I see why EAU Rouge got changed. There was very little room for error and the turn was really sharp at the end. Some of the newer F1 cars from the '80s and '90s either couldn't take it flat out, or lost control when attempting to do so. Now it is wider with more tarmac for racers to recover from going off track, and the turn is a little bit easier to take with more room for error.

Well they technically didn’t make it less tight but they removed the inner barrier making it easier to see the top of the corner and take it flat

After williams 1997 they start to kinda figure it out
The Lotus 79 is from 1978, not 1979
The 1982 Williams had around 500 hp, not 900 hp
The 1988 McLaren had around 685 hp, not 800 hp
the Lotus 79 was used in 79 as well.
@@lordracer7743 I know, but it was first used for the 1978 Season and won the championship that year. It is not really known for the 1979 season and it wasn't really competitive there

auto union grand prix cars were very difficult to drive, only a few drivers could drive the maximum out of these mid-eniged cars.

People like to say that the old cars were nice, but they were very dangerous. 14 drivers passed away in the 70s alone. That's ehy I'll say my favourite era is 2018 onwards.
Not to mention, the modern era of F1is the fastest.

I was surprised that the 97 slick tires failed, but the 2000 car on groves didn't. Even the narrow wing 10 cars could do it.

People assume the grooved tires sucked ass, but they were about as soft as F1 tires have ever been.

Ok, question, what was the actual first car to take eau rouge flat?
Probably something really slow that could manage the corner easily. In terms of F1, I remember reading that Keke Rosberg was the first to take it flat out (most likely in 1983, in the underpowered Williams with qualifying tyres).
1997 cars can take a flat out but the cornering are too fast

@@jensonisntfunny Sorry, the error in the video is the year it's labeled. It says 1982 - in 82 Williams was still using a cosworth v8 not the honda turbo v6. that did not come until 1983...which would make the horsepower figure more accurate. I also believe the car model used in the video is the 82 car with the longer sidepods i.e. ground effect era
yea if you pause at 3:39 you can clearly see its the 82 car which would have ben FW08 not 09 with a cosworth...anyway not that important lol but it seemed odd
