj4tc2kq7p You would be surprised how many grow-ups know nothing about the USA. Embarrassing! Some think that a lg. city is a state. Most think New Jersey & New York are in New England which they are not. Mid-Atlantic states. There's no excuse, if schools don't teach it, get outa map. But they won't, sadly.
You didn't highlight the full states for New York or Michigan.
yes a part of New York City And Michigan part by Wisconsin.
I did better than I thought I would. Lol. It's always the little East coast states that mess me up, so I missed a few of those.

I started off so strong for the first 1/3 of the quiz. But sadly, I dissapointed myself as it went along. I will definitely familiarize myself more with my maps. Thank you for this excellent quiz.

Got them all of course. Woo hoo. Well I am a geographer by education and one would think that anyone could do it but unfortunately most Americans are clueless about geography.

It depends on where you live, too. I'm in California, and I got 2 wrong. Vermont and New Hampshire I got mixed up.

I accidentally switched Kansas with Arkansas XD 47/40
(Not american and have never been to the U.S.) I know all the states by name (not that I would be able to mention them all in one attempt) and around half of them I could guess on this map. However, I can put all of the European & South American and most of Asian correctly on the map. Still have trouble with Central America (not Mexico of course lol) and perhaps around half of the African countries all though I haven't tried yet :)
Same as you in not American nor having been to the USA, but I got 47/50 (Michigan threw me, as there are two parts to it; couldn’t think of Arizona or Alabama either). I do play Wheretaken and Statele though, the latter being great for identifying the different states, so that helped a lot.

That was fun. Except zooming in on a random green rectangle. That's quite difficult for a Brit. Not sure I would do a lot better on counties of the United Kingdom if zoomed in and I had to guess based on shape.
In the US we look at states as their shapes fairly frequently. I’m from Arizona and for some reason we love our state shape. You can buy AZ shirts, mugs, stickers of the shape at many outlets, so it’s not so unfamiliar to us.
If it is a small rectangle you are looking at Connecticut. If it is a bigger one, you are looking at either Colorado or Wyoming.

I know Maryland, i have even been there, but i just could get the word put in the time, and the way it zooms in doesnt help

50 out of 50 to easy. Should show only the state by themselves. Would confuse Colorado and Wyoming, North and South Dakota and Vermont and New Hampshire.
To confuse Colorado with Wyoming is understandable but north Dakota with south Dakota ? 😵💫😵💫

For some reason I blanked out in Kansas, I mixed up Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois, but got Iowa right
I had 6 States wrong 😬 Nebraska, Indiana, Kansas, Wisconsin, Arizona & New Jersey! I am from the Netherlands, so I think it's still ok 😊 But I don't like that I messed up Indiana & Arizona 😉 Normaly I do know were they are lol 😂

Maybe Europe is a lot easier... if you live in Europe. There are a few small countries in Europe that many would find difficult, like Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Croatia, Montenegro, B & H, Albania, Belgium, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Kaliningrad, Kosovo, etc. But then again, there are probably more than a few Americans who couldn't find Spain, France, Poland, or Germany on a map either.

Kaliningrad is a part of Russia, very easy to find.
@@mydogskips2 I’m from England and, to be honest, I’d find it quite difficult to place the various “new” countries, ie, the ones that made up Yugoslavia and the former Soviet Union. The old school atlas I sometimes refer to still has Empire and Commonwealth countries in pink! Still, I get by!!

Zooming on the State that's highlighted was such a poor idea... There are only 2 ways to recognize a State: its shape and its location (on the map in general and its proximity with other States). Zooming makes the second way much more difficult.

Quizzes are a great way to freshen up on your skills and knowledge. However, if you're going prepare one for TH-cam, you should avoid mistakes.
Namely, you didn't highlight the entire states of New York & Michigan.

Wow, I had no idea that Alaska and Hawaii were so close to Texas. I could go see the Alamo, hop on a jet, and be sunbathing on Waikiki Beach in a few hours. Then I could hop on another jet and, in a few more hours, be watching the finish of the Iditarod in Nome!
And I thought Alaska was a pretty cold place too!

Nebraska and Delaware are annoying, but come on, Maryland, the cubist style state is easy to recognize.
