ABB Robotics - Engineering with LEGO can transform the future

  • It took eight months to build using only spare time, but a fully programmable, near life-size ABB robot made out of LEGO bricks is a spectacular thing to behold.
Yes, in this age of limited attention spans and virality-driven media perhaps it's cool enough that a near life-size industrial robot has been recreated in LEGO bricks, but there's so much more behind this story that it would be sad if it stopped there.
In particular, it's clear that there is a mismatch between the skills that currently exist in the workforce and the skills we need for the robotics and tech heavy world of the future. What better way to get kids and young adults interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) than through programmable LEGO?
Come along and join us as we explore this story.

I will always love Lego, and particularly Lego Mindstorms, because it shows that technology and science can be creative, and not just analytical anymore!!!

they could totally submit this to lego ideas (fan-made model designs that lego publishes themselves if they get popular enough). Would probably be the most expensive set on there though...must be like $2000 worth of pieces, motors, and EV3 blocks

Exactly, what is a company worth if they can't find a good staff. A tech spark is simplest and most effective way to get new generation of engineers. Young people usually get impressed by stupid celebs, worthless adverts and dumb people but real power of a country is tech manufacturing, simple as that
