    The '92 Williams F1 car was the most advanced F1 car OF ITS DAYS, but definitely NOT the most advanced F1 car OF ALL TIME. You could say that it was the most "electronically assisted" F1 car of all time, though even that claim might not be completely right, as its traction control and ABS systems were incredibly rudimentary compared to similar devices which were developed and employed by F1 teams between 2001 and 2007. Technology-wise, any V10 F1 car from the mid-2000s was a spaceship compared to the FW14B and would utterly destroy the older Williams at any track, despite their lack of active suspension systems.
    This is still true even if we bring into the mix modern F1 cars. Were one to compare the overall amount of technology involved in the development and production of present-day F1 cars, and the insane engineering these cars are infused with, to those of any F1 car from early and mid '90s, the latter would pale in comparison. Even though current-gen cars have no active suspension, TC or ABS, they are much, much faster, much more reliable, much more predictable and easier to drive.
    So, although the FW14B is often hailed as "the most advanced F1 car of all time", this is just a myth, if you ask me.
    A cool one, though, as I myself am a huge fan of that car indeed!

  • @Srga91
    @Srga91 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Nice video, but I doubt this is realistic of the cars' performances. Starting with the engine, the Ferrari Tipo 049 had 815 bhp (according to stats F1), while the Renault RS4 only produced 750 bhp and was also 37 kg heavier than the Ferrari (same source).
    Pre-'98 cars were also wider, which produced more drag, however the active suspension on the Williams might cover some of that deficit.
    Regarding the tyres, in '92 they still used qualifying tyres which lasted just for one or two flying laps and had a lot of grip. So, comparing the qualifying times is a bit problematic.
    It seems to me the physics are a little off here. The Ferrari should be faster in a straight line, while the Williams should be faster through many of the corners.

    Why is the Ferrari wearing rain tires ?

    • @THEWINDTUNNEL
      @THEWINDTUNNEL  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They aren't rain tyres, F1 cars used to have grooved tyres between the late 90s and 2008 to reduce the tyre's grip and lower the cornering speed after Senna's and Ratzemberger's accidents. They also putted a lot of chicanes at every fast corner of the championship, including Eau Rouge. Fortunately we got rid of both things
