    Thats awsome man. i had a 4 foot green iguana when i was 15. however i was a child and didnt know much about handling them. so hes was quite scared of humans. had to get rid of him tho he got much to big for the cage i had and no room to let him have his own room. but im 22 now. looking into getting a lizard and all i read is how ridiculously hard green iguanas are to tame and keep them calm. but as i see its more so give the reptile the space and respect that it needs and show youre not there to hurt them and they will warm up to you over time. keep reading that i should get a gecko or somthing but i want a second chance at keeping a green iguana again. this time he will have a room of his own around his 2 year old birthday XD. great videos man your videos are going to make me get an iguana again so thank you.

      With my old buddy, Draco, I noticed that he shook his head if someone was annoying him or getting into his space. Draco appreciated ( I could even go as far as saying he loved) some people and would never shake his head at them. His 'clan' as I called his favorite humans were - Me (of course, I fed him and lived with him 24 hrs a day) my young son, which was odd to me, I'll explain in a minute. My father, also odd. Draco was a rescue/adoption. He was dumped at my door in a pillow case. People know I love animals so that part isn't very strange. What was odd about Draco and my son - my son was only a few months old but Draco gravitated to him. My son would be in his bouncy chair and Draco would lay, curled, around the bottom - always. Draco would not allow any other animals near the baby, it was immediate war if the ferret, Jade, also a rescue, went near the baby. I could not allow the ferret out when Draco was around because I was worried that he (Jade) would get wrecked. My father - was terrified of Draco but Draco followed him all through the house when he came over. I think Draco liked my Dads voice, my Dad would always say "Oh God, NO NO NO, go away now, no don't climb my leg." It was funny watching them. But if a new person came in Draco would stand up, deep inhale, hiss, and head shake. He mostly did this when the person came near him or near the baby. Draco was one of my best buds, I will miss him forever but I will never forget all of the things he taught me, or the funny memories he gave me.

    • @v1pero734
      @v1pero734 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm watching him and his shake doesn't seem to mean what Dracos meant. I guess they all design their own language to suit their relationships within their life structure but of this I'm not sure. I can tell that he really appreciates you though, he didn't seem too thrilled when you stepped away from him. Maybe his shake is saying "Dude! Don't leave me like that, not good."

      Just to add to this- if a reptile carries salmonella (about 80% do) you're unlikely to get it by handling or even kissing the animal. Salmonella is carried in the gut of the reptile, so its unlikely you'll contract it unless you somehow ingest their feces. But agreed, I kiss my reptiles all the time, I've yet to get sick, and even if I did its worth it XD

    The opening of the mouth and shaking his head is probably a form of endearment, or to let you know he is happy. red open mouth is a sign for lizards and they use it in many ways, and if he uses his weapon mouth in a playful way he's trying to show you that he is not, and probably does not want to use it for harm, and that the option for danger is off the table. It's kind of like a dog or child, when you try to give them something and show them that it's fun and not dangerous, you kind of shake it around and play with it in a goofy way to show that the situation is harmless. Him closing his eyes is not defence mode. Many animals squint their eyes when they are in acceptance, it's not really a yes or a no, but I accept. He likes your petting. It's probably one of the best things he can think of because it probably feels really good and he can't get it anywhere else, and has a loving relationship with you.

But I've had him for I believe 10 year's know got him as a late birthday gift as a young adult, but even with all his training he still has his grumpy month's where I don't bother him but all in all they're great pet lizard.

    My family had a big iguana like this while I was growing up. They told me to be cautious around him but I never felt scared or threatened. He had an open cage and would hang out around the house and outside. He was like our family dog, would climb up on the couch, and always seemed to want attention and affection. He was very affectionate and it completely shaped my appreciation for reptiles. I hear a lot of people say they aren't capable of forming bonds or being affectionate; but that's far from the truth. My iguana had a very strong personality and was protective of myself and my mom.
    Buddy really reminds me of my old family Iguana. I really miss him ; - ;

    2 types of iguana head bobbing:
    The kind Buddy does with his body low and relaxed, with eyes looking around, is done in greeting, like "I'm cool, you too!"
    The other kind of head bob, with dewlap more rigid, body held off the ground and inflated, with eyes fixed in an angry glare on the "offender" (also they will hold their body sideways and wag their tail), that head bob is a warning of impending aggresion.

      Lajos Winkler Tell me, just how evolved does an animal need to be before it can form emotional attachments. I'd have a strong reason to believe that you don't have the answer to that. In saying that, a sponge or a jelly fish aren't gonna have an easy time with emotions because they simply don't have a brain and thus no emotional capability.
