The unknown gymnast at 3:23 performing the toe-on Marinich is Allison Buckley. That was a state meet at my high school back in... 2006? Something like that.
i am so happy that you posted this...bars is my favorite and i'm so glad someone took the time to break down all the release moves in the new code of points...very well done and is now one of my favorites
@crazynightsinparis Imogen's is piked while Nastia's is layout. They do look the same when you first see them but if you watch carefully you'll see that Nastia keeps a straight body while she's on the air and pikes before she catches the bar while Imogen has a pike position during the whole move
Yes. I somehow misread it and didn't really think about it... ;-) It's still a crazy skill, sometimes you forget how hard it actually is when you just watch it, but when you read the describtion, it sounds so hard... So kudos to Elisabeth Seitz and all the others doing it!
Well Elena Shushunova did a a full twisting Tkachev facing away from the low bar. Back in the 1980's, it was common to do the Tkachev facing away from the low bar. But nowadays gymnasts face the low bar when performing those moves a lot of times to connect with a transition for bonus points.
it's simple: transition moves were considered release moves in that code, now it's only when you catch on the same bar.they fulfill different group requirements. read the code maybe, it's all there
@LMA629 Because a blind change and a Markelov by themselves aren't all too difficult, but when you try to connect the two elements it's a whole different story.
A Shaposhnikova doesn't count as one, a release move is an element with flight on the same bar. Elements with flight between the bars are considered transition moves
@garyj79 No, I know that. I just mean that is Wu's skill only able to be performed after a belly beat? They have to be able to swing hard enough for that skill if the Khorkina is possible.
Actually elements that are done or end in certain grips do not get any difficulty bonues but they do get named after the first gymnast to perform the element
@KVisMILTON For women, it would probably be the same difficulty of a G. Though doing it from a giant and then doing the twist in flight is harder. Did you see Danell Leyva's new high bar routine? He does the full twist from a giant.
Yes, I understand that but for a while Dominique Dawes did not have a release move in 1994, how could she make event finals in 1994 worlds without a the requirement of release move? Also I thought i heard a commentators talk about the number of release moves in routines and Shaposhnikovas appeared to be included in that count. Also, i thought Shannon Miller's hop full turns were being counted as release moves as well.
I'm kind of surprised that the Caslavska is rated so high. To me, the Shushunova looks like a half pirouette into a Khorkina. That skill performed by Wu Jiani, is it no longer used because it's hard to perform without belly-beating which is no longer allowed or is it not seen because of the low difficulty rating? I think a full-twist would look nice on that and make it a, say, E skill?
Speaking of possibilities, is it likely female gymnasts will eventually perform elements such as the Kovacs, Kolman, Cassina, etc on the uneven bars? Mo Huilan already set precedent by introducing the Gaylord I in international competition.
the full twisting tkatchev on HB (in a lay out position) is an F move and in MAG moves are classified between A and F so it's the most difficult value. (it's called a Liukin by the way) so yeah, i think you are wrong to discredit that move
@gymshiv: Yes, He Kexin did a Layout Jaeger directly into a Pak at the 2008 London Olympics. @ who ever doesn't understand the difference between a Liu and a Straddled Deltchev: They both start at a swing forward, but where the Liu does a back salto 1/2 to catch the HB, the Deltchev is a front flip with 1/2 twist.
It is crazy hard, but I wish that someone could do it without the leg separation. I suppose we'll ignore that just because it's so tough :) But I know that a number of French gymnasts have done it, so in my mind they absolutely own it!
back when it was the 2001-2004 COP there was something called a super E, i just learned this and was wondering if you could make a montage of super E moves. thanks!
I'm wondering ... if a gymnast performs a release move from eagle grip, shouldn't that be re-named and re-valued? It seems like other release moves that have been performed with variations have been treated as such.
Nyeste/Liu reminds me the strange kind of Deltchev That Semenova does, Doesn't it? Why Semenova's is a Deltchev, not a "Straddled Gienger", as it seems to be?
@makT890 A Ling is a giant in L-grip with regrasping with one arm to reverse grip and immediate full turn to L-grip (Healy). It means: Healy: reverse grip -> L-grip Ono: L-grip -> reverse grip Ling: L - grip -> L-grip
@cleicsioluek - im sure a few of the girls/women would be able to do it...provided they have the room to generate speed thru the swing into them....maybe a free hip into Kovac or Kolman? men dont have to tackle the lower bar when swinging of course.....
Wow, I didn't know Beth Tweddle had an eponymous skill! That is so cool! Didn't Nastia Liukin have a skill named after her on beam but it was removed from the Code of Points or something?
Looking trhough the CoP... Does anyone know who performed following release skill: "Swing fwd and salto bwd stretched with 1½ turn (540°) to hang on HB"? It must be HUGE and I can't think of anyone doing it, but on the other hand, why would it be in the CoP if nobody ever did it?
@brycehelmer I don't really understand your comparison between Tweddle and Nastia. Tweddle had late pirouettes and a higher D-score than Nastia. You have to remember that the judges see it from the side so tiny leg separations that we can see in slow motion or from the front may not be seen by the judges. If you really want to compare execution, watch Mustafina or Nabieva. Helicopter legs, bent knees, horrible form in general. Mustafina has no business doing 3.5s and Amanars.
What? There's a release move that's only B? I thought they were all D and above! Are they still rated that? I'd have said some of those are impossible if someone had told me about them, without the videos. Amazing!
@Irishpeacegirl it will never be in the code because it involves standing on the bar, which is illegal in womens gymnastics because it breaks the movement of swing movements. BTW it is not the hardest release i have ever seen elena mukhianas release was a korbut flip with a full twist
The reason we don't see the complicated releases (Gaylord, Def, etc) as often is because the true source of difficulty on UB, with this CoP, is pirouettes. Why risk coming off on a release when you can do a string of Healys, Onos and Stalders, which is more valuable?
Seriously this part of the COP drives me nuts. Some of these are totally underrated.
Wow! The music along with the beauty of the movements. Great video!

Most informative. Some of us can actually learn from this. Thank you.
I just realized how untrained my eyes are. Some of these moves looked the same to me...
Absolutely beautiful, definitely the best "named moves" montage out there. THANK YOU!!
@crazynightsinparis Imogen's is piked while Nastia's is layout. They do look the same when you first see them but if you watch carefully you'll see that Nastia keeps a straight body while she's on the air and pikes before she catches the bar while Imogen has a pike position during the whole move
I actually prefer the B/C skills at the beginning to a lot of the common release moves.
Yes. I somehow misread it and didn't really think about it... ;-) It's still a crazy skill, sometimes you forget how hard it actually is when you just watch it, but when you read the describtion, it sounds so hard... So kudos to Elisabeth Seitz and all the others doing it!

I wish people woulkd do more of these insted of just jaegers, geingers, and tkaltkevs. :((((
yes I believe it is considered a release move, it is under the 'Giant circles' portion of the COP. there is no 'release' section.
They are in the Code of Points (rated D) but I'm not sure if they count as release moves or not :)
A hop full is like a front full turn on bars only with a hop or release. Elise Ray does it twice I think.
it's simple: transition moves were considered release moves in that code, now it's only when you catch on the same bar.they fulfill different group requirements. read the code maybe, it's all there
Finally, Mo at World's by Yao Jinnan!
@LMA629 Because a blind change and a Markelov by themselves aren't all too difficult, but when you try to connect the two elements it's a whole different story.
i've never seen the gaylord 2, thanks for sharing that. And 5t seems like that gymnast followed immediately with a free hip circle. so cool!
A Shaposhnikova doesn't count as one, a release move is an element with flight on the same bar. Elements with flight between the bars are considered transition moves
@ethakimm
i think the Deltchev was created before the Gienger, so it had a different name
@garyj79 No, I know that. I just mean that is Wu's skill only able to be performed after a belly beat? They have to be able to swing hard enough for that skill if the Khorkina is possible.
yes they are, you get bonus as two flight moves in connection for like a hop full to reverse hecht. and they are rated as a D.
Actually elements that are done or end in certain grips do not get any difficulty bonues but they do get named after the first gymnast to perform the element
This music is just wonderful. so relaxing
@KVisMILTON For women, it would probably be the same difficulty of a G. Though doing it from a giant and then doing the twist in flight is harder. Did you see Danell Leyva's new high bar routine? He does the full twist from a giant.

I can't believe that the liu xuan move isn't a G skill. It looks harder than a two armed gienger by far.
2:51 to think that jiani wu's daughter is now a world champion. how time flies.
Speaking of possibilities, is it likely female gymnasts will eventually perform elements such as the Kovacs, Kolman, Cassina, etc on the uneven bars? Mo Huilan already set precedent by introducing the Gaylord I in international competition.
@TsubasaDreams But the judges get camera views from every angle, do they not?
the full twisting tkatchev on HB (in a lay out position) is an F move and in MAG moves are classified between A and F so it's the most difficult value. (it's called a Liukin by the way) so yeah, i think you are wrong to discredit that move
What is this music called? I really like it!
I was also wondering what happened to them because I don't remember seeing them in this very cool montage! ;)
Is a Ricna the same as a Piatti in Men's Artistic Gymnastics?
@gymshiv: Yes, He Kexin did a Layout Jaeger directly into a Pak at the 2008 London Olympics.
@ who ever doesn't understand the difference between a Liu and a Straddled Deltchev: They both start at a swing forward, but where the Liu does a back salto 1/2 to catch the HB, the Deltchev is a front flip with 1/2 twist.
no deltchev is basically an arabian
Where does Liu Xuan do the piked jaegar 1/2? Do you have a link to the video? It looks like she combines it.
why is anastia koval doing the pike toe-on tkatchev while it has the same difficulty as a straddle one?
do u know how much Tatiana Nabieva's toe on sole circle to hecht strait is worth? Has it been evaluated yet?
I cant believe they didn't use Dominique Dawes' hindorf from 1996. I believe it is by far the best one ever performed.
It is crazy hard, but I wish that someone could do it without the leg separation. I suppose we'll ignore that just because it's so tough :) But I know that a number of French gymnasts have done it, so in my mind they absolutely own it!
what does it mean when there is a - instend of the ranking of the release? does it mean that the move isn't in the code of points?
back when it was the 2001-2004 COP there was something called a super E, i just learned this and was wondering if you could make a montage of super E moves. thanks!
It is not in the code yet
I'm wondering ... if a gymnast performs a release move from eagle grip, shouldn't that be re-named and re-valued? It seems like other release moves that have been performed with variations have been treated as such.
@MostepanovaFan What music did you use here?
Its Adiemus by enya. Quite a lot of other people have done it as well though
@markedexclusive if u do a blind into the Markelov does it have the same difficulty value as doing it from a front giant?
if you have time ,could you please make a guide for the pourette/ stalder circle elemnts on UB, I find them very confusing
thank you very much
@LMA629 it was not in the CoP
nice vid!
what's the name of this song?
is a reverse hecht the same as a tkatchev if not whats the diffrence?
How come piked Ginger has the same difficulty as one arm/layout ginger??
In the 2008 Code it was an F, but its been downgraded in the 2009 Code
What is the difference between a ling and a healy/ ono?
Why does the piked deltchev not have a letter grade?
Li Ya did it in the 2000s I think. When was it done in 94-95ish?
have you seen the nabieva? it actually is laid-out! :D
It isn't in therre because no one has performed it at Worlds or Olympics yet. I hope someone does soon though, its one of my favourite skills too
Nyeste/Liu reminds me the strange kind of Deltchev That Semenova does, Doesn't it? Why Semenova's is a Deltchev, not a "Straddled Gienger", as it seems to be?
Liu Xuan did it in 95 at Visa Challenge. Kathy J said it was given a very low value by judges and I think that was the last time she used it
difficulty: -
whys some like that? is it the really hard moves that cant be graded?
May I know the title of the track used?
@makT890 A Ling is a giant in L-grip with regrasping with one arm to reverse grip and immediate full turn to L-grip (Healy). It means:
Healy: reverse grip -> L-grip
Ono: L-grip -> reverse grip
Ling: L - grip -> L-grip
@cleicsioluek - im sure a few of the girls/women would be able to do it...provided they have the room to generate speed thru the swing into them....maybe a free hip into Kovac or Kolman? men dont have to tackle the lower bar when swinging of course.....
does it go from A to G, G being the highest?
Wow, I didn't know Beth Tweddle had an eponymous skill! That is so cool! Didn't Nastia Liukin have a skill named after her on beam but it was removed from the Code of Points or something?
She still does. It's called the Liukin - a front walkover land on one foot to arabesque.
what's the name of the music?
Looking trhough the CoP... Does anyone know who performed following release skill: "Swing fwd and salto bwd stretched with 1½ turn (540°) to hang on HB"? It must be HUGE and I can't think of anyone doing it, but on the other hand, why would it be in the CoP if nobody ever did it?
That's just the Hristakieva. That appears in this video somewhere
That’s just a def... lots of gymnasts have done it
wait so are jaegers and tkachevs like the opposite things?
what's the name of this music
In 2008 the piked TKachev was a D?
whats the release move he kexin does?
Aren't Rays now D's not E's?
This was really helpful. Thanks for posting it!
Adiemus. I can't remember the singer. The song is also on the 2004 Athens Olympics soundtrack.
Also, isn't a Shaposhnikova technically considered a release move? Im trying to figure out if they forgot to include anything
a transition
One arm gienger should be at least ace
What? There's a release move that's only B? I thought they were all D and above! Are they still rated that?
I'd have said some of those are impossible if someone had told me about them, without the videos. Amazing!
do yo know the nabieva worth? is layaout tkachev.
yes and as of this year they have introduced some h skills
all F's and G's ecxept the shushunova were done from the 90's onwards, after they seperated the bars more
what song is this?
What is the song's name?
Why in the pikel deltchev (1:14) there isn't the difficulty?
not in the code
whats a hop full worth?
what's a hop full?
Please respond back
Isn't a Shushunova rated an E, not a G?
Check out Cha Yong Hwa and Elena Dolgopolova. Super clean Def's so it is possible for it not to look sloppy.
It was downgraded to an E in the 2009 code of points
I can't really understand the difference between the move performed by Imogen and Nastia. It looks the exact same. :\
@Irishpeacegirl it will never be in the code because it involves standing on the bar, which is illegal in womens gymnastics because it breaks the movement of swing movements. BTW it is not the hardest release i have ever seen elena mukhianas release was a korbut flip with a full twist

The song is called "Adiemus"
Its Adiemus by Enya
@missmouse35 Yes, it's a G skill, the Nabieva. =D
There's He Kexin and Elisabeth Seitz doing some pretty cool releases
Why isn't the Bhardwaj in the code? Then I realized, all of the moves are done on the high bar... XD
