      @@mikealnutt360My gues is that X axis performance never was a big issue, Y axis was always the bottleneck. Also maybe it is easier for them in "mass"-production to scale.
      One definite advantage is you got more belt for the Y axis and thus less belt stretch. The belt cross-section is essentially doubled, while normal AWD just uses the same belt.

    Bunch of neat things to see 🤔 Kinda already a sucker for that CNCed BTT Voron Kit 😑 Kinda lost me on the Beacon Contact though... Is it supposed to act as some kind of Load Sensor? 🤨

    • @flamepygmy
      @flamepygmy หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Beacon is an eddy current based extremely fast bed mesh scanner. You can do something line 11x11 bed mesh in less than a minute, which would normally take ages on a regular probe. The problem is that it only works with metallic surfaces like spring steel sheets etc. It's fine with magnetic sheet under the build surface, but not if you have few big magnets. Also, you need to calibrate it (though you can store your calibration settings) for each build plate and nozzle combination. The calibration involves using old paper-under-nozzle test and manually moving the nozzle up/down when calibrating, which is time consuming.
      What beacon contact is that they've figured out a way to do the nozzle contact scanning with purely some software changes (no idea how they do it, but obviously has to be something they can measure with Beacon itself). What that allows is then to use Beacon as a traditional nozzle contact scanner, but with a VERY light touch on the bed. So you can use it on say if your build surface is glass or if you have big magnets under the build plate. Also, it allows for full automation of the calibration of bed and. nozzle combination since it can now accurately know when the nozzle is in contact with the bed. You could even calibrate at the start of the print and then do a super fast mesh with the regular scanning mode.
      I have a Beacon myself and absolutely love it and with this software update (no hardware changes needed of any kind) it's going to be so much better if you swap build surfaces or nozzles.

      @@flamepygmy you mean 100x100 in less than a minute 😅

    • @Leclaron
      @Leclaron หลายเดือนก่อน

      My understanding is that the probe is using eddy currents to sense the nozzle and the bed, instead of just the bed like it was before. The way that it can detect contact is due to the inductance of the “sensed” components changing as the nozzle approaches/touches the bed.
